Amanda MacFarlane said her relationship with Waite began in May 2021

The trial previously heard how Gillian Sturgeon, 50, drove to Steven Waite’s home after she found out he was seeing someone else.

Mr Waite, 53, told the court he had dumped Ms Sturgeon weeks before August 7, 2021, when she went to his house to confront him for “cheating”.

She said Mr Waite had violently grabbed her and threw her across his living room then pushed her down the stairs.

However Mr Waite said: “I didn’t invite her in. I must have asked her 10 times to leave and she refused.”

Before admitting he had taken her wrists to try and physically eject her from his home which he said he thought was “reasonable in the circumstances.”

Still refusing to leave, Sturgeon then followed him upstairs and another argument ensued resulting in Ms Sturgeon spitting in his face.

She told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court: “Yes, I spat in his face. I’m not proud of it, but it was just instinctual. My daughter was there and I was scared.”

Procurator Fiscal depute Fraser Alexander asked: “How did he respond?”

“He called me a dirty b****,” Ms Surgeon said.

But the jury rejected Ms Sturgeon’s claims after she admitted she herself had been arrested and charged for spitting during the incident in August 2021.

Waite’s defence solicitor Donna Maitland described Ms Sturgeon as “A woman scorned” whose “sketchy memory” made her non credible.

Ms Sturgeon had also claimed Waite had sent her an email in 2023, two years after he had dumped her, threatening her and calling her names.

However Waite denied having her email address and accused Ms Sturgeon of sending the email to herself from his email account which was still logged in to an iPad she had lent him.

Mr Waite, was also cleared of assaulting another former partner, Amanda MacFarlane at various incidents during their relationship, which overlapped Ms Sturgeon’s, between May 2021 and May 2022.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard how the couple had a “toxic” relationship which was plagued by constant arguments about Ms MacFarlane’s job as a webcam girl.

Ms MacFarlane told the court Waite was happy for her to do the work because it paid well, but he suffered bouts of jealousy.

However the accused said he “couldn’t stop her doing it” but found it difficult when logged into the site under a false name and “found out she was arranging to meet men. It went from webcam to escorting and I found that difficult”.

She claimed she woke up one night to him strangling her.

She said: “I had gone to sleep in my daughter’s bed and he was in ours. I finally dozed off to sleep and the next thing I remember was waking up and realising I couldn’t breathe.

Ms MacFarlane told the court Waite had also slashed her across the stomach whilst “messing about with a kitchen knife”, had thrown a candle, car key and a box of shoes at her in various fits of rage.

She recalled one time he became furious while she was in a bath and held her head under the water and had also scalded her with a boiling kettle.

However Mr Waite gave evidence in his own defence telling the jury: “it simply didn’t happen.”

He was found not guilty of both charges.

‘Won’t be bullied into silence’ – League of Ireland club appeal match forfeit as they point finger of blame at FAI

KERRY have announced they are appealing against their forfeiting of their opening day win over Finn Harps – claiming it was a FAI error rather than their own.

The First Division outfit beat Harps 2-0 at Mounthawk Park on February 14 to kick-off the season with Australian Stevan Stanic-Floody coming on for the final two minutes.

But the FAI subsequently told Kerry that that Australian was ineligible to play, with the Independent Disciplinary Committee ruling this week that the game goes down as a loss.

Now Kerry have outlined why they are appealing, as Stanic-Floody only featured because the FAI’s own registration system had deemed him eligible.

A statement read: “The status of the player in question on the FAI Comet system was confirmed on February 5th, and was set to ‘Active’ on February 11th, by an FAI employee…

“Making our player eligible to play in the FAI’s system, is an action that can only be performed by an FAI employee.

“Kerry FC was invited to a Zoom call on March 10th, by an FAI Disciplinary Committee.

“On March 10th, members of Kerry FC attended the call and remained present on the call for up to an hour, waiting for the Disciplinary Committee.

“The Disciplinary Committee never showed. Kerry FC was notified by email from the FAI that the club did not attend the meeting with the Disciplinary Committee and was given options to annul or replay the match.

“We requested a meeting with the Disciplinary Committee to plead our case.

“On March 27th, a meeting took place where the Disciplinary Committee dismissed all the evidence we brought to the meeting.

“In summary, the FAI now claims that an error has occurred, but insists that the fault is not theirs, and that Kerry FC is to blame.

“They have issued our club a €1,000 fine and have ruled that our opening win against Finn Harps be forfeited. We do not believe that Finn Harps are disputing the result of the match.

