DAN ASHWORTH has found a new role in a new sport after leaving Manchester United in December.
Ashworth, 53, left his role as sporting director with the Red Devils just five months after being appointed last year.
The former Newcastle United and Brighton director had been a long-term target for Man Utd as they began their new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
But after a lengthy battle to secure his services, and over £3million in compensation payments to Newcastle, Ashworth was out of the door after less than half a year.
And now the ex-FA director has found himself a new job, somewhere far away from Man Utd and football as a whole.
Ashworth has taken up an advisory role with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, according to The Times.
He has been involved with the cricket club since 2021, having held an honorary role on their audit committee for over three years.
That role is said to have involved oversight of what Warwickshire call their “elite teams and high-performance structure”.
Warwickshire are also set to announce a new performance director in the coming days.
However, Ashworth is understood to not be in consideration for that role.

It’s reported that the salary on offer for the role would fall well short of the money he has made through his previous jobs in football.
Instead Ashworth will work as a voluntary advisor.
Last week it was revealed Man Utd had spent £4.1MILLION on Ashworth’s exit from the club, in a report of the club’s accounts.
United also confirmed that they had spent £10.4MILLION on the sacking of manager Erik ten Hag and his team.
CARLA WARD will be looking to make it two wins from two as Republic of Ireland boss when they face Slovenia in the Nations League.
The new Girls in Green gaffer got her tenure off to an ideal – if imperfect – start with a 1-0 win over Turkey in Tallaght on Friday night.
Here’s everything you need to know about the match.
Slovenia vs the Republic of Ireland takes place on Tuesday, February 25 at the Bonifika Stadium in Koper.
Kick-off is at the earlier time of 5pm Irish time.
The game will be shown live on RTE 2, with coverage starting at 4:30pm.
Those who are on the move or seeking to live stream the game can do so through the RTE Player.
Leanne Kiernan will not be involved on Tuesday evening after the Liverpool star suffered a calf injury.
It will be a landmark evening for two Ireland players, however.
Captain Katie McCabe will win her 95th cap, inching her ever closer to becoming Ireland’s latest centurion.
Denise O’Sullivan, meanwhile, will win her 121st – putting her joint-second on the all-time appearance list alongside Louise Quinn.
Ireland, being 14 places above Slovenia in the FIFA rankings, are 6/10 favourites to come away with the three points.
The hosts, meanwhile, are priced at 7/2 while the draw is valued at 12/5.
While victorious against Turkey, Ireland were far from perfect, with Carla Ward admitting there is room for improvement.
However, she urged her players to show belief in themselves and not to be afraid to take risks on Tuesday evening.
Ward told RTE: “It’s my job to get these guys to believe. Like I keep saying, they’re good footballers, good people, we want to make sure that they feel comfortable, confident.
“We dominated the ball, we dominated every stat and I think it’s important that we can continue to talk about those moments.
“Because the more they can believe they can take the ball, that they can play, that they have our backing, that if they make mistakes then that’s okay… it’s my job to try and calm that chaos.
“It’s something we’ve done a bit of work on in the last couple of days. The system will never change with me.
“I have a very clear way of playing, the players can see that.
“It’s trying to continue getting those messages in but we are going to try and look at something that will allow us to create more because we didn’t create enough (on Friday).
“We looked at it, five shots in the first half, none in the second. That’s an area that we’ve focused a lot of our work on the last couple of days both on and off the pitch.”

