CORK CITY star Cathal O’Sullivan should be back within weeks after suffering an opening-day knee injury against Galway United.
Winger O’Sullivan, 17, was not included in the City line-up that was due to face Shamrock Rovers in Sunday’s postponed fixture.
But Rebels boss Tim Clancy confirmed that initial results were positive.
And while the teenager will likely miss Friday’s clash with Bohemians and Monday’s trip to Waterford, he will be back in action soon.
Clancy said: “Cathal got a knock on his knee and he had a scan. The initial results have come back and they are positive, it’s not a long-term issue.
“We are having a second consultation and hopefully it’s a matter of weeks before he’s back — a couple of weeks, please God.”

She will say: “International law should not become a tool for NGOs and other critics to seek to advance an activist political agenda through international bodies and our domestic courts.
“And if international bodies are taken over by activists, or by autocratic regimes like China or Russia, we must use our influence to stop them. And if that fails, we will need to disengage.”
Reform and a number of senior Tories want to quit the European Convention on Human Rights all together, as well as other international treaties that stop Britain from clamping down on illegal migration as well as blocking foreign deportations.
In her first major speech on Foreign Policy, Ms Badenoch will declare she is “a conservative. Not a cosmopolitan internationalist. Not a supra-nationalist. Not a neo-con. But a conservative realist.”
But she will warn: “We must stop being naïve about international affairs. We’ve let ourselves be fooled into believing that international law alone can keep the peace.
“When faced with a regime with no respect for the law, we need to be realistic.We can no longer simply put our trust in international partnerships or supranational institutions as ends in themselves.
“Where these work for us and deliver in our national interest we will embrace them.
“NATO remains vital for European defence. We should always prioritise closer trading relationships with open economies, and as a trading nation we need to protect the rules that underpin global commerce.”
She will add: “Our foreign policy should seek to support our national interest.
“We should review those alliances, methods and approaches which have served our world well for three generations; working together to the greatest possible extent with those nations which share our values. But our sovereignty must be at the core of our foreign policy.
“The United Kingdom must accept reality. No-one owes us a living. No process is an end in itself. We can no longer hide behind vapid statements that were, at best, ambitious twenty years ago and are now outright irrelevant.
“It is time to speak the truth: the world has changed. And we are not ready. So, we must change too.”
STEPHEN BRADLEY hopes Jack Byrne could be back in action this week as Shamrock Rovers prepare for Friday’s trip to champions Shelbourne.
The Hoops’ game on Sunday with Cork City was rained off.
This week is a double-header, with Rovers travelling to Shels on Friday and to Sligo Rovers on Monday.
And Bradley hopes that the extra few days will refresh his players, who are still recovering from the exertions of three matches in eight days following the Conference League clashes with Molde.
But the Hoops chief revealed that Byrne, who missed the start of the season with a knee injury, and Rory Gaffney — on the comeback trail after ten months out with an ankle problem — are close to returning.
Bradley said: “We go Friday and Monday so it’s a heavy week.
“We have to be careful with that, coming off a heavy week. Some players will need more work than others.
“Our three midfielders covered 15km against Molde, which is a heavy load for any player.
“We have to be careful with them three. Jack and Rory need to be pushed and we’ll do that this week.”
Gaffney was set for a place on the bench for Sunday’s postponed fixture against City.
However, Danny Mandroiu, Adam Matthews, Darragh Nugent and Trevor Clarke remain sidelined.
Graham Burke — who was also set to be on the bench last weekend — is fit for the Shels match after limping off against Molde.
And Bradley believes that a clash with the champions is the perfect way to return to league action after the disappointment of the Conference League elimination.
He said: “It’s frustrating. We did enough over both legs. I watched it back and we did the review of the stats.
“We did enough to go through but we didn’t take our chances and we gave away a terrible goal.
“It’s frustrating but it was a sore one on Thursday. You are still thinking about the game on Friday and what could’ve been.
“But we just didn’t do enough over the two legs to go through.
“We know what to expect from Shels, what type of game it’s going to be. We have to be ready. It will be a tough one.”
