Who was Olly Stephens and how long were his killers sentenced for?

Growing up in Berkshire

Olly was born on November 1, 2007, and grew up in Emmer Green, Berkshire.

He was diagnosed with autism at the age of 13 and was also suspected to have pathological demand avoidance (PDA).

PDA is characterised by a compulsive need to resist authority and expectations.

Sadly, on January 3, 2021, Olly was fatally stabbed to death near his home.

Olly’s tragic murder

Olly was tricked into going to Bugs Bottom field in Reading by two boys, who had a “grievance” with him, and a girl.

He believed that he was meeting the girl alone – a girl who was revealed to have said “I’m so excited” before the attack – but was ambushed.

The younger boy stabbed Olly when he tried to fight back, with all three assailants then fleeing the scene.

In court, it was revealed to the jury that Olly’s killers had sent sinister messages about the 13-year-old to each other in the days leading up to the stabbing.

An off-duty nurse witnessed the stabbing and gave first aid to Olly, after calling an ambulance to save him.

Paramedics performed CPR on him for half an hour, but he sadly died en route to hospital.

Two hours after Olly’s death, one of his attackers sent a text message to a friend, that confirmed his role in the murder.

The message read: “Boy it was me and my boy innit. I started slapping him up and then my boy backed out and then shanked him.”

The younger attacker sent a message that described the stabbing as “the biggest mistake of my life”.

Olly’s killers face justice

Both boys were quickly identified with 90 per cent of the evidence against them being taken from mobile phone data.

The girl involved in the attack pleaded guilty to manslaughter and perverting the course of justice, as it was revealed that she deleted incriminating data from her phone.

She was later handed a three-year and two-month sentence in a Young Offenders Institution.

The boys were convicted of murder on July 26, 2021, with the older boy receiving an additional conviction of perverting the course of justice.

However, the younger boy received a longer sentence due to being the person to stab Olly, which meant he was slapped with a 14-year sentence.

The older boy was jailed for 13 years.

Coming face-to-face with his son’s killers in court in September 2021, Olly’s dad Stuart relived the horrifying moment he sprinted to find his son dying.

He said: “The cruel actions of a vain, selfish girl has led to Olly being trapped and slain.

“The day she walked into his life is a day we will forever regret.

“We as a family hold all three of you equally accountable for his death, there will be no forgiveness from us, ever.

“We are no longer the people we were and we will never be the same again.”

Olly’s family also paid tribute to him in a statement issued by Thames Valley Police.

It said: “Oliver was an enigma, having both Autism and suspected Pathological Demand Avoidance, he became a challenge we never shied away from.

“He was hilariously funny, charming and beautiful.”

In June 2022, Stuart told BBC Panorama: “They hunted him, tracked him and executed him through social media

“Social media is not guilty of the murder, but it did nothing to protect him.

“Without it, he’d still be here.”

Social Media Murders

Oly’s tragic death will be explored in The Murder of Olly Stephens: Social Media Murders.

The episode will feature exclusive interviews with the people who helped bring Olly’s killers to justice and will take viewers behind the scenes into how social media played a role in the killing.

Viewers can catch the episode when it airs at 9pm on ITV2.

Did you guess the woman in question is Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha’s eldest daughter?[/caption]

The Loose Women panelist in question is Nadia Sawalha, and the stunning woman in the loved-up picture is her daughter Maddie, 22.

Born on Christmas Day in 2002, Nadia’s eldest child is an aspiring singer/songwriter.

She already has a good following on Instagram of over 17K fans, and uses the platform to promote her music career.

Yesterday, Maddie – who has her mum’s thick brown hair – enjoyed some down time with her man, and shared a sweet snap of them in the pub.

Nadia shares Maddie with her husband Mark Adderley, who she wed the same year her daughter was born.

Their youngest child Kiki, 17, was born five years after her sister, in 2007.

Both of Nadia’s children share a VERY famous aunt, as her sister is Absolutely fabulous star Julia Sawalha.

As she has grown up around stars like her mum and auntie, it is no wonder Maddie is perusing a career in the limelight as well.

MADDIE ‘SAVED MY LIFE’

Nadia previously admitted that having her daughter Maddie had “saved her life” as she feared she was “heading to an early death'” following “years of partying”.

Speaking in 2022, the Loose Women star said that welcoming her eldest child into the world and becoming a mother, was a real “turning point” in her life.

She made the admission on her How To Stay Married (so far) podcast, which she does with husband Mark.

Nadia explained: “When I met you I wasn’t thinking about having children actually, I was really planning a different life.

“I didn’t want to have a child with someone I didn’t like enough. And I didn’t want to bring up a child on my own.”

Nadia then told listeners that falling pregnant with their eldest child was “bonkers” and that the first few years of of being a mum was “very very hard” as she struggled to adjust to her new life.

But it got good, and Nadia concluded by saying that she was glad she’d waited till her late 30s to have a baby, and that it was the “best decision” she has ever made.

“If we had had a baby in our 20s we wouldn’t have made it,” the TV star reflected.

“We wouldn’t have been on the right track to wellbeing and self-improvement.

“We have worked on every single part of us because we are parents.”

‘I just want to have a game of golf, go down the boozer’ – Steven Gerrard on his future plans amid Rangers speculation

SOME Rangers fans would LOVE him to return to the club where he ended Celtic’s pursuit of ten in a row by landing a historic Premiership title.

But Steven Gerrard has revealed that a return to management couldn’t be further from his mind right now.

Steven Gerrard is in no hurry to return to management

The Liverpool legend is back in his home city after his stint at Saudi Arabia and isn’t hankering for a return to the stresses and strains of football management.

He told the Peter Crouch podcast:  “I don’t want to be back in work mate. Not at the moment.

“I’ve just come out, so I’m happy with waking up and being free, doing the family stuff.

“I’m just being free, away from stress and all that.

“I will go back in at some point, but when it’s around the clock, which I’ve been doing the last 18-19 months in terms of the last job, I just want to be free, I just want to have a game of golf, go down the boozer and have a couple of beers.

“I want to do normal things that you can’t really do when you’re coaching, so I am all good.

“I’m good and stress free. I’m out of work in terms of the coaching and management, which is obviously 24/7.

“I’m back in Liverpool for a couple of weeks, seeing friends and family. I’m great, I’m all good.”

Former team-mate Stephane Henchoz, on the other hand, reckons a Gerrard returns to Glasgow is entirely logical.

He said recently: “I think Steven Gerrard going back to Rangers would 100 per-cent make sense, he delivered at Rangers during his first spell and I think the fans would be pleased.

“At the moment the club are in a very difficult situation, Barry Ferguson has come in as caretaker manager, we will have to see how things go until the end of the season. I think Steven Gerrard would be a very good solution for the summer

“At the moment Celtic are far away from Rangers, I was there to see them play Young Boys in the Champions League and they played great football, had great movement and they have great technical players.

“That’s enough to win the title in Scotland. I was surprised at how well they did in the Champions League.”
