24 Years Later, and I Don’t Think There Will Be Another Superhero TV Show Like “Smallville’

It’s wild to think about, but Smallville first hit our screens 24 years ago. Back in 2001, it did something no other Superman adaptation, or rather any superhero adaptation, had really done before—it took us into Clark Kent’s early years. Instead of jumping straight to the caped hero we all recognize, Smallville lets us see […]

Where are the stars from the most iconic series of MAFS Australia EVER now?

MARRIED At First Sight Australia had the British public gripped during the 2020 lockdown.

The Aussie version of the show aired on E4 during the pandemic and left viewers utterly captivated by all the drama.

The series, which had aired Down Under the previous year, featured everything from cheating scandals to one groom losing his virginity on his honeymoon.

And at one very explosive dinner party, a furious newlywed chucked a glass of red wine over her hot-headed co-star.

But away from the chaos, there were success stories too.

Here, we look back at the cast of MAFS Australia 2019 and see what they are up to now.

Jessika Power and Mick Gould

Jessika and Mick’s marriage was rocked by a cheating scandal[/caption]

Jessika Power and Mick Gould’s marriage didn’t get off to the best start thanks to a crude best man’s speech at their wedding.

After tying the knot, Mick’s pal Daniel told a lewd story about their past involving viagra and it left Jessika’s dad and brother fuming.

Although to Mick it appeared city girl Jessika was trying to embrace his country boy life as a farmer, behind the scenes she began an affair with Dan Webb.

Dan was a latecomer to the series and had married Tamara Joy but, needless to say, it all ended in tears and led to both couples’ break ups.

Jessika made the most of her newfound notoriety in the UK and flew straight over here when restrictions were lifted.

She took part in both Celebs Go Dating and Ex on the Beach before eventually returning to Australia.

In January this year, Jessika revealed she had found love with a new boyfriend called Ryan – but they have since split.

Just this week, she sparked concern by sharing a video of herself with a black eye which she claims was caused by a mystery “d***head”.

Mick, meanwhile, went on to date – and move in with – Aussie Bachelor star Kayla Gray but their romance fizzled out.

The farmer has since found lasting love with his current partner Crystal.

The pair now live together hundreds of miles away from his farm after buying a house together in Noosa.

Heidi Latcham and Mike Gunner

Heidi and Mike appeared to be a good match to begin with[/caption]

Heidi Latcham and Mike Gunner hit it off from the the moment they said ‘I do’ and they made it to the end of the experiment.

But their relationship was hit with ups and downs, with Mike even famously yelling at Heidi “I’m not your therapist!” as they sat on the beach together.

Radio presenter Heidi told Mike she wanted to continue with their romance at the Final Vows, but Mike told he he ‘couldn’t make her happy’ and walked away.

The pair insisted they would remain friends but there is little evidence to suggest they ever did.

Mike, who was an electrician, now works as a filmmaker and a wedding and events photographer.

Heidi, meanwhile, took a huge break from social media and slipped under the radar following her time on the show.

However, in 2023 she reemerged and confirmed on Instagram that she was now a mum to a baby daughter.

Without revealing the name of her baby’s father, she simply gushed: “Look what we made!”

Jules Robinson and Cameron Merchant

Jules and Cam were a perfect match[/caption]

Jules and Cam are arguably one of Married At First Sight‘s biggest success stories.

The couple fell for each other instantly and, as the cameras rolled, their relationship just went from strength to strength.

Cam even proposed to Jules at the Final Vows and the couple legally tied the knot a few months later.

They are just as happy now as they were back then and are parents two sons, four-year-old Ollie and Charter, who was born last year.

Jules and Cam are no strangers to documenting their family life on social media and both have launched successful careers off the back of MAFS.

In 2023, Jules – a body confidence campaigner – launched her own brand of shape-wear for women of all shapes and sizes called FIGUR.

Cam, meanwhile, works as a motivational speaker, mental health coach and mentor.

Cyrell Paule and Nic Jovanovic

Cyrell and Nic’s relationship was fiery[/caption]

Dubbed ‘Cyclone Cyrell’, Cyrell Paule was known as the fiery one among the MAFS 2019 cast.

She married Nic Jovanovic on the show and their relationship was tumultuous to say the least.

Once the honeymoon period had warn off, Cyrell and Nic had many heated arguments and she threatened to pack her bags and leave on multiple occasions.

The couple didn’t make it to the end of the experiment and both agreed to leave the show during a Commitment Ceremony.

Cyrell went on to quickly find her match in another reality star – Love Island Australia‘s Eden Dally.

In 2020, the couple welcomed their first child together and they have recently celebrated their six-year anniversary.

