Huge Kasper Schmeichel injury update as Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reveals timescale for keeper’s return

KASPER SCHMEICHEL is fighting to save his season after Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he’s facing up to SIX WEEKS out with his shoulder injury.

But the Danish No1 has told Rodgers he’s confident he’ll return in time for a possible Scottish Cup final date on May 24.

Veteran Schmeichel was crocked while playing for Denmark in their Nations League play-off defeat to Portugal and missed Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Hearts, with deputy Viljami Sinisalo coming in for his Premiership debut.

Now the Finland international is looking like keeping the jersey for at least the next seven games.

That will include the two league games against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock before the split plus up to four of the five after it and also the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone on April 20.

Rodgers told Celtic TV: “We’ve had some news, and we’ll see over the course of the next five to six weeks, is what was mentioned.

“But this is just something that day by day we have a look at it.

“But the timeline that was given to us was around about that.

“But Kasp tends to think it might not be as long as that.

“Certainly in the immediate future he won’t be available.”

Asked if he was optimistic of seeing the 38-year-old before the end of the season, Rodgers said: “Yeh, I believe so.

“But, like I say, we’ll just have to keep an eye on it.”
