Inside Sydney Sweeney’s ‘new romance’ with Hollywood hunk as she ditches engagement ring & makes shock public appearance
SYDNEY SWEENEY’S own nuptials are said to be off, but it seems an invite to a pal’s wedding has reunited her with rumoured “old flame” Glen Powell.
The actors, who have always denied being more than friends, were spotted together in Dallas, Texas, as news emerged of Sydney’s broken engagement to fiance Jonathan Davino, 41.

Yet while her star power rockets, the couple have reportedly called off their planned May wedding amid “major issues” in their seven-year relationship.
Exactly what these “issues” may be is vague, but one thing seems clear — and that is Sydney’s hotly-contested “friendship” with Anyone But You co-star Glen, 36.
The pair “leaned into” rumours of an affair during promotion for the movie in 2023.
And the fact they were seen spending time together in Dallas, Texas, this week has fuelled talk that the speculation and scrutiny surrounding their electric chemistry two years ago were not in vain.
The unofficial party line is that they were both in Glen’s home state over the weekend to attend his sister Leslie’s wedding.
Showbiz dynamos
Sydney is reportedly close to the whole Powell family, and any interactions she had with Glen on the day, and at the rehearsal dinner the night before, were all apparently platonic and scandal-free.
But haven’t we heard this before?
Let’s not forget Sydney and Glen have denied any relationship since flirting up a storm for Anyone But You.
They acknowledged their spark at the time — using it to plug the film, which ultimately led to massive box office success.
But they had two pillars to hide behind — firstly, Glen said of their chemistry: “Sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — it worked wonderfully”.
And secondly, they both had significant others while filming.
Sydney was loved up with Jonathan, who had proposed to her with a diamond ring a year earlier, and Glen was dating French-Brazilian model Gigi Paris.
Curiously, he and Gigi, 32, decided to end their three-year relationship as production finished on Anyone But You.
Again, the party line was drama-free — sources said the long distance had torn them apart. But why then?
As for Sydney, it’s clear her life and career has changed since she met Jonathan, potentially derailing her path down the aisle.
In 2018, when they first went public at Hulu’s 2018 Emmy party, Sydney was relatively unknown.
Meanwhile, her new boyfriend was already said to be a successful businessman (he seems to have a number of career interests, including film production).
The balance of success was, however, tilted in his favour.
That changed a year later when Sydney appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and also debuted as Cassie Howard on Euphoria.
Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry…and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit
Glen Powell
The latter earned her an Emmy nomination, and studio executives soon came calling, with starring roles in series one of The White Lotus, horror film Nocturne and the music video for The Rolling Stones’ hit single Angry, plus a 2023 spot in Forbes’ 30 Under 30.
By the time she made it to the set of rom-com Anyone But You, Sydney was hot property in Hollywood — only matched in superstar potential by her on-screen love interest, Glen.
He had enjoyed a similar trajectory, garnering some small screen success before hitting it big in the long-awaited 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Together, they were showbiz dynamos, primed to create movie magic and drawing in over $200million (£155million) at the box office, despite mixed reviews for the film.
Much of that success was down to the “are they, aren’t they?” fanfare surrounding their rumoured relationship.
In the aftermath, Sydney tried to shush the speculation by publicly swooning over Jonathan.
In an interview with Glamour magazine at the end of 2023, she said: “Everyone is always so curious about who I’m with and what’s that like . . . I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age.”
She said in another chat: “It’s amazing having someone who cheers you on and fully supports what you do.”
The following March, the actress made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut, where she addressed the rumours surrounding her and Glen.
“That’s obviously not true,” she said, in reference to their rumoured on-set affair.
“Me and my fiancé produced the movie together, he was there the entire shoot.
“I just want to let everyone know that he’s the man of my dreams, and we’re still together, and stronger than ever.”
But let’s not forget the power balance in relationships is as delicate and fragile as Hollywood egos.
One day, your partner could be your equal; the next, they could be launched into the stratosphere, leaving you trailing behind.
Fitting in the picture
In some ways, it helps if one half of the couple isn’t in the industry.
But the downside to that is a stranger to celebrity just can’t relate to life inside the showbiz bubble.
Even if they can stomach their beau hooking up with Hollywood hotties on screen, it must be tough to be eclipsed in fame and fortune.
Either way, it’s clear the 21-year-old jobbing actress Sydney of years gone by is not the same Sydney we see now.
So, where does Jonathan fit into the picture?
Sydney and Jonathan’s wedding plans have been in a holding pattern for a while now and a lot of that has come down to Sydney’s schedule
LA source
Judging by the actress’s Instagram offerings, he doesn’t. In recent months, she has shared solo photos from trips around the world, including Berlin and Paris, and days and nights out in LA.
Last week, she posted photos of a girls’ trip to Tanzania, Africa.
In fact, Sydney was last spotted with Jonathan in January, and he hasn’t featured in any of her pictures since — while her recent snaps all show her without her engagement ring.
It comes as insiders say that, despite sharing two homes in LA, Sydney has been staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel since mid- February.
A source close to the star’s LA-based friendship group had confirmed the engagement was over, but argued there was still hope for the relationship, insisting it would be “absurd” to call the whole thing off so suddenly.
They added: “Their wedding plans have been in a holding pattern for a while. A lot of that has come down to Sydney’s schedule.”
So, where does this leave Sydney and Glen? At the moment, they are sticking to the story that they are very good friends, while doing a half-hearted job to shut down the rumours.
Glen recently “liked” a sultry social media beach snap of Sydney without her engagement ring, knowing the world is watching.
They may insist Anyone But You, but their actions tell a different story.