“Rather than admitting to a system error and correcting the issue, the FAI has instead attempted to shift blame onto Kerry FC while silencing any dissent.

“Football should be governed with integrity, not intimidation. We will not accept being bullied into silence.

“Kerry FC calls on the FAI to immediately investigate this and take appropriate action.”

Finn Harps were sanctioned for the same game as Gavin Hodgins was deemed not eligible due to issues with his international transfer certificate.

The 19-year-old was loaned by Shelbourne to Glenavon last year – though he subsequently played for the Reds Under-20s side.

Harps have also said they will be appealing.

The FAI have been contacted for a response to this story.

‘Why would Jake Paul care about someone like Gerwyn Price?’ – Van Gerwen slams talk of crossover boxing fight

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has been left baffled by the prospect of Gerwyn Price battling Jake Paul in the boxing ring.

Darts star Price, 40, called out the YouTuber-turned-boxer for a dust-up earlier this year.

The Welshman – a former rugby union star – promised to KO Paul with just “one punch”.

Price revealed last month that Paul had responded to his challenge and wanted to battle it out in Greece – but he had been “too scared” to pen a response.

He admitted: “He wrote back to me. The message says ‘Come to Greece, man. Just name a price.'”

But The Iceman’s Premier League rival Van Gerwen has been left in the cold by the prospect of a boxing bout.

MVG takes on Price in the quarter-finals in this Thursday’s Premier League event in Berlin.

Asked about the prospect of Price vs Paul, Van Gerwen replied: “What a ridiculous thing.

“I don’t like it. I don’t see that fight happening at all.

“Why would Jake Paul care about someone like Gerwyn Price?

“No chance, not now, maybe not ever.”

Van Gerwen also spiced things up ahead of the showdown in Germany by claiming he wasn’t even aware of who he was playing.

He continued: “I don’t care at all who I have to play against.

“I didn’t even know until you told me.

“You have to be ready for anyone anyway.”

Van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, is yet to win a Premier League night this season.

He currently sits third in the standings behind World No1 Luke Humphries and reigning PDC champ Luke Littler.

MVG last won the coveted world title back in 2019, pocketing £500,000 in the process.

The PDC recently announced it was to double the sport’s top prize, with next year’s world champ bagging a cool £1million.

Van Gerwen added: “If you look at the sport’s popularity and the way inflation has risen over the past six years, this was bound to happen at some point.

“It was already a lot of money, and now it’s doubled. But at some point, the money doesn’t matter anymore.

“I’m all about that title – that’s the best motivation.”

Alongside a black and white video of her hugging her best pal, devastated Jess said she “would do anything” for one last cuddle.

The 2024 islander also told her followers that she had travelled to Poland to be with Estera’s loved ones following her death.

Jess wrote: “To our beautiful best friend Estera..

“I am angry, I am so unbelievably sad and my heart is completely broken..

“If you had the pleasure of knowing Est you were so very lucky, she was strong and she was stubborn in all of the best ways.

“She fought 5 years of her life with cancer and you would never have even known. She was brave and showed up even on her worst days and she never let her illness affect living her best little life.”

Jess went on to explain that she and Estera were “life-long best friends” after meeting when they were just 11 years old.

“A pain like this is so unbearable,” she continued.

“I am so proud of her, for everything she has had to battle the last 5 years that no one should ever go through, she deserved a long life full of abundance, and it hurts me beyond words that her story ended here.

I always said that I’d be lost without her and that’s exactly how it feels. What a beautiful soul and a blessing to of had her in my life. I feel so lucky that I got to experience a friendship so deep, a bond so unbreakable that my heart aches and my world will never be the same.

“My forever sidekick and the worst but best influence to each other. There will never be enough memories with you, and I would do anything for more time and one last cuddle.”

Jess added: “We all miss you so much Est. You are so loved and admired.

“Our real life angel in the sky, I’m desperate to laugh and dance with you again.

“Forever in my heart and always on my mind. ‘Forever together.’”

While Jess’s fans have sent their condolences, many of her Love Island friends have also commented on her sad news.

Faye Winter said: “Sending you all the love in world, a friendship like this will last a lifetime, it will be the friendship that every time something good or bad happens you’ll wish they were with you, in that moment know that they are who you think of because they are right there beside you.”

Matilda Draper added: “Sending so much love & praying for you all.”

Hay fever sufferers spend more than £3,600 on medication over their lifetime

HAY fever sufferers spend more than £3,600 on medication over their lifetime – despite some not being convinced they actually work.

