I make £8,500 a month doing simple job and only work three hours a day – I’m less stressed and have more time to myself

A SAVVY man has found a great means of boosting his income – and has taken his earnings to a whole new level.

Kaz Prakash from Hertfordshire signed up to local services marketplace, Airtasker, in May last year, and hasn’t looked back since.

The site connects people looking to get everyday jobs done with individuals who are willing to do them.

The 28-year-old told The Sun: “I’ve got a real passion for electrical repairs and realised there was the potential to earn big money from this.”

Through Airtasker, Kaz started fixing all manner of items including coffee machines, treadmills and cars.

Before he knew it, he’d earned a huge £7,000 in just one month.

This year he’s taken his side hustle a step further, netting a whopping £8,550 in January alone.

“I was actually abroad in Turkey for a stint last month,” said the hard-working entrepreneur. So I made that amount in just three weeks.”

Kaz now has dreams of beating this monthly record.

“I love working for myself – and being able to work flexibly,” he said.

“I’m hopeful my earnings may go up again.”

Airtasker saw a 3,000% increase in people signing up to the site in 2024 as Brits turned to the “flex economy” to help combat rising living costs – and to achieve a better work-life balance.

Kaz first found out about the marketplace when he saw an ad on the London Underground.

“I decided to check out the website,” he said. “When I first looked, I didn’t see a lot of jobs in my niche.”

But that all changed once he’d signed up.

“Suddenly a lot of tasks started showing which were right for my skillset,” he said.

“That’s when I began to realise just how much demand there is for someone who can carry out electrical repairs.”

While Kaz’s side hustle is now going great guns, the entrepreneur admits it did take him a little while to get his foot in the door – and get up to speed.

He said: “At first, I failed to provide my bank details – so in the beginning, I did a few jobs without getting paid. That was a costly mistake.”

But the repair whizz soon sorted that.

Kaz said: “As time went by, I got a lot more confident with the site. I began to get a better understanding of the ‘lead-generation’ model – and built a strong profile to capitalise on this.”

Once things were up and running smoothly, Kaz’s side hustle went from strength to strength.

He said: “Since joining Airtasker in May last year, I’ve already completed more than 300 jobs and got more than 200 reviews.”

Kaz prides himself on his high level of customer service.

“Right now, I have a ‘4.7-star’ rating,” he said. “But I would love to see that go up to five-stars.”

Born in Madrid, Spain, Kaz started out as a software and electronics technician before going on to gain experience in tech, healthcare and engineering.

He came to the UK in 2021, and after stints in Manchester and Birmingham, he moved to his home in a village close to Hitchin, in 2022.

Kaz currently runs an electronics business, as well as a logistics company.

“I’ve done this for many years,” said the side-gig pro. “That’s why I was excited to discover Airtasker.

“It’s given me the chance to do something a bit different.”

According to his profile, the hard-grafting entrepreneur can turn his hand to many different tasks, including tech support, data recovery, and programming.

The long list of items he can repair ranges from kitchen appliances, cars, dental and optical equipment, to treadmills and other fitness paraphernalia.

Over the years, Kaz has developed a strong work ethic.

“I tend to work seven days a week – totting up more than 70 hours overall,” he said.

“Of this, I probably devote around 35 hours a week to jobs on Airtasker.”

Kaz is no stranger to going above and beyond.

“Now that I’m well established, I sometimes choose to carry tasks for free,” he said. “I like being able to give back to the community.”

On one such occasion last year, Kaz helped a cash-strapped single mum with three children.

“She needed a replacement washing machine fitted,” he said.

“So I took out the old unit – down two flights of stairs – and fitted the new one for her.”

Kaz was recently named as one of Airtasker’s “Top Taskers of 2024” – a title given to individuals who showcase a high level of skill and service to the community.

“I’m always busy doing jobs in my village,” he added. “Everyone knows me as the man who can fix things.

“I love getting out and meeting people.”

While Kaz is diligent about moving a portion of his earnings into savings so he can build funds for the future, he also has a soft spot for cars.

“Cars are my hobby,” he said. “I now have a few in my collection – these are my absolute love.”

Equally, he has philanthropic plans, too.

Top tips on using Airtasker to boost your income

Kaz gave his top tips for using Airtasker to boost your income:

Find something you’re passionate about. Many people are bored of their 9-5 job, so think about what you like doing – and come up with something that motivates you.

Perseverance is key. There will be the odd hurdle along the way, but don’t give up. Stay with it.

Work hard, as hard work will pay off.

Be honest with yourself and your customers. This is really important when carrying out jobs for other

people. Also be honest about your targets and what you want to get out of being on the marketplace.

