‘Beautiful’ girl, 12, died after limp turned out to be ‘aggressive’ tumour in her pelvis

THE parents of a 12-year-old girl who died from an “aggressive” tumour said her diagnosis was a “bolt from the blue” after her relatively healthy childhood.

Keen runner Poppi Frisby’s shock cancer diagnosis came after she developed a limp that was initially unexplained.

Tests led to Poppi’s diagnosis of Ewing carcinoma[/caption]

But investigations led to a diagnosis of Ewing carcinoma – a type of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the bones and the soft tissue around the bones.

The “aggressive” tumour was in her pelvis and her spread to her lungs.

“It broke our hearts, and I struggled to accept it,” said Poppi’s dad, Ian Frisby, 66, from Peterborough.

“It was such an overwhelming shock and like being hit by a bus.

“I remember we were ushered into a room at the hospital. Three nurses and several consultants came in, and we obviously knew something was very wrong.

“They told us Poppi had cancer and it hit us for six, as it would any parents.

“However, we looked at each other and vowed to take it one day at a time.”

Poppi was diagnosed in October 2022, and, soon after, the family were referred to East Anglia’s Children Hospices (EACH).

Despite initial concern, it proved a game-changer, and Poppi’s parents, Ian and Sam, say they will forever be thankful for the support they received, along with daughters Rubi, 15, and Daizi, 12.

“EACH was mentioned soon after the diagnosis, but I was scared and reluctant to start with,” said Ian.

“To me, the word ‘hospice’ meant one thing – death. I was in denial and didn’t want to listen.

“Initially, I fought and resisted the idea but eventually agreed to go.

“Poppi did an art activity while we were shown around, and, from that moment, my opinion and world changed.

“Far from being dark and depressing, I realised the hospice was the most beautiful place, full of the warmest, most amazing people – people I respect so much.

“There was no pressure to do anything we didn’t want to do. No-one questioned or judged us or made us feel uncomfortable.

“Instead, the care team told us they were there to look after us.

“It was all about us, ensuring we had maximum time to make precious memories, and their kindness and support was remarkable.”

Sadly, Poppi died in February 2024 after a 16-month battle with the disease.

Ian and Sam, who also have three older daughters, Sapphire, 27, Chrystal, 25, and Jasmin, 21, believe Poppi might have died before last February, had it not been for the exceptional care she received.

The family stayed at the hospice twice, including for end-of-life care, and attended other events, including EACH’s 2023 Christmas Winter Wonderland.

“It gave her the spirit to fight on, giving us extra time to create so many beautiful memories, like pieces of artwork and hand prints,” said Sam.

“No-one can take them away from us, and, for that, we’ll always be grateful.

“The last couple of years have been truly dreadful, but it would have been so much worse without EACH. It’s unimaginable, and I don’t think we’d have coped.”

“Poppi was so funny, and everyone adored her,” said milkman Ian.

“She was a beautiful young girl with a fun, sometimes mischievous and sassy personality.

“She said it how it was, and it was tricky getting her to do things she didn’t want to do. However, she loved people and was so respectful of everyone she met.

“She had a heart of gold and enjoyed life, despite the challenges she faced towards the end.”

What is Ewing carcinoma?

Ewing sarcoma is a rare type of bone cancer that commonly affects people who are 10 to 20 years old.

It most commonly develops in the:

  • pelvis bone (hips)
  • thigh bone (femur)
  • shin bone (tibia)

The symptoms of Ewing sarcoma depend on the size of the cancer and where it is in the body.

The main symptoms are pain in the affected area that gets progressively worse, and swelling and tenderness.

Other possible, but less common, symptoms may include a high temperature (fever), severe tiredness and weight loss.

In some cases of Ewing sarcoma, there may not be any symptoms at all.

But as the tumour grows it could weaken the affected bone, increasing the risk of fracture.

‘I’m a tiny bit scared’ reveals Doireann Garrihy as DWTS host kicks off new RTE 2FM show with surprise ‘star guest’

DOIREANN Garrihy has kicked off her brand new show on RTE 2FM today with an “Irish star” making a surprise appearance.

The popular presenter departed the 2FM Breakfast Show back in May after five years working on the radio programme.

Today, just nine months and one wedding later, she has returned with her new show, 2FM Drive with Doireann Garrihy.

The 3pm to 6pm slot was previously hosted by The 2 Johnnies, who left the station in a shock departure last May.

Returning to the airwaves today for the first time on her new show, the 32-year-old exclaimed: “Oh my goodness, we’re live.”

As she began, a number of people in the 2FM studio began to cheer and clap for the radio star.

She continued: “It is Monday, February 24. It is 3:06pm, I may have rented a crowd. I may have asked them to give me a little clap in the background, because I was a tiny bit scared just to get up and running.

“But we have so much to get through on the show today until six o’clock. And actually, there’s one thing I’m really, really excited about.

“As a team, we put the feelers out there today to see if anyone in particular might want to maybe intro the show. And they asked a few Irish stars, and we couldn’t believe that we got a response from this person, in particular.

“Anyway, look, I’m just gonna hand it over to him.”

Doireann then proceeded to imitate Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty, wishing her well on her new show.

Mimicking the RTE TV host, she told listeners: “Folks, yes, I am delighted to be the chosen one to introduce the very first 2FM Drive show with Doireann Garrihy.