Nic, meanwhile, has also found his happy ever after and got engaged last year to his girlfriend Alex. They recently embarked on a road trip across Europe together.

Ines Basic and Bronson Norrish

Ines and Bronson’s romance was also hit with an affair scandal

How many of us adopted the phrase “delicious snack” to describe a member of the opposite sex after Ines Basic coined it on MAFS?

Ines and Bronson’s marriage ended in disaster when it emerged she had cheated with Lizzie Vega-Sobinoff’s husband Sam Ball.

However, Ines later claimed Bronson had told her he wanted an open relationship in scenes that were not aired on MAFS.

She later told Mail Online: “Bronson never spoke to me again. He blocked me, I have never heard from him to this day.

Bronson still runs a party boat company[/caption]

“He had a big bust to the ego. He was saying he was into open relationships and sharing women and he found that beautiful but when it happened to him on national TV his ego took a real big bruise.”

Legal secretary Ines suffered nasty trolling following her time on MAFS and took a step back from the public eye for a while. She now models for OnlyFans.

Bronson, meanwhile, still runs a party boat company and has a long-term girlfriend called Hayley that he met on a dating app.

Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli

Martha and Michael have also lasted the distance[/caption]

Martha and Michael are another success story to come from MAFS Australia.

The couple barely encountered any dramas on the show – apart from the time Martha threw an entire glass of red wine over Cyclone Cyrell during an epic row.

Following the show, Michael and Martha moved to Bondi and announced their official engagement in 2021.

They are now proud parents to a son called Lucius, who they welcomed into the world in 2023.

During her pregnancy, Martha spoke openly about her experience with hyperemesis gravidarum – a severe form of pregnancy sickness – to raise awareness of the condition.

The couple are yet to get married officially but they have moved back to Melbourne to be close to both their families.

Mark Scrivens and Ning Surasiang

Mark and Ning’s relationship will be remembered for being awkward[/caption]

At their wedding, Ning famously announced that she was “just here for the food”.

Fans will remember Mark being hopelessly attracted to Ning, however she refused to get intimate despite claiming she was attracted to him.

The couple made it to the end of the experiment but Mark refused to commit to his wife at the Final Vows and they split.

Mick later got together with reality star Bianca Chatfield, who had appeared on Aussie show The Block.

They became parents to a daughter called Kyah Ziggi in Februrary 2022.

Ning, meanwhile, became a grandma aged 35 in 2021 when her eldest daughter gave birth aged 17.

She is still working as a hair stylist and is believed to be single.

Lizzie and Sam’s MAFS marriage ended in disaster when he had a fling with his co-star Ines Basic.

And this was after he body-shamed his wife on their wedding day.

Having put that behind her, Lizzie has found happiness and is now married to husband Alexander Vega.

In 2023, she revealed she had become a mum, telling fans: “I have never been happier.”

Matthew was a 29-year-old virgin when he married Lauren on MAFS.

He lost his virginity to her during their honeymoon, but unfortunately their relationship didn’t make it to the end of the experiment.

Matthew is still working as a filmmaker and classes himself as a “fear facer” following his time on MAFS.

He got engaged to British girlfriend Annabel in 2021.

Lauren has also found love and she became a mum for the first time last year. She is engaged to fiancé Wade Burns.

Britain won’t respond to Trump’s brutal  tariffs with ‘knee-jerk’ reaction, Keir vows – as UK economy flat lines

BRITAIN will not respond to Donald Trump’s punishing tariffs this week with “knee jerk” reaction, Sir Keir Starmer says.

The Prime Minister insisted that he could still push ahead with retaliatory tariffs but doesn’t want the UK embroiled in a trade war.

Sir Keir Starmer says there will be no “knee jerk” reaction to Donald Trump’s tariffs[/caption]

Negotiators have been trying to obtain a carve-out from the US-billed “liberation day” tariffs that are set to kick in from Thursday morning.

But Downing Street have conceded that an economic deal is unlikely to be struck before the deadline – but talks will continue.

Sir Keir said: “The likelihood is there will be tariffs. Nobody welcomes that.

“We are obviously working with the sectors most impacted at pace on that. Nobody wants to see a trade war but I have to act in the national interests.”

The pending tariff war comes as growth figures from last week show the economy is flat-lining.

There was zero growth between July and September and only 0.1 per cent growth between October to December.

Sir Keir added that business want a “calm and collected response to this, not a knee-jerk”.

His intervention comes after he spoke to Trump on Sunday night but no agreement could be struck.

He told Sky News: “We are of course negotiating an economic deal which will, I hope… mitigate the tariffs.”

When asked if he had been played by Trump, he said: “The US is our closest ally.