“Once I’ve got around £100,000 tucked away in savings, I’d love to put some money towards helping other people improve their lives.”

How does Airtasker work?

There are all sorts of ways you can make some extra money on the site, including cleaning, cooking, gardening, dog walking, pet sitting, tennis coaching, furniture assembly and other handyman jobs.

Once you’re signed up, you can look at the jobs available and choose which ones you want to pick up. Build up a bank of five-star reviews, and you get the option to bid for the higher-paid tasks.

As an Airtasker, you can opt to do as many – or as few – jobs as you like, depending on what you have on.

To get an idea of how much you could potentially earn by completing certain tasks in a week, check out Airtasker’s Side Hustle Calculator.

If you want to check out other sites which work in a similar way, take a look at Taskrabbit.

What about tax?

Under current rules, you can earn up to £1,000 from a side hustle in a tax year without paying tax.

But once you breach this threshold, you must declare that income and pay tax on it.

To do this, you will need to complete a self-assessment return.

The amount you need to pay will depend on how much you already earn.

HMRC wants to ensure sellers who boost their earnings with a side hustle are correctly reporting their income on their tax returns – and paying what they owe.

If you’re not sure whether your additional income could be taxable, search ‘online platform income’ on Gov.uk.

If you need help, Airtasker recommends speaking to a tax expert.

As a “tasker,” it’s also advisable to keep a record of all the jobs you do.

The help comes via the Household Support Fund (HSF), a giant pool of money worth £421million.

A number of councils are still handing out help to residents in need[/caption]

The cash has been shared between councils in England who then have to distribute their share to hard-up residents.

That means what you are entitled to depends on where you live, although in most cases you will qualify for help if you’re on a low income or benefits.

The latest round runs until March 31, after which point it will be extended and run between April and March 2026.

While a lot of local authorities have allocated their share of the latest round of funding, some still haven’t and are offering a range of help.

Some are handing out free cash while others are distributing supermarket or energy vouchers.

Here are all the councils we could find still distributing support.

Bear in mind, your local council might still be handing out help even if they’re not in our list below.

So, if you’re on benefits like Universal Credit or have low savings or a income, speak to your council to see if any help is at hand.

You can find what council area you fall under by visiting www.gov.uk/find-local-council.

Camden Council

Camden Council, in London, is still offering payments worth £500 to households struggling to pay for essentials.

The local authority also issued supermarket and Post Office vouchers worth up to £300 to residents in need through its latest round.

Camden Council says it is giving the £500 payments to people in an “emergency financial situation”.

The deadline to apply for the payments is March 31.

To apply, you need to register for the council’s Money Advice Service via www.camden.gov.uk/refer-yourself-for-money-advice-and-support or call 020 7974 4444.

Visit www.camden.gov.uk/hsf for more details.

Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council is giving hard up households free cash payments worth up to £200.

The local authority is making the payments to those living in the area and experiencing “financial hardship”, particularly those struggling to cover the cost of food and energy.

You also can’t have received help via the HSF in the last 12 months.

For example, if you received a £200 payment on May 31, 2024, you cannot make another application until June 1, 2025.

The deadline to submit any applications is March 31, which can be done via www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/50274/cost_of_living_support/2497/household_support_fund_2024_to_2025.

If your application is successful, you’ll be contacted within four weeks to complete the application process.

Ealing Council

Ealing Council, in west London, is distributing supermarket vouchers worth up to £100 to households in need.

Families with children in an Ealing school and qualifying for benefits-related free school meals are getting £30 per child.

That means those with three children are eligible for £90 worth of vouchers.

Families with children under the age of five on housing benefit and/or council tax reduction are eligible for £30 per household.

Meanwhile, care leavers are qualify for supermarket vouchers worth £100.

The vouchers will be sent automatically via email or letter from the council’s partner Blackhawk.

These will contain a 16-digit personalised code and instructions to redeem the vouchers.

You can find out more via www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201103/benefits_and_financial_support_3043/household_support_fund.

Woking Borough Council

However, between February 1 and now the fund is open to general applications from residents who are on a means-tested benefit and struggling with food or fuel costs.

You also can’t have received help from a previous round of the HSF.

You can find out more via www.woking.gov.uk/costofliving.

Westmoreland and Furness Council

Westmoreland and Furness Council is still accepting applications, but only until March 31.

Residents struggling to pay for food, energy bills or other essentials can apply.

Specifically, the council said anyone on a low income or without access to other financial support should get in touch.

The council is helping residents to cover the cost of white goods, furniture, carpets, clothing and more.

You an apply online via www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/household-support-fund.

