Wildfire breaks out near Scottish sports centre
A WILDFIRE has broken out near a sports centre in Edinburgh.
The blaze was spotted on the hill near Midlothian Snowsports Centre Hillend on Biggar Road in the Capital.

The gorse fire has forced bosses at the site to delay their opening.
A spokesperson for the centre said: “Due to our Fire Service colleagues tackling a gorse fire very close to the Coaster, there will be a delay in opening today.
“We will keep you updated as we aim to try and open later today.
“Apologies for any inconvenience.”

King Charles in first royal engagement since hospital stint for cancer treatment side effects
THE King attended his first public engagement since his short hospital stay following cancer treatment side effects.
Charles presided over an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle where he recognised leading figures and community stalwarts for their efforts.

The King, 76, made TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh a CBE for services to horticulture and charity.
Meanwhile reigning world heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson was made an MBE for services to athletics.
Charles was pictured smiling and waving as he left his Clarence House home in central London on Friday.
He spent the night there with the Queen following the “minor bump” in his cancer journey.
The King cancelled a busy away-day in Birmingham on Friday to prioritise his recovery.
He experienced temporary side effects following treatment at the London Clinic on Thursday morning, which required a short period of hospital observation that day.
Over the coming days, Charles will be carrying out a mix of public engagements, state duties and private meetings.
A small number of appointments have been rescheduled to ensure an appropriate balance ahead of a busy state visit the King and Queen will make to Italy next week.
On Wednesday, the King will fulfil official duties and meetings at Buckingham Palace and hold his weekly audience with the Prime Minister.
He will attend a public engagement in Windsor the following day and celebrate the 80th anniversary of the humanitarian air operator Mission Aviation Fellowship during an event at RAF Northolt in west London.
Friday will be spent making final preparations for the state visit to the Republic of Italy.
The separate state visit to the Holy See, the government of the Roman Catholic Church located in the Vatican, has been postponed as the Pope is recovering from a bout of pneumonia.
The Sun reported that the King had pulled out of two private overseas visits.
These included his annual break to Romania where he owns a property and a short trip to a luxury spa resort in Africa earlier this month.

Police reveal worrying secret meaning behind the ‘eight ball’ emoji that all parents must look out for
Sky customers warned of more than a dozen TV channel changes TODAY with several sad closures in bumper overhaul
ALL Sky customers will notice a number of big changes to their TV planner from today, whether you’re a satellite viewer or streaming.
The latest wave sees sports channels shift position and also some closures.

Sky Q, Sky+HD and Sky+ boxes have already seen big changes on Monday, with a popular Sky Sports channel disappearing.
And Tuesday sees more channels axed from satellite.
Fortunately, viewers won’t have to miss out on their favourite shows but the quality of the channels will be changing for the worse.
UKTV is getting rid of two HD channels on satellite and opting for SD (standard definition) broadcasts instead.
Customers have slammed the move, saying it seems “a backward step to keep SD and close HD channels on satellite”.
The two HD channels going today are U&W HD and U&Yesterday HD.
Content on-demand will still be available in HD.
Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices are unaffected by the changes.
But they do face a huge number of channel moves starting today instead.
Some of UKTV’s other channels are shuffling around, as well as sports.
See the full list below, including countries as some vary from nation to nation:
- U&Alibi HD moves from 130 to 120 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&Gold HD moves from 131 to 121 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&Dave HD moves from 132 to 130 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&W HD moves from 133 to 131 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&Drama moves from 134 to 132 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&Yesterday HD moves from 161 to 133 (England, NI and Wales only)
- U&Eden moves from 162 to 134 (England, NI and Wales only)
- GINX TV HD moves from 419 to 417 (all of the UK)
- MUTV HD moves from 420 to 418 (all of the UK)
- LFCTV HD moves from 421 to 419 (all of the UK)
- Premier Sports 1 HD moves from 419 to 417 (ROI only)
- Premier Sports 2 HD moves from 420 to 418 (ROI only)
- GINX TV HD moves from 421 to 419 (ROI only)
- MUTV HD moves from 422 to 420 (ROI only)
- LFCTV HD moves from 423 to 421 (ROI only)
Later this week, there are a few more changes in sight.
On Wednesday, satellite customers lose another channel – and once again it’s in favour of the SD broadcast.
Sky History 2 HD will disappear from slot 163 in the UK and 168 in ROI / NI, and become Sky History 2 SD.
Is the end of satellite in sight?

Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
Satellite TV is expensive business.
Sky doesn’t own the satellites above Earth that beam channels down to us – they have pay a satellite operator for that.
But streaming is seen as the future, not only for Sky but everyone in the TV business.
With Sky Glass and Sky Stream, Sky doesn’t have to pay a hefty fee to a satellite operator.
No more satellite dishes are needed, which means far fewer engineers coming out to houses are required too.
Only recently did Sky and its satellite operator SES announce a new agreement that takes satellite TV up until 2029 – after that, we will have to see.
There are still millions of customers who enjoy watching TV with a satellite box.
Sky says 90 per cent of new customers opt for Sky Glass or Sky Stream.
Surge of cash for new Grand National favourite as punters place faith in awesome grey horse who’s a ‘strong stayer’
A SURGE of cash for Vanillier has seen the awesome grey become one of THREE co-Grand National favourites.
Gold Cup-winning trainer Gavin Cromwell’s ‘strong stayer’ is being backed to go one better than the runner-up finish he achieved two years ago.

