Met Eireann warn of ‘heavy’ showers & thunderstorms TODAY as Ireland braces for temps to fall to -1C & freeze pinpointed

IRELAND is bracing for “heavy, thundery” showers to batter before temperatures plummet to a freezing -1C.

Met Eireann has promised “sunny spells” will hit Ireland this week but warned conditions will be “far from dry”.

It will be a “blustery day” today across the country, with showers gradually building throughout the day.

Met Eireann confirmed that Ireland can expect “good spells of sunshine” at first, but “widespread heavy showers” will move in towards the afternoon.

Met Eireann’s Aoife Kealy added: “Some of those will be of hail, with scattered thunderstorms possible.

“Those showers will ease a little again towards evening.

“Highs today 9C to 12C in moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds.”

And weighing in on today’s forecast Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said: “A few showers this morning but good bright spells developing before cloud and showers increase around lunchtime.

“Some heavy thundery local downpours are possible.”

Tonight will see “heavy” showers in the west and north with hail and isolated thundery storms still possible.

There will be long clear and dry spells further east and south in 1C to 7C temperatures.

Tomorrow will be another mix of sunshine and “heavy” showers.

Showers will be confined to the western half of the country in the morning but will become more widespread as the day moves on.

There is still a chance for some of those showers to present as hail on Tuesday.

Daytime temperatures will sit at highs of 7C to 10C, while overnight there will be lows of 1C to 4C.

And again a mix of heavy downpours and some hail through the night.

‘COLD’ NIGHT

Wednesday will take a colder turn with temperatures dropping right down overnight.

Scattered showers will fall throughout the day with sunnier spells dotted through.

Highs during the day will sit at 6C to 9C but it will be quite breezy with northwesterly winds building.

Overnight Wednesday then temperatures will drop below freezing.

Met Eireann advised: “A cold and largely dry night with clear spells, though isolated showers will continue in parts of the west and north.

“Westerly winds will ease light to moderate with lowest temperatures of -1C to +3C.

It will be mostly dry and bright on Thursday with just a few “well scattered” showers.

And temperatures will be back up to 7C to 10C after the plummet into the minuses on Wednesday night.

Friday will start dry and sunny with just isolated showers, however it will turn cloudier later in the day.

And rain will be possible on western coasts towards evening.

Brit found dead in Costa del Sol marina after Spanish cops pull lifeless body from water ‘where he owned boat’

A BRITISH man has been found dead in the water at a Costa del Sol marina.

Firefighters spent around an hour recovering his body after it was spotted between boats at popular Duquesa Port near Estepona around 4.30am on Sunday.

Emergency responders could not save the man, said to be aged around 60, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Civil Guard officers are probing the circumstances surrounding the Brit’s death.

It is believed the man, who was fully-clothed, owned a boat in the marina.

Well-placed sources said there were no obvious signs of any injuries pointing to a crime having taken place.

But a post-mortem that could reveal more details is due to take place.

A spokesman for the force said: “I can confirm the dead man is British.

“The death is still being investigated but at this stage everything is pointing to it being an accident.”

A spokesman for a regional government-run emergency response coordination centre said late yesterday: “The emergency services have recovered the lifeless body of a man found in the water at La Duquesa port in the municipality of Manilva.

“The alarm was raised just before 4.30am on Sunday.

“Local police, Civil Guard and firefighters were among the emergency responders mobilised.

“The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In January a British man’s body was found floating in the water at a marina in Calpe north of Benidorm following a suspected accident.

He was described at the time as a 53-year-old who had moored a boat he lived on in the pleasure port after arriving from the nearby town of Altea.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Alicante said at the time: “I can confirm we have recovered the body of a 53-year-old British man from the water at Calpe port.

“We were informed by an emergency response coordination centre around 9.40am yesterday and mobilised specialist divers from our GEAS unit.

“There was nothing we could do to save him. He was already dead by the time police divers reached him.”

La Duquesa port is between Sotogrande to the west and Estepona to the east, filled with bars and restaurants.

Actress Jessica, 38, has been enjoying a lot of success after playing stalker Martha in Baby Reindeer.

Last night was no different, and the talented actress scooped the gong for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.

Accepting her award, Jessica said “Wow, thank you so much. Wow. I feel like such a lucky bunny to even be in this room, let alone be nominated or up here, honestly.”

She continued: “When I first started acting, I had an office job alongside acting for about eight years.

“It’s a very geeky thing to admit but in the mornings I used to go into work and look at a PowerPoint presentation, it was like a positive thinking vision board of all the things that I wanted to do and the people I wanted to meet or work with.”

Jessica was up against fellow nominees, Kathy Bates (The Great Lillian Hall), Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country), Lily Gladstone (Under The Bridge), and Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) for the award.

The star went on to thank those who had worked with her on Baby Reindeer, including creator and co-star Richard Gadd.

“Thank you to everybody involved in Baby Reindeer for changing my life, thank you to Richard Gadd for making my dreams come true, I will never ever forget Baby Reindeer or playing the part of Martha,” she said.

“Thank you to my team and my family back home, I love you and cannot wait to celebrate with you.”

Concluding her speech, she said: “Honestly, genuinely, this means the world to me so thank you so much.”

Earlier in the evening, Jessica had wowed on the red carpet in her floor length black gown.

She was joined by fellow Brits Millie Bobby Brown and Cynthia Eviro.

Both actresses looked equally stunning in their dresses, as they flew the flag for Britain.

It was also a good night for Irish actor Colin Farrell who won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor.

“I have to thank my sister who I’ve worked with for 22 years,” he said in his acceptance speech.
