THIS is the shocking moment a learner moped rider collides with a turning car.
Undertaking cars while in a cycle lane, the motorist can be seen speeding towards the junction.
Caught by dashcam footage, the scooter can be seen whizzing past vehicles stuck in a traffic jam.
A split-second could have made all the difference as a blue Ford Focus seems to turn into a side road.
Coming from the opposite direction, the driver must not have spotted the moped.
The bonnet of the car barely reaches past the road markings before it can be seen slowing down in response.
As the moped ploughs into the passenger side door, a passer-by turns to witness the commotion.
The driver filming the footage turns closer to the pavement, finding a stronger viewpoint to watch the incident unfold.
Whilst the rider was knocked from his scooter, he quickly seems to pick himself up.
The driver of the Focus then got out to check they were okay.
The smash was captured on Sunday at 9:21am.
It happened on Bath Road at the junction of St Paul’s Close, Hounslow West, west London.
Mopeds are banned from using cycle lanes in the capital.
Locals were split on who they thought was at fault, as reported on NeedToKnow.
One – a keen cyclist – said: “It is often difficult to see motorcyclists and cyclists.
“When turning right across a line of slow-moving or stationary traffic, look out for and give way to cyclists or motorcyclists on the inside of the traffic you are crossing.”
Another said: “If the car driver had checked for cyclists this could have been prevented.
“Granted, the moped rider should have been riding more cautiously.”
Yet a third said: “Speeding down the bike lane, great idea.”
Another added: “Shouldn’t be undertaking.
“Simple.”
A fifth – sat on the fence – and said: “On the one hand, it is an offence to ride a motorbike in a cycle lane.
“On the other hand the driver should check the cycle lane while being prepared to give way to any cycles.”
The TfL website reads: “Only pedal cycles and rental electric scooters can use cycle lanes.
“To make roads safer for cyclists, all other road users, including motorcycles and other types of scooters, may not use cycle lanes.”