“Our defence, our security, our intelligence are bound up in a way that no two other countries are.

“So it’s obviously in our national interest to have a close working relationship with the US, which we’ve had for decades, and I want to ensure we have for decades to come.”

He said talks on a deal would normally take “months or years” but “in a matter of weeks we have got well advanced in those discussions”.

Trump has said that there will be an eye-watering 25 per cent import tax on cars heading to the US in a blow to the UK.

Nearly one in five, some 17 per cent, of all car exports were sent to the UK as part of a £7 billion industry.

There could also be a general 20% tax on UK products in response to the rate of VAT which the President sees as discriminatory against the US.

The tariffs could be a bitter blow to the Treasury as the independent watchdog said the levies could wipe out the £9.9 billion headroom built up by Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

It was revealed that the four separate movies, each focusing on a different individual Beatle will come out in April 2028.

He then confirmed the cast, saying how the iconic band “redefined the culture and stayed with you for a lifetime”.

Sam then branded the Liverpudlian band as “the most significant band of all time”.

He added: “I had been trying to do a film for years, but I finally gave up”, noting how the story he wanted to tell “was too big for one film”.

Fans were divided over the casting announcement after it was officially unveiled, with many even quick to ask if it was an April Fools Day joke.

“So they just want to use some hot boys instead of actors that look similar,” said one person on X.

A second asked: “Giving unknown actors a chance wasn’t an option?”

“None of this is believable and i hate it we need young nobodies who actually look the part,” penned a third.

“Giving unknown actors a chance has truly become a lost art,” said a fourth.

A fifth then said: “I’m crying they look nothing like the beatles.”

“The constant rotation of the same actors in hollywood is sooooo exhausting,” added a sixth.

Who will be playing The Beatles in the new biopics?

While a seventh said: “No way it’s real i thought it was april fools post.”

But some other fans were more complimentary.

One person said: “These are fantastic actors I’m interested.”

“I LOVE THESE YES,” added another.

“Ohhhhh sickkkk I love these actors,” said a third.

“BRILLIANT CASTING,” gushed a fourth.

While a fifth said: “Can’t wait already.”

New golf venue on Scotland’s ‘Golf Coast’ scrapped just weeks before opening date

A NEW golf facility that was due to open on Scotland’s ‘Golf Coast’ in a matter of weeks has been hastily scrapped.

Plans for a ‘get into golf’ type of venue were given the green light last month.

The land is in the space to the right of this photograph near the tennis courts[/caption]

But now the local council has performed a u-turn, on the grounds of public safety.

Enjoy Leisure, the body responsible for the provision of sport and leisure facilities in East Lothian, had hoped to create a new six-hole pitch and putt course on land at East Links, just off of East Road and in between the established courses at Glen Golf Club and North Berwick Golf Club.

The space currently has a putting green and tennis courts on it but locals feared that the public footpath that runs alongside it would be adversely impacted.

Some feared walking on the path would become dangerous and Enjoy Leisure received feedback from the community that led to them shelving the proposals.

Bill Axon, chief executive of Enjoy Leisure, said in a letter to residents: “After considering feedback and further assessing the expansion of our existing golf provision in North Berwick, the decision was made last week not to proceed with an additional pitch and putt course in the area.

“I would like to thank those who provided both positive and negative comment from within the community of North Berwick, which was invaluable in allowing Enjoy Leisure to make a final determination.”

Enjoy Leisure had hoped the new facility would encourage locals and tourists with beginner-level abilities to enjoy golf in the region, with East Lothian being one of the sport’s hotspots in Scotland.

Muirfield, a venue for The Open and the Renaissance Club, the host of the Scottish Open, are within a short drive.

Axon had said: “We’re looking forward to the development of a new pitch and putt course at East Links.

“This project aims to enhance recreational opportunities and has been designed with the community in mind.

“We plan to host coaching sessions to encourage youngsters not only to play golf, but also to increase their activity levels, which is one of our main commitments.

“The space will remain accessible for the full East Lothian community and visitors to North Berwick.”

Kenny Miller, chair of North Berwick Community Council, said: “Concerns have been raised about the potential loss of amenity space.

“I haven’t yet seen the extent of this course, whether it occupies more space than the putting green occupied. This is common land.

“Concerns have also been raised about the safety of this proposal, as there is a public footpath alongside the course.

“Enjoy Leisure say the orientation of the holes means this is safe, but presupposes that every shot played goes exactly where it is intended to go. We know that is unlikely to happen.”

A local source told The National: “It’s great that Enjoy Leisure has now confirmed that the Common Good land is for everyone and that the proposed pitch and putt won’t be going ahead.”