And he is now 8-1 with Star Sports and PricedUp Bet to land the big one – the same price as fellow favourites Iroko and stablemate Stumptown.
Vanillier was last seen finishing third behind Stumptown at Cheltenham’s Cross Country race.
But he could have got a lot closer had he not almost taken the wrong course.
Prior to that, ten-year-old Vanillier bolted up by 18 lengths in a 3m1f Cross Country race at Punchestown in Ireland.
First-time blinkers sparked the old boy back into life and he hasn’t looked back since.
Vanillier was second in the 2023 Grand National to Corach Rambler, having been sent off 20-1 under jockey Sean Flanagan.
He raced off a mark of 147 that year carrying 10st6lbs – the same weight he will have this year.
Other bookies aren’t quite so keen to have him on side, although his odds have dropped markedly across the board.
Vanillier could be backed at 14s just two days ago but you won’t get better than 12-1 now, with most as short as 10s.
Speaking of his chances recently, Cromwell said in his William Hill blog: “We’ll have the blinkers on Stumptown, and they seemed to do the trick with Vanillier as well.
“He also ran well at Cheltenham, and he seems in good form.
“He’s off the same mark as he was when finishing second here a couple of years ago, which certainly gives us hope that he could run well.
“The short gap between their runs at Cheltenham and the National is always going to be a concern because you’re in unknown territory, really, and you’re taking a bit of a chance.”
There are a lot of things to like about Vanillier.
He can handle the hurly-burly of the 34-runner field, stays the trip and jumps well in the main.
With the changing complexion of the race, though, you could argue he might not have quite enough class to see off some of his potentially even better handicapped rivals.
One of those is Iroko, the big British hope trained by Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.
Ratings experts Timeform say he is the best handicapped horse in the race, given he is set to carry 10st11lbs.
Jumps boffin Phil Turner said: “I’m still very keen on both Iroko and Perceval Legallois.
“Bar a luckless early fall at Ascot, Iroko has had pretty much the perfect prep as his mark hasn’t gone up and he has shaped as if retaining all of his ability.
“He looks to possess the right blend of speed and stamina which usually plays well around Aintree, whilst his second place to Inothewayurthinkin at the meeting last year clearly reads even better now.”

My Mum, Your Dad couple in shock SPLIT after falling for each other on Davina McCall’s dating show
A COUPLE who found love on My Mum, Your Dad have suddenly split up.
Vicky Davies and David McLeod found love in each other on Davina McCall’s dating show.

Falling in love with one another on the hit ITV series, the couple left fans swooning over their blossoming romance.
Fans were then devastated when the pair broke up shortly afterwards, and then they were filled with joy again when they rekindled their romance after the show aired.
Deciding to rekindle their relationship last September, things didn’t last long for the pair now it has been reported that they have split.
“They tried to make a real go of it but it wasn’t to be,” a friend of the couple revealed to MailOnline today.
“Both Vicky and David have busy lives and commitments such as family and work, coupled with the distance it was hard to see each other.
“They appreciate the impact they made on each other’s lives and will always share a special bond.”
Mother-of-three Vicky appeared on the dating show alongside daughter Angharad as she attempted to find love.
David appeared on the show with his daughter Tiana as he tried to find love.
FANS PREDICTED SPLIT
Vicky, 50, works as an assistant principal in South Wales.
Meanwhile, property developer David, 53, is from Bristol, which is 40 miles away.
Although fans adored the pairing when the series aired, many didn’t think they’d go the distance.
“In the words my old man used to say ‘I’ll give them a week’ regarding Vicky and David,” said one person on X at the time.
Another added: “David making it up as he goes along, like being in an interview you try to wing.”
A third remarked: “I’m just not feeling the love from David.. lovely man but a tad emotionally stunted.. sorry guys!”
My Mum, Your Dad series two cast

Christian: “I think the biggest thing they’ll learn is that I put on a shield of jovial and lightheartedness but underneath I’m sensitive. I don’t let people see that usually.”
David: “I’m looking for a strong, independent woman. I need somebody whereby we feed off of each other, who matches the qualities that I’ve got!”
Maria: “There’s no time pressure now and you get to that age where you think why would I want to put up with somebody that gets on my nerves? I don’t have to!”
Andy: “Ideally, I’m looking for someone who will engage with me mentally, appeals to me physically and is there for me emotionally!”
Clare: “My love language is physical touch so someone that’s cuddly and tactile that makes me laugh and who’s a warm and kind person.”
Vicky: “I’ve been having no luck in trying to find someone myself. If there’s a room of people, I always tend to go for the one person I shouldn’t!”
Jenny: “I have exhausted everything, if I couldn’t have got onto My Mum, Your Dad, there was literally nothing left.”
Danny: “I’m hoping to meet someone that likes me. I don’t have to tick boxes. I’m just looking for someone who likes me back.”
And someone else chimed in: “I don’t think David is ready for a relationship. He seems emotionally contained, he’s not relaxed, easygoing.”
SHELVED SHOW
The hit show, headed up by Davina, was shelved earlier this year due to a nationwide shortage of hot middle-aged men.
A new series of My Mum, Your Dad was set to start filming this spring, but the show was shelved until at least next year so they can hunt down the hunkiest middle-aged men.
A TV insider told The Sun in January: “Strangely there were lots of stunning women in the 45 to 65 bracket who wanted to take part, but a sad dearth of men who fitted the bill.
“This was a problem they encountered in 2024 when they tried to make the second series and just about managed to get enough candidates together.
“But when it came to the third outing they realised it was just going to be too difficult, and decided taking a break might be the best option.”
