Ex-Rangers star who was sidelined for almost two years sees injury curse strike again as he’s ruled out for the season
A FORMER Ibrox star who was plagued with injury woes has once again been handed bad news.
The ex-Rangers hero has struggled to lock down regular football overseas following his departure from the Gers after several years on their books.

The towering defender Filip Helander is expected to miss the remainder of this season for Greek side Omonia Nicosia.
The team currently home to former Manchester City and Inter Milan striker Stefan Jovetic, and once managed by Celtic legend Neil Lennon, will be without the Swedish international who has scored two goals in around 20 appearances since joining in the summer.
The news coming out of Greece‘s Kerkida is that the centre-back suffered a metatarsal fracture against Pafos this weekend and will be side-lined for approximately three months, as confirmed by an MRI.
He’s contracted with his current club until next year, having joined after spending one season with Danish side Odense Boldklub where he spent a short spell as captain.
Before that, he was a stalwart of the Rangers backline for four years… when he wasn’t on the treatment table.
The 31-year-old will likely be most fondly remembered in one half of Glasgow for the time he scored the only goal in an Old Firm win.
He also netted an equaliser in a European tie against Slavia Prague, but managers Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale did not have the Swede at their disposal as much as they might have liked.
He managed 18 appearances and played 90 minutes in all of them in his first season at Ibrox – 2019/20 – but a foot injury saw him out of the picture from the turn of the year to the until the next campaign.
The following year had him dropping in and out a little, but 31 club appearances and a Sweden call-up for Euro 2020 (played in 2021) was a big improvement.
But the next season, just one game after his Celtic heroics, knee surgery ruled Helander out for five months.
He came back for a handful of cameos, before a foot injury confirmed he would miss the entirety of the following season before it even started, and he was released at the end of it.
