Chelsea fans push Premier League to investigate their OWN OWNER Todd Boehly over ‘unauthorised ticket website’

CHELSEA fans have demanded the Premier League investigate their OWN OWNER Todd Boehly.

The American billionaire fronted the £4.25billion purchase of the West London club from Roman Abramovich in 2022.

The American owner was the subject of an angry protest last month[/caption]

He has since gone on a staggering transfer rampage, splashing out more than £1.2bn on new signings.

Boehly, 51, is also trying to figure out what the future home of Chelsea will look like amid hopes of building a bigger, more modern stadium to replace Stamford Bridge.

However, the LA Dodgers owner is not universally popular among Blues supporters – as demonstrated with a protest march against him and the Clearlake Capital and BlueCo groups who make up the consortium.

And now the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust have launched a scathing attack on Boehly by reporting him.

The organisation sent a letter to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.

And the centre of their fury is around Boehly’s connection to the controversial company Vivid Seats.

Since investing in 2021, Boehly has been a director at the business which resells tickets for Premier League matches, including Chelsea fixtures, at hugely inflated prices, often thousands of pounds above face value.

The American firm is listed by the Prem as an “unauthorised ticket website” and tells fans to “exercise extreme caution” if dealing with them and other exchange sites.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

Tickets for Chelsea’s London derby at home to Tottenham on April 3 are available to buy on Vivid Seats for more than £2,000 at the time of writing.

For the Liverpool game on May 2, prices range from £442 to more than £3,200.

It is against British law to resell tickets in this way, making it illegal for UK-based fans to buy Premier League tickets from Vivid Seats.

It comes against the backdrop of the Stamford Bridge hierarchy proudly boasting of their crackdown on ticket touts outside the stadium on a matchday.

And Blues fans are furious with Boehly’s direct involvement in a website ripping off supporters wanting to watch their team in action live.

CST labelled it as a “breach of trust” and a “clear conflict of interest”.

The letter to Prem boss Masters said: “Mr Boehly’s connection with Vivid Seats is totally inappropriate and significantly undermines the efforts of Chelsea FC, The Premier League, and The Metropolitan Police to combat ticket touting.

‘NO EXCUSE’

“Vivid Seats continues to list Premier League tickets for above face value at significantly inflated rates.

“Not only does this undermine the efforts of Chelsea FC, The Premier League, and The Metropolitan Police to combat ticket touting, but Vivid Seats contravenes the Chelsea FC ticketing policy, and is explicitly named by the Premier League as a known unauthorised ticket website.

“We believe that now is the time for the Premier League to act swiftly and ensure that a major shareowner of a Premier League club ceases facilitating the sale of tickets for significantly above face value.”

The Football Supporters’ Association threw their support behind the CST and added: “It is clear the Premier League needs to take action.

“Clubs, supporters’ groups, the police and the Premier League itself has worked hard in recent years to combat ticket touting – there is no excuse for a club owner to be involved in such activity.”

SunSport has contacted Chelsea for comment.

The new route marks the only connection between Scotland and Canada’s second-largest city.

The service will operate three times a week between June 27 and September 7.

Flights will depart Edinburgh each Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning, arriving into Canada’s cultural hub in just over seven hours.

On the return, flights depart Montreal each Monday, Thursday and Saturday evening, before arriving at Edinburgh Airport the next morning.

The airline’s 737 MAX 8 fleet features 16 seats in Premium Economy and 153 in Economy, with personal touchscreen TVs at every seat.

Situated in the French-speaking province of Quebec, Montreal offers travellers a wealth of leading attractions.

Visitors can explore landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, walk along the historic Old Port, and savour the city’s world-famous bagels and poutine.

Air Canada will operate a total of 75 weekly flights between the UK and Canada this summer, with routes from London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh to cities including Calgary, Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.

Margaret Skinner, Air Canada’s Senior Director Sales EMEAI, said: “With just days to go until the start of the summer season, we are extremely excited to be announcing another new transatlantic route from the UK to our home hub, Montreal.

“Edinburgh has always been an important market for Air Canada, thanks to strong business, tourism, and cultural ties between Scotland and Canada, so we are proud to be expanding our presence in the market by adding a second route for 2025.

“With up to 75 weekly flights between the UK and Canada this summer, we are proud to be the largest airline in the market, offering customers not only convenient connections to Canada, but also seamless transfers onto our global network of destinations in the US, Mexico, Caribbean and South America.”

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: “This is a fantastic addition to our North America connectivity, and we are delighted that Air Canada is adding more options from Scotland’s busiest airport.

“We see continued demand for direct links between Canada and Scotland, and that demand is both inbound and outbound, demonstrating the attractiveness of Edinburgh and Scotland to an international audience as well as the excitement people here have for a country we have strong bonds with.

“This addition is also a big vote of confidence from Air Canada in Edinburgh’s market, and we look forward to welcoming this new route later this summer.”

‘This will save lives’ – Ireland ‘primed to address’ devastating wildfire after multi-agency op as ‘preparation key’

OVER 100 personnel took part in a multi-agency operation today to assess Ireland’s capabilities to respond to devastating wildfires.

The EU exercise was the first of its kind to take place here with climate change cited as the number one reason for an increase in the number of blazes during the spring and summer fire season.

An Garda Siochana, the Defence Forces, Coillte, the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Mountain Rescue and the Civil Defence took part in the operation, as well as Dublin and Wicklow fire services, in Turlough Hill, Co Wicklow.

Drone technology from Maynooth University was piloted and the possibility of deploying aircraft from other EU states was also examined.

The EU Modex exercise is a wild land and forest fire advisory mission organised by the National Directorate of Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) and organisers said it was designed to review Ireland’s planning and response to large forest fires.

NDFEM Senior Assistant National Fire Advisor Paul Rock said: “This advisory exercise concentrated on Ireland’s preparedness for the more frequent and more devastating wild land forest fires, with forestry management experts, aerial firefighting experts and host nation experts reviewing Ireland’s planning and preparedness for these events.”

NPWS Director Niall O Donnchu added: “Preparation and planning are key so that we are always primed to address such an event.

“A well-trained response to such events will save lives and nature and minimise damage.”

Minister of State for nature, heritage and biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan has said the vital exercise is an opportunity to test Ireland’s capability in a large forest fire scenario.

He said: “Forest fires can cause devastation to communities, wildlife and our unique natural landscapes, while also placing significant strain on emergency services.

“While fire prevention is always the first priority, the National Parks and Wildlife Service has worked tirelessly to ensure it is ready to respond quickly and effectively in the event of fire in any of our parks and nature reserves.

“The simulation exercise in Wicklow Mountains National Park is an excellent opportunity to enhance the expertise of all emergency agencies who would work together and collaborate in the event of a large forest fire.”
