ALLY McCOIST scored bucketloads of goals at Ibrox during a trophy-laden 15-year spell at the club during the 1980s and 1990s.
But for one weekend at least during that period, rock-daft Ally reckons Glasgow group Simple Minds blew even his Ibrox achievements out of the water.
The star-struck Ibrox icon was interviewing Celtic-daft frontman Jim Kerr and his fellow Hoops fanatic Charlie Burchill on TalkSPORT this morning.
The Hoops-daft singer, who told recently how he was locked in a meat freezer by Rangers fans in a job before entering the business, and guitar hero Burchill are still going strong after some 50 years in the business.
And perhaps he was a little surprised that they namechecked the famous Govan ground as they transported him back to June 1986 and a sell-out weekend at the newly redeveloped stadium which was one of the first big gigs of its kind in Scotland.
The line-up included the likes of The Waterboys and The Cult as support acts.
McCoist innocently asked: “Venues, what previous venues what have been your favourites and what are you looking forward to?”
Cue hilarity when Kerr replied: “Ibrox! Remember we were there the day before!”
Quick as a flash, McCoist replied: “I was there!”
“And just for the record you played a lot better at Ibrox than I did.”
As it happens Simple Minds are due to play a triumphant homecoming gig at Bellahouston Park on Friday June 27 – and McCoist will be in attendance.
Kerr even joked that the open air concert venue is just about close enough to Ibrox to be the final resting point for some of McCoist’s more wayward shots.
He said: “Funnily enough the first gig we do is Bellahouston Park and you probably put a few balls into Bellahouston Park!”
McCoist replied: “It’s end of June, I can’t remember the date, but I’m coming along.
“We actually used to do our preseason training running round the park, so it will be a pleasant change just to listen to you.”

LOVE Island’s Catherine Agbaje has proved there is no love lost with her ex Omar Nyame, after she took a savage swipe at him in a new video about “no second chances”.
Yesterday, we exclusively revealed how Catherine, 24, and Omar, 26, had split up, just weeks after leaving the All Stars villa.
During their time on the show, they were a huge hit with Love island fans, and came in fourth place during the series finale at the end of February.
But just over a month later, The Sun revealed how they have now broken up.
Today, Catherine threw some shade at her ex Omar, when she reposted a TikTok video entitled “no second chances”
In the short clip TikToker Bigbossvette talks about how she won’t take her man back, because if he’s done “f***ed up s**t” before, he’ll do it again”.
She then adds that her ex “better not come round” her again.
The fact that Catherine chose to repost this clip, suggests she doesn’t want anything more to do with Omar.
There had been speculation over the last few weeks that Catherine and Omar had broken up.
It came after they went social media silent on each other.
Their last public appearance together was at the All Stars wrap party, where they were seen laughing and chatting with fellow finalists.
After that, they kept a low profile regarding their relationship, fueling rumours of a break-up.
Yesterday, The Sun exclusively revealed the REAL reason why Catherine and Omar decided to split.
An insider told us: “They never reached ‘exclusive’/boyfriend-girlfriend stage so it just had run its course.”
Catherine and Omar knew each other before going on Love Island All Stars.
Although they appeared in different seasons of the ITV2 dating show, like most Islanders, they moved in the same social circles and had mutual friends in London.
Omar previously confessed to having his eye on Catherine before entering the villa, and made a beeline for her when he joined the show on Day 19.
During their time All Stars, the couple had a smooth run compared to some of the other Islanders, and made it to the grande finale where they came in fourth.
Just five weeks ago, Omar thanked to Catherine for getting him to the final.
Sharing loved up snaps, he wrote online: “From the deepest part of my heart I just wanna say thank you to everyone who’s supported my journey as well as Catherine’s because without her things wouldn’t be this way.
“I can’t wait to show you all more fun times ahead as we embark on this new journey in life!”
Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be and the Catherine and Omar are now single again – maybe they can try again on All Stars next year.

