Visitors to popular Scottish tourist destination to be hit with parking charges for the first time
VISITORS to a popular Scottish tourist spot are set to be hit with parking charges for the first time.
Plans to introduce the charges at Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch have now been approved.

We previously told how the centre’s chiefs lodged plans with West Dunbartonshire Council to erect barriers at the entrance.
Bosses said it was a “difficult decision” as it looked to impose parking charges from spring this year.
And this week the proposals were given the go-ahead by Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Planning Authority, the Lennox Herald reports.
Four pole-mounted cameras for automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) will be installed.
Two barriers, pay on exit machines and pay and display machines with shelters will also be put in place.
Parking will cost 50p for 30 minutes, £1 for two hours, £2 for four hours, and £4 for all day.
Research showed that 75 per cent of visitors stay for an hour and 45 minutes, management stated.
A Loch Lomond Shores spokesperson previously said: “It has been a difficult decision to make as we understand that free parking is a popular part of our offering for our visitors.
“However, after much research, analysis and discussion, their introduction is a necessity to maintain and improve the visitor experience here at Loch Lomond Shores going forward.
“Our site covers 44 acres and has a diverse environment including woodland, beaches, large external pedestrian areas, walkways, playpark and retail buildings – all of which require constant specialist maintenance year-round.
“Our team works hard to maintain all of this but, the cost of maintenance, repairs and improvements has sky-rocketed post-COVID and, if we want to continue being a high-quality visitor attraction, we must find a way to fund all of these going forward.
“So, while this decision has been difficult, it is a way of safeguarding its future and allows us to continue to not only maintain but improve what we offer our visitors.”
Loch Lomond Shores is home to scores of shops and eateries, including Frasers, Sports Direct, Tweeds of Scotland, Loch Lomond Jewellers, Jurassic Grill, and Cafe Zest.
The venue, around 30 minutes from Glasgow, also boasts stunning views over the iconic loch.

It’s never easy to be the owner of TikTok. ByteDance, the company that owns the social media platform, has always had to navigate the muddy waters of being banned from many jurisdictions. So its prospective ban in the US isn’t exactly new territory for the social media giant. There is one new dimension, though. While […]

Scott Snyder: I Wrote Absolute Batman Because “I’m writing Bruce facing fears I have for my kids, for them”
The world of comic book superheroes and villains is changing, and people are changing with the running trends. From violence to rallying behind anti-heroes, the world of heroes and villains has grown really broad. That’s where the gray area comes in. The area where the majority of the world lives, and the area where the […]

RTE star Laura Fox admits her grandmother ‘keeps her grounded’ and ‘doesn’t hold back’ after criticising wedding dress
RTE star Laura Fox’s grandmother “keeps her grounded” and “doesn’t hold back” with her opinions on the radio star’s possible wedding dress.
The Galway woman announced her engagement to her long-time beau Brian Moran last August.

Laura and her fiancé, who have been together for almost a decade, have decided to exchange their vows in Italy next year.
The 2FM host has been busy planning the big day and told The Irish Sun: “The wedding’s all booked. It’s all done, it’s all good to go.
“But it’s not until August next year.”
Laura went wedding dress shopping at Verona Bridal in Belfast last month and made sure to get her grandmother Nono’s honest opinion on the gowns.
The 34-year-old revealed: “She’s a massive supporter. She’s incredibly proud but she’s not afraid to tell me when I’m wrong.
“She does a debrief all the time. Even when I was going out to Dancing With The Stars last week, she debriefed my outfit for that the following day. And she won’t hold back.
“If she doesn’t like something, she will let me know about it. Even trying on wedding dresses last week, I’d send her some options of things I knew that I was never going to pick.
“I nearly sent it as rage bait to see what her reaction was going to be.
“And she called me 30 seconds later [saying], ‘What were you thinking in that thing?’, which is exactly what I need around me.
“My mum is the same. I just know that they’ll always keep me nice and grounded, and I’ll never get a notion about myself because it won’t happen.”
And it looks like there’s no chance of Laura turning into a bridezilla anytime soon.
Speaking about her wedding dress shopping experience, she said: “I loved it. I loved every single second. But I’m in no rush. I think that plays a big part of it.
“I can understand how it would be stressful for someone if you were up against a deadline of trying to get a lead time and ordering it in because you add wedding in front of everything and suddenly, there’s a lot of zeros and there’s about six months of lead time.
“But I think for me, because we’ve got time, I have a fairly good idea of exactly what I want. So going in, I was like, ‘This is so much fun’.
“And I’ll make an event out of anything. So we went for brunch beforehand. They give you a champagne when you walk in the door. I was like, ‘I’ll stay here all day’.”
The popular presenter has been on the hunt to buy a house with her fiancé for quite some time and has described the process as “bleak”.
She said: “It’s bleak at the minute. But it’s fine. Look, we’re in the same position as absolutely everybody else. And I just think we can’t dwell on what we don’t have.
“I like where we’re living right now, I like where we’re renting. We’ve been there for the last four years. We’re constantly on the lookout for something in our price range.
“If it comes up, it comes up. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”
Laura has been announced as the host of the Platinum VIP Style Awards 2025.
The 34-year-old will be welcoming the most fashionable celebs on what will be the awards’ 22nd birthday, on May 23 at the lavish InterContinental Hotel, Dublin.
