Leicester break dismal record that’s stood for 32 years as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side hurtle towards relegation
IN THE midst of a turgid season, Leicester City have picked up another unwanted accolade.
Ruud van Nistelrooy‘s Foxes sit 19th in the table with 17 points from 30 games played, only slightly better than Derby County‘s 2007-08 campaign – their 11 points the fewest in Premier League history.

While they may not be the worst Premier League side ever, they have picked up another unwanted piece of history after losing 2-0 to Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Jack Grealish opened the scoring after just four minutes with his first goal since December 2023, which he later donated to his late brother.
Omar Marmoush doubled the Champions’ lead in the second half.
His contribution marked the 25th time this season that Leicester had conceded first in a match, more than any other team in Premier League history.
They surpass previous record holders Ipswich Town, who in 1994-95 conceded first in 24 of their 38 games on their way to a 22nd place finish.
That record had stood for thirty years.
Defence, unsurprisingly, is among Leicester’s leading problem areas as they stare down the barrel at a prompt return to the Championship.
They have not kept a clean sheet since since beating Bournemouth 1-0 in their seventh match of the season.

They are also on track to concede a club record number of Premier League goals this season, having shipped 67 so far.
The score to beat is 80 goals against, a record set as Leicester were relegated alongside Ipswich in 1994-95.
That leaves Leicester with eight matches to concede less than 13 goals – a tall order as Van Nistelrooy’s leaky backline have conceded an average of 2.3 goals per game in their last 10 outings.
They failed to score in eight of those 10 matches, most recently finding the back of the net in a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Old Trafford on February 7, almost two months ago.
One must look even further back for their most recent win, which came away to Tottenham Hotspur in late January after goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss.
Van Nistelrooy has won just three of 20 matches since taking over from Steve Cooper in December, with Leicester now twelve points adrift of safety.
The Dutchman took over the club after a brief stint as Manchester United‘s interim manager during which he won three of four games before Ruben Amorim was signed from Sporting CP.
‘Promotion and scheduling in GAA isn’t working’ fumes Dublin legend as he points to League of Ireland clash as example
ALAN BROGAN believes “promotion and scheduling in GAA isn’t right” and pointed to a League of Ireland match as an example of how it should be done.
St Patrick’s Athletic host champions Shelbourne in a bumper Premier Division clash on Friday night at Richmond Park.

Stephen Kenny‘s men are top of the table going into the weekend, with Damien Duff‘s side in fourth but just one point adrift.
The game will be shown live on Virgin Media Two and is expected to draw a large crowd to Inchicore.
The build-up to the game has been observed by Brogan, who won three All-Ireland titles and 11 Leinster championships with Dublin.
And he took to Twitter to suggest the League of Ireland is succeeding where the GAA is failing when it comes to promotion.
He said: “I’m seeing more exposure on Pats Shels tomorrow night than I did for a National League Final last Sunday with arguably one of the top 3 footballers we have ever sen [sic] centre stage in Croke Park.
“Promotion and Schedulig [sic] of fixtures in GAA not working at the moment.”
Last weekend’s Allianz League finals drew attention for the crowd that turned out to Croke Park for the meeting of Kerry and Mayo.
Jack O’Connor’s men outlasted Kevin McStay’s troops in front of just over 21,500 people at GAAHQ.
Attendances have become an issue in recent years, with just over 21,000 fans coming out for the double header Leinster SFC semi-finals last year.
And it has led the provincial council to make the decision to move the last four OUT of Croke Park.
Ticket prices for the games have been cut to €15 and Leinster GAA chief Derek Kent hopes the switch breathes life into a competition that Dublin have won 14 times on the spin.
He said: “The logic behind it was that we were playing games in Croke Park with half or quarter of an empty stadium. The atmosphere wasn’t there.
“Dublin will travel anywhere. They’re a county that has no issue travelling anywhere.
“It’s not about levelling the playing field. It’s about giving the support better value and an atmosphere that will suit semi-finals.
“A provincial ground will get some rebate back on what they’ve spent.
“At the end of the day, we can go out to provincial grounds which are all up to standard.
“The point I’m making is that going out there is a win-win for everybody.
“It’s a win-win for supporters and it’s a win-win for the county boards.”

4 ways to keep your energy bills low
Laura Court-Jones, Small Business Editor at Bionic shared her tips.
1. Turn your heating down by one degree
You probably won’t even notice this tiny temperature difference, but what you will notice is a saving on your energy bills as a result. Just taking your thermostat down a notch is a quick way to start saving fast. This one small action only takes seconds to carry out and could potentially slash your heating bills by £171.70.
2. Switch appliances and lights off
It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills
3. Install a smart meter
Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used.
4. Consider switching energy supplier
No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you’ve let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven’t browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there.

Wynne Evans lands first job since Strictly tour axing – alongside another very controversial star
OUSTED Strictly Come Dancing star, Wynne Evans, will be performing with another axed star in a new role.
Wynne, 53, will be one of the headliners alongside former Strictly pro dancer, Giovanni Pernice at the Wight Proms festival.

The Welsh tenor was sacked from the Strictly live tour and suspended from his BBC Radio Wales show last month following accusations he used inappropriate language.
He was also now reportedly axed from his lucrative GoCompare advert deal.
The Wights Proms festival will run on the Isle of Wight from August 12 – 17.
Wynne is headlining the final night of the Proms where he’ll sing with G4 singer, Mike Christie, and the Wight Proms Orchestra.
Giovanni will headline the Saturday night performance, where he will talk about his life and career.
The announcement of their headlining gig was made to the official Wight Proms Festival Instagram account where people shared their thoughts.
“Great line-up! Well done Wight Proms,” wrote one person in the comments section.
“Come on Wynne, missing you x” added another.
And a third wrote: “brilliant Wynne.”
Wynne was sacked earlier this year a sexual comment during the tour’s press launch and accusations he used inappropriate language to pro dancer Janette Manrara.
But Wynne has vowed to fight to save his reputation and told friends he would take the BBC to a tribunal if he lost his radio job.
He also reportedly felt he’d been knifed by the BBC over his Strictly tour axe.
Most recently, Wynne shared a cryptic post about the “truth” as he fights to save his career.
Taking to social media this week, Wynne shared a close-up grinning selfie as he went about his morning routine and the hashtag “Truth will out” despite it appearing to have no connection to the other messages in his post.
Just a few hours later, Wynne made reference to the truth once more.
The opera singer shared a comment from a fan which read: “We all miss you.”
Wynne then replied with: “I miss you all very very much ‘TruthWins #Wynners.”