A poll of 1,000 people with the allergy found 62 per cent will go through up to two boxes of antihistamine tablets per month, with half using the same amount on spray.

A constant runny nose also means a quarter will go through three or more loo rolls a week during the high-pollen season.

These remedies see them part with around £59 a year, or £3,697 over the average adult lifetime.

But despite the vast amount of medication, 28 per cent claim nothing works when it comes to dosing up on tablets and sprays – however, they will continue to buy them regardless.

This season though, 24 per cent are considering swapping the tablets and sprays for a purifier as three in 10 reckon it would be less costly than any medication to run.

And 34 per cent think it will do an overall better job in helping them cope with their allergy.

A spokesperson for Utilita Energy, which commissioned the research as part of its Power Price List campaign, said: “While many of us look forward to the arrival of spring after a long, cold and gloomy winter, it can bring a sense of dread for those who start sneezing as soon as pollen levels rise.

“Our research has revealed almost one in four hay fever sufferers are being proactive in using an air purifier indoors, with the average cost of running an air purifier 365 days a year is £39.”

Of those who have already invested in a purifier, the top reasons for making the switch were seeing positive reviews online (39 per cent), recommendations from family or friends (35 per cent), and concerns over long-term medication use (33 per cent).

While 29 per cent switched over caused by frustrations with the effectiveness of existing hay fever medication.

For nearly three quarters (72 per cent) of air purifier users, this led to improvements in many of their pollen-induced symptoms.

With 39 per cent claiming the cleaner air helped to unblock their noses, 36 per cent sneezed less than usual, and 30 per cent had relief from a constantly running nose.

But of those yet to try using an air purifier, 49 per cent admitted they had simply never thought about it.

While 64 per cent didn’t know this technology could help reduce their symptoms, the OnePoll.com survey revealed.

Utilita Energy’s spokesperson added: “To help households weigh up the value of using an air purifier, we can confirm the average entry level indoor air purifier costs £90 to buy, and £39 a year to run when using it constantly all year round.”

Antihistamines

Antihistamines (cetirizine or loratadine) work by blocking histamine in the body, which is released when the body detects something it thinks is harmful.

Histamine causes blood vessels to expand and the skin to swell, but in people with hay fever, also causes an allergic reaction. That’s the watering eyes, blocked nose, rashes and so on.

Max Wiseberg, airborne allergens expert and creator of HayMax, says that many antihistamines are available on prescription, such as Telfast, which you can see your GP for or get through an online doctor, such as LloydsPharmacy.

Telfast, and other prescription-only antihistamine tablets, work in the same way as over-the-counter antihistamines, but are stronger and intended to help with more severe symptoms.

“Get your prescription in advance of the season so you have your medication in time to start taking it at the right time,” he says.

“Some are best taken at least one month before the hay fever season starts.”

Nasal sprays

A nasal spray can be effective in controlling congestion and stuffiness.

Pharmacists can advise on nasal sprays (sodium cromoglicate, ipratropium bromide or decongestant), and eye drops, too.

Nasal sprays can also help with other symptoms of hay fever “because the medicine is targeted directly to the nose, which is where the vast majority of allergens enter the body”, Max says.

Independent pharmacist Rita Ghelani says: “Try Xlear nasal spray, which contains xylitol, and has anti-bacterial properties and keeps the nasal lining moist.

“If symptoms are more severe, then try an anti-inflammatory nasal spray – sometimes referred to as a steroid nasal spray – which can take a few days to work.

“Start with one that contains beclomethasone, which is used twice a day, in the morning and at night.”

Rita also advises cleaning the nose with a saline nasal spray before a steroid spray, saying: “It will remove sticky mucus from the nasal passage, thus improving the effectiveness of the medication.”

Eye drops

If itchy eyes are your primary concern, Rita says: “Try using sodium cromoglicate eye drops.

“These make the eyes less sensitive to allergens such as pollen and reduce irritation.

“They need to be used four times a day to keep the levels of the active ingredient high enough to be effective.

“Keep using them even if symptoms improve.

“Using a good eye drop to lubricate the eyes may also help with dry eyes during the summer months.”

Jujutsu Kaisen Has Copied This Sports Anime So Obviously That You’d Forget Hunter x Hunter and Bleach

No matter what anyone says, Jujutsu Kaisen single-handedly modernized the Shonen archetype in anime because of just how cool it looks. The character designs by Gege Akutami were already a masterclass in the manga, and when combined with Studio MAPPA’s insane animation, it surpassed expectations. However, no good thing goes uncriticized, it’s a curse itself. […]