A FERRARI veered off the carriageway and flipped on to its roof, causing the closure of a major road.
The crashed happened at around 9.30am Tuesday on the A23 at Muddleswood, West Sussex.
The A-road had to be partially shut to allow the crashed vehicle to be towed by recovery crews.
Pictures show the overturned bright-red supercar lying amid bushes on the bank at the side of the road.
Traffic crawled to a standstill as a salvage truck used heavy duty salvage equipment to remove the vehicle.
The car is thought to be a Ferrari 812 Superfast, which retail for upwards of £230,000.
The car has a top speed of 211mph and can do 0-60mph in only 2.8 seconds.
It is the same model that American actor Michael B. Jordan crashed into a parked car back in December 2023.
Jordan lost control of his blue sports car on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
The incident caused major damage to the front left side of his vehicle and caused the wheel to fall off.
Only three days ago another car overturned on the same road in West Sussex.
On Sunday a 51-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license.
Officers went to the A23 southbound at Hickstead at approximately 8.15am after the vehicle flipped on to its roof.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no injuries, but the woman was taken into police custody.
The A23 was closed southbound while her vehicle was recovered.

Born in May 1999, Bonnie – whose real name is Tia Billinger – grew up in a small Derbyshire village, and attended the Friesland School in the village of Sandiacre.
She has two half-siblings – a sister and a brother – who have always remained out of the public eye.
She never knew her biological father, and considers stepfather Nicholas Elliott her dad.
Bonnie also became something of a dance star in her local area, and competed in the British Street Dance Championships alongside her sister back in 2015.
She also had a part-time job at Poundstretcher as a teenager.

PRINCE Harry’s charity boss has been accused of “playing the race card” after she claimed she was “bullied”.
Sentebale’s Dr Sophie Chandauka had accused Harry of “harassment and bullying at scale” after he and other trustees quit the charity last week.
But now a source close to the trustees has claimed Dr Chandauka alleged racism when she realised “things were not going her way”, The Telegraph reported.
A source told the newspaper: “She’s definitely playing the race card and openly.
“This is her plan. As soon as anyone turns against her, she brings the race card in and she comes for you.
“She’s a very poisonous woman and it’s very sad it’s come to this.”
The source also said Dr Chandauka allegedly accused the trustees of bullying when challenged over losing a major sponsor.
The dispute is said to have centred on the annual Sentebale polo cup, which is a key fundraising event for the charity.
It comes as Dr Chandauka shut down her social media after she was trolled by “Sussex Squad” backers of the Duke and wife Meghan.
She was subjected to racial abuse and wild conspiracy theories.
Others branded her a “fraud jumping on a bandwagon of hate” in series of offensive messages.
A user with “TeamSussex” in their profile used a racist term to denounce Dr Chandauka.
A totally unfounded dig bizarrely claimed she was paid by William and Kate to discredit Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43.
A Sentebale spokesman said: “Dr Chandauka deleted her Twitter account due to the proliferation of online bullying.”

SHOCKING new archaeological evidence likely confirms the Christian tradition that Jesus was crucified and buried at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
These new clues could settle the long-standing debate over Jesus’ death.
Scientists have discovered and analysed the remains of a plant from the site, dating them to around the time of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial.
Jesus Christ is widely believed to have been crucified and died in the spring of 33 AD.
The researchers from Sapienza University of Rome claim that the plant identified could even be the same plant referenced in the Gospel of John:
“Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. There they laid Jesus,” reads John 19:41.
“The Gospel mentions a green area between the Calvary and the tomb, and we identified these cultivated fields,” lead archaeologist, Francesca Romana Stasolla told The Times of Israel.
But other evidence also lends weight to the theory that the church in question played an important role in Jesus’ history.
Marble tombs on the Holy Sepulchre compound were uncovered by the researchers.
Stasolla explained that she plans to do additional testing of the marble tomb to uncover further information about Jesus’ death.
“We are conducting geological analysis to verify the origin of the marble, and we are also testing the mortar,” she said. “Both tests can give us important information.”
Stasolla added: “Whether someone believes or not in the historicity of the Holy Sepulchre, the fact that generations of people did is objective.
“The history of this place is the history of Jerusalem, and at least from a certain moment, it is the history of the worship of Jesus Christ.”
The team of Italian archaeologists, that has been conducting excavations since 2022, has had to pause its work for several weeks to keep the church accessible during Holy Week and Easter.
The church, dating back to the 4th century A.D. and located outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
Excavation and restoration work has not come without its challenges.
It required the approval of the three central religious communities managing the church — the Orthodox Patriarchate, the Custody of the Holy Land and the Armenian Patriarchate — as well as a license from the Israel Antiquities Authority.