Salford City Council

Salford City Council is handing out help to vulnerable households to cover essentials like food and energy.

The council says you don’t need to be receiving benefits to apply, however you will need to provide evidence you don’t have enough money to pay for food, fuel or energy.

Any support is issued via vouchers not cash payments.

You can apply by calling the council’s helpline on 0800 011 3998. To find out more visit www.salford.gov.uk/advice-and-support/household-support-fund.

Bear in mind, if you live in Salford and have already had help through this round of the scheme, you won’t qualify for help for a second time.

South Tyneside Council

South Tyneside Council is offering pensioners on a low income payments worth £200.

These are being issued to those just above the threshold for Pension Credit who missed out on the Winter Fuel Payment.

The Winter Fuel Payment was means-tested last winter rather than universal meaning only those on certain benefits qualified for it.

If you’re a pensioner and think you’re eligible for one of the payments, the deadline to apply is March 24.

You can do this through Age Concern South Tyneside, Citizens Advice or the council’s Welfare Support Team.

More details can be found via www.southtyneside.gov.uk/article/25969/household-support-fund.

Household Support Fund explained

Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains what you need to know about the Household Support Fund.

If you’re battling to afford energy and water bills, food or other essential items and services, the Household Support Fund can act as a vital lifeline.

The financial support is a little-known way for struggling families to get extra help with the cost of living.

Every council in England has been given a share of £421million cash by the government to distribute to local low income households.

Each local authority chooses how to pass on the support. Some offer vouchers whereas others give direct cash payments.

In many instances, the value of support is worth hundreds of pounds to individual families.

Just as the support varies between councils, so does the criteria for qualifying.

Many councils offer the help to households on selected benefits or they may base help on the level of household income.

The key is to get in touch with your local authority to see exactly what support is on offer.

The current round runs until the end of March 2025, but has been extended.

The next round will run between April 2025 and March 2026.

Richard Hammond’s daughter Izzy splashes out on very fast £50k Mercedes – and dents it within one hour

RICHARD Hammond’s daughter Izzy is following in her dad’s petrol-head footsteps and splashed out £50K on her first performance car.

The podcast host, who describes her career as “sometimes I do some driving, sometimes I chat”, showcased the bright white Mercedes in a new Instagram post and YouTube video.

Yet she swiftly suffered a dent in the door an hour in[/caption]

In her YouTube clip, 24-year-old Izzy told fans: “My new Mercedes is fast, but theres a very easy way to make it faster.”

She then showcased a black box racechip, from Race Chip Tuning, which added huge power as she navigated the twists and turns of the Cheddar Gorge.

Izzy could be seen with her eyes wide in delight as she squealed her way around the tricky rural route, shouting: “That’s a serious corner!”

Yet as she pulled up after her journey with video co-star Mike, she spotted a blemish on the motor just an hour in.

She had dented the bottom of the passenger-side door, with the mark clearly seen on camera.

After the video of her hair-raising route was posted to the DRIVETRIBE YouTube channel, owned by her father and his former Top Gear co-stars James May and Jeremy Clarkson, one fan was quick to post: “Denting your car the first time you drive it. What a Hammond thing to do.”

Another fan put: “Came to Drivetribe for Richard but stayed for Izzy. Been great watching her car journey and can’t wait to see what she does with her new car.”

A third mused: “Izzy has gone from kind of interested in cars to a full blown petrol head and I think we are all here for it haha.”

One then added: “Just after Izzy put the dent in it: ‘And on that bombshell, it’s time to end.'”

A viewer then quipped: “I see crashing on corners is an inherited genetic trait.”

On her personal Instagram page, she uploaded a selection of snaps showing her first journey and put: “Made a big girl purchase.

“Video up on @drivetribe all about the choice and my enormous (and possibly a tad farfetched) plans for mods. It’s going to be an animal”

She then added: “Once I’ve fixed the dent I immediately created on hour 1 of ownership.”

Izzy is Richard’s eldest daughter and has previously featured on the driving channel.

The pair also both both co-present Who Are We Now.

The hit series dives into men’s mental health issues and how to successfully raise children in the modern day.

FAMILY CHANGE

Yet their own family unit was rocked when Richard and his wife Mindy split in January.

It was then reported how Mindy had “kicked him out to sleep in the castle’s barn” as they navigated the break-up.

The couple then released a statement which said: “A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.

“Our marriage is coming to end, but we’ve had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.

“We will always be in each other’s lives and are proud of the family we created.

“We won’t be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy”.

Izzy then promptly branded her dad an “idiot” and said he “wasn’t there much” during his marriage split.