“Now you may remember last May, a sad day for 2FM when Doireann left the building, but hey presto, she only got as far as the car park where she did a few doughnuts, then a U-turn, and came right back in.

“During her time away, she rediscovered sleep, exercise and became the only person in Ireland to ever get married.

“How do you know Doireann Garrihy has done literally anything? She tells you about it. Which, now that I think about it, makes a great radio presenter.”

She added: “Now it’s been about 42 seconds since I took a breath, so I’m gonna hand you back to the woman herself before I collapse on to this flight. Have a good show.”

GOT TO GO

Shifting it up a gear, Doireann then got ready to start her show with Chappell Roan’s Hot To Go.

Before coming back to the airwaves today, Doireann was a guest on last Friday’s Late Late Show.

Down comic Patrick was joined at the top of the show by Doireann where she reflected on her decision to return to RTE 2FM.

She said: “I had done four years of breakfast, ten years of kind of mad busyness, and I just needed a bit of a break, and so I took a leap of faith and took a break.

“I never could have anticipated how much I would miss it. I knew I would miss it. I just didn’t think I would miss it as much with the year as it was kind of planned out. I knew what I had coming up. I was obviously getting married.”

Heidi Klum rocks just see-through red lingerie as she stands against Las Vegas hotel window in post-date night photo

HEIDI Klum looked sensational as she rocked see-through red lingerie and stood against a Las Vegas hotel window recently.

The 51-year-old model enjoyed a date night with her husband Tom Kaulitz, and popped the lovely lingerie look on for the occasion.

The cheeky snap was taken by Heidi’s partner Tom Kaulitz[/caption]

Heidi threw her head back against the window pane, letting her blonde locks cascade down, and shut her eyes in the sultry photo.

She could be seen wearing a red bra and thong, and pushed her bum against the window.

Wowing in suspenders, the model was sure to show off her incredible figure for the racy snap.

And Vegas was her backdrop, with the iconic Sphere seen in the photo.

Heidi revealed that the photographer behind it all was none other than her husband Tom, 35.

She was seen in a separate shot walking down the hallway of a hotel in a sensational black dress and heels.

Clutching her bag in one hand and a cocktail in the other, the star showed off her long pins as she walked.

It comes as Heidi’s daughter Leni has been seen to be following in her famous mum’s footsteps, doing some modelling of her own.

In November, German model Heidi and her daughter, 20, bared-all, posing next to each other wearing lace lingerie for underwear brand Intimissimi.

And this isn’t the first time the duo have posed together wearing next to nothing.

This first started back in 2022, when Heidi was 49, and Leni, who is the daughter of billionaire Formula One boss Flavio Briatore, was a teenager.

Previously, some fans rushed comments on the mum and daughter posing in lingerie together, with one writing: “Which normal mum would pose together with her daughter in lingerie?”

While another posted: “Cringe and weird. Would never do this with mum.”

But Heidi continues to shrug off the trolls, by even getting her mum Erna, 80, involved in the most recent Intimissimi ad.

Leni, who has an estimated net worth of around £3 million, has racked up a huge fanbase in her own right.

On Instagram, she is followed by 1.8million people, often posting about her fabulous life and her modelling gigs.

Leni’s dreams became reality when she graced the cover of  Vogue Germany alongside her superstar mum at just 16.

“It’s absolutely bonkers that my first job was a Vogue cover, and having Mum by my side made it an absolute joy.

“It was such a brilliant day. I wasn’t nervous in the slightest, just brimming with excitement,” says Leni.

Heidi’s latest modelling snaps come as her America’s Got Talent replacement was recently named – after it was revealed that the star wouldn’t be returning for the series.

She is being replaced by Spice Girl Mel B for the 20th series of the show, which airs this Spring.

A rep for AGT production said in a statement: “Heidi has been an incredible part of AGT, bringing her signature charm, expertise and warmth to the show.

“We are enormously grateful for her many contributions and the impact she has had while celebrating the world’s greatest talent with us. We’d love for our paths to cross again.”

Neymar ‘tells fans to boo LOUDER’ before scoring direct from corner and copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic celebration

NEYMAR scored a stunning goal-of the-year candidate with a direct corner-kick after trolling rival fans who booed him.

The Santos star proved he’s still got it after a miserable, injury-stricken two year-year stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.

The star forward led the Brazilian giants to a 3-0 win at Internacional de Limeira on Sunday.

The Brazil international took on a corner-kick down the left and was met by loud boos from the home fans.

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain star, though, refused to let the Internacional supporters get to him.

So Neymar returned the favour by sarcastically urging them to jeer louder before taking on the set piece.

And the Brazilian rubbed it in even more by reminding his foes of his true class and scoring a staggering Olimpico.

The Barcelona legend then copied former Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic celebration.

The 33-year-old casually sat on the advertising boards with his arms crossed – just like Ronaldo – following all the hate he received from the opposing fans at the Estadio Major Jose Levy Sobrinho.

He also set up both of Tiquinho Soares’ goals to seal another dominant performance with Pedro Caixinha’s side.

Neymar now counts two goals and three assists in six appearances since his emotional return to Santos in January.

The versatile winger has already amassed more goals than his total tally with Al-Hilal, where he played seven times across the last two seasons.

Neymar counts a grand total of 138 goals and 67 assists in 231 appearances across two stints with Santos, from where he left in 2013 for Barcelona after a glittering four-year stint.