TV PRESENTER Rachel Riley has announced she will be taking a short break from Countdown.
The show’s co-presenter, 39, has been temporarily replaced by YouTuber Dr Tom Crawford – here’s what we know about him.
Dr Tom Crawford is a YouTuber and maths expert who boasts more than 200,000 subscribers on his channel as of February 2025.
The whizz also lectures Applied Mathematics at Cambridge’s Robinson College.
His comprehensive videos where he prides himself on making ‘elite mathematics teaching available to everyone’ have clocked up millions of views on social media.
Dr Tom is currently deputising for Rachel Riley until the end of March 2025 and will feature alongside host Colin Murray as well as lexicographer and dictionary corner star, Susie Dent.
To prepare for his stint on Countdown, he spent time shadowing Rachel in the studio.
He first appeared on our screens on Monday, February 24, 2025
Speaking about joining the show, he said: “COUNTDOWN. Still can’t believe this happened, but you will now be able to watch me attempting to do maths live on television for the next 3 weeks, starting Monday at 2:10pm on Channel 4.
“Rachel Riley – and her unparalleled arithmetic skills – are irreplaceable, but with Colin Murray and Susie Dent by my side, we’ll do our very best to keep you entertained for the next few weeks.
“Long live daytime television!!”
Rachel Riley is a television presenter.
The broadcaster obtained a second-class degree in applied maths at Oriel College, Oxford.
She currently co-presents the Channel 4 daytime puzzle show Countdown and its comedy spin-off 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
Rachel joined the former in 2009, having taken over from Carol Vorderman who departed in 2008.
She also featured on a contestant on the BBC celebrity dance show Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.
There, she was partnered with her future husband Pasha Kovalev.
The couple married in June 2019 and have two daughters together.
Discussing Tom, Rachel told Metro: “Countdown viewers are in great hands with Tom, who is a brilliant Mathematician and a lovely guy.
“He’s also used to people commenting on the clothes he wears (or lack of them) on his show so I am sure he will take to the role like a duck to water.”
Dr Tom added: “All of my work online is about sharing my love of Maths with the world whilst trying to make it accessible for everyone.
“Countdown has been doing that for a generation, so it really is a dream come true to be joining this iconic show to cover Rachel.
“I may even have to get another tattoo to commemorate the event.”
AN iconic noughties TV series is returning with its original host as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The series – which launched in 2000 – ran for just three series but became a major hit.
Dom Joly is returning to Trigger Happy TV for a special UK tour for its milestone anniversary.
The hidden camera show saw Dom, 57, portray a number of hilarious characters – from a traffic warden, the giant snail and of course his giant mobile phone.
He let slip the big plans on BBC Radio yesterday, before a live theatre tour was officially announced.
It will run for just four dates, kicking off at the Townhall in Birmingham before finishing in Adelphi Theatre, London later this year.
Announcing the tour, promoters Live Nation teased: “Fans will experience beloved moments from the show, including The Giant Snail, The Traffic Warden, The Morris Dancer, The Scout, A Gang of Squirrels, and THAT Big Mobile Phone.
“Dom will share behind-the-scenes stories and insights on how these unforgettable moments came to life. But the surprises don’t stop there – this is live theatre, and fans can expect the unexpected.
“Have you ever wondered what happened to The Traffic Warden or The Scout? Now’s your chance to find out.”
O2 ticket pre-sale will begin on Wednesday, 26th February at 10am, while general sale kicks off this Friday at 10am on Ticketmaster.
Meanwhile, the news comes days after Dom revealed the iconic original mobile phone had been stolen.
It had seemingly been on loan to a pop-up museum in Amsterdam when the ‘theft’ occurred.
Dom issued a public appeal to trace the iconic prop, while denying it was a stunt to promote the new tour.
He said: “I don’t think the Dutch police are taking it that seriously at the moment. I’ve talked to them and they just think that someone has wandered off with a plastic phone, so I don’t think they really get the gravity of the situation.
“The museum has reported it to them and I’m speaking to them on Monday but I don’t really know what’s happening. I’m not holding out much hope for it.”
Tuesday 7 October – Town Hall, Birmingham
Thursday 9 October – The Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow
Sunday 12 October – Aviva Studios, Manchester

THE Chase’s Paul Sinha insisted the ITV game show ‘won’t survive’ if a particular star was to quit.
Since 2009, viewers have watched members of the public face quiz geniuses – the Chasers – hoping to win thousands of pounds.
Paul, known as “The Sinnerman”, believes The Chase wouldn’t last without its revered host Bradley Walsh.
The 54-year-old told Stuff in an interview: “Perhaps most importantly of all, we never forget that it is an entertainment show and to that end we are blessed with Bradley Walsh, one of the brightest stars of the light entertainment firmament.
“I think there are some shows that can’t survive without that particular host.
“Should Bradley Walsh, as he will do eventually, decide that his acting career comes first, The Chase won’t survive.”
Comedian and qualified doctor Paul joined The Chase in 2011 and is currently one of six Chasers.
Another key member is Mark “The Beast” Labbett, who has been a Chaser from the beginning.
Mark, 59, recently called out show bosses after fans slammed the ITV series as “boring” and unwatchable”.
Fellow Chaser Shaun Wallace, 64, took out a team of contestants with eight seconds remaining.
In a show first, all four contestants had opted to play for a lower offer of £1,000.
Shaun managed to catch one of them, Jade, meaning the remaining trio were playing for a £3,000 jackpot.
However, they only racked up 15 correct answers and failed to capitalise on any pushbacks.
A viewer wrote on X: “Today’s team the most boring ever.
“What’s the point of going on a quiz show and happy with minimal amounts of money.
“Shame as I used to love the programme.”
While Mark wrote: “With hindsight maybe the producers should have a put a stronger player in the team.”
One fan replied: “Maybe the producers need to get their heads together and sort all this out.

“It’s been a long time now that people have complained on here about bad shows.
“They’re going to stop watching if they’re not careful. Today’s show is abysmal. Have a word Mark will you? X”
He then tagged the quiz fan and directly replied: “A written complaint to the producers would be far more effective imo.”
The Chase continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto has long been blamed for his handling of romance within the series.
