New blow as CAB raid thug James ‘Mago’ Gately slapped with drug-driving road ban just day after Dublin house seized
HUTCH gangster James ‘Mago’ Gately has driven into more trouble this week.
Just a day after the Criminal Assets Bureau seized his home in Coolock, north Dublin, Gately was hit with a year’s driving ban.

Gately, 38, received the ban after he pleaded guilty to drug driving at Letterkenny District Court.
He was also fined €200 after he was caught using cannabis when he was driving his car at 2.21pm on May, 7, 2024.
Gately was caught driving under the influence of drugs when he was stopped at a checkpoint outside Killygordon village.
When stopped, gardai believed he had been “under the influence of an intoxicant” due to his “lethargic behaviour”.
Gardai also believed that his “eyes were glazed”.
When tested, results confirmed he had been using cannabis.
At the time of his arrest, he had given his address as Glin Drive in Coolock.
But this was changed today to an address in Portland Row after his home was seized on Tuesday.
One source said: “Gately has previous motoring offences and he won’t like being off the road for a year.
“He had people drive him around in the past when he was on the run from the Hutch gang.
“Gately is like many of his associates who had no concern for other users when he decided to drive under the influence of cannabis.”
Although Gately was previously in hiding after two attempts by the Kinahan cartel to kill him in 2017, he has continued to live in Dublin in recent years.
He returned to the capital after the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau’s successful operations against the cartel hit teams.
NEW HOME NEEDED
But he now has to find a new family home after his property was seized.
Before his property was seized, he removed the staircase and front gates.
It was seized after the High Court ruled it was “overwhelmingly” the proceeds of crime.
He also lost a 132 VW Golf and a €4,400 Rolex.
His decision to remove the staircase and front gate could land him in further trouble.
‘EXOTIC LIFESTYLE’
As part of the ruling against Gately and his wife Charlene Lam, CAB established they had lived an “exotic lifestyle”.
CAB also established he was a leading member of the Hutch Organised Crime Group.
They also alleged he was linked to the murders of Aiden Byrne and Eamon ‘The Don’ Dunne in 2010 along with the killing of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016.
Gately was never convicted of any of these offences.
