Huge update on Frasier reboot as Only Fools star Nicholas Lyndhurst plans third series with Kelsey Grammer
NICHOLAS LYNDHURST has no intention of giving up on his American dream after cracking the States in his early sixties.
I can reveal the Only Fools and Horses legend is staying loyal to Kelsey Grammer and hoping the Frasier reboot will be picked up by a new network after Paramount decided against renewing a third season.
The British star, who plays Alan Cornwall in the sitcom – Frasier Crane’s old pal, believes in the project and feels the foundations are in place to build on the first two series.
A source close to Lyndhurst said: “The early episodes were a little shaky but they improved very quickly.
“It takes time for the writers and actors playing the characters to really interact, and the second series saw that begin to pay off.
“The writers knew who they were writing for and it got even better, so Nick and Kelsey and all involved would want the series to continue given the amount of creativity expended.”
Paramount confirmed earlier this month the reboot would be coming to an end on the network.
Lyndhurst had been regarded as the breakout star of the sitcom and his chemistry with Kelsey, who’s played shrink-turned-lecturer Dr Frasier Crane for nearly 40 years, was widely lauded by critics and fans in the US.
And Kelsey was also full of praise for the Rodney Trotter star, saying Nicholas is “the best actor I’ve ever worked with.”
Nicholas and Kelsey first met starring in the 2019 West End musical Man of La Mancha and formed such a close bond, the veteran US actor brought him on board for the Frasier comeback nearly two decades after it last aired, a huge surprise in TV land.
Kelsey claims the show’s writers have got over 100 episodes in the bag, so if a new network did take on the sitcom giant, they could get going straight away.
As Nicholas’ on-screen brother Derek Trotter would say, they’d be plonkers not to make another one.
Denise hunts for Matty
Mum Denise didn’t know how The 1975’s Matty Healy would react[/caption]WHEN Loose Women loudmouth Denise Welch decided to go on the run for Celebrity Hunted, she was never going to be low key.
While others try hard to avoid the Hunters, Denise took every risk going – even watching her son Matty Healy performing with his band, The 1975.
The mother and son are seen together on this Sunday’s episode, when Denise crashes his Glasgow gig.
She said: “Matty is very strategic in what he allows to be on TV. So I didn’t really know what he would say about being on Celebrity Hunted.
“But he agreed to be on the show because him and his bandmate George (Daniel) are fans. It’s a nice moment, albeit brief.”
Denise turned fugitive for the Channel 4 show with hubby Lincoln Townley. And they escaping Matty’s gig at the OVO Hydro arena challenging as they were surrounded by thousands of rock fans.
Denise recalled: “Getting out of Matty’s gig was the most surreal moment in the show.
“One minute, I’m at this concert waving to fans from the side of the stage. The next I’m being manhandled by security out the venue.
“It was quite intense because we knew that the Hunters were outside the compound.”
Purple pain for Olivia
NEVER let it be said Olivia Attwood doesn’t suffer for her art.
The former Love Island star stripped off totally nude to try out the new saucy online trend of body painting.
It was part of her investigation into costume play for the new series of Getting Filthy Rich, which airs on Sunday at 10.05pm on ITV2.
Brave Olivia let an artist make her up as a mermaid – and the purple paint truly left its mark.
She said: “I despised it. I really hated it. It’s a sensory thing. Everything about it was out of my comfort zone, but it was important that I did it.
“I was trying to keep my s**t together.
“Four days later I was still purple after eight showers.”
It makes those revolting food challenges on Love Island sound bearable.
Stephen in deal thriller
STEPHEN MULHERN’s reboot of Deal or No Deal is flying high with hit ratings across the board.
But the show is about to take the excitement to another level.
I can reveal that next week host Stephen will be dishing out the ITV programme’s biggest prize yet.
A source said: “Everyone in the studio was on the edge of their seats. We knew that this was a pivotal moment.
“The contestant played the perfect game much to the annoyance of The Banker. Everyone, the cast, the audience, even Stephen, were stunned into silence.
“It was such an unbelievable moment to witness.”
The highest value box of the 22 available is £100,000.
During Noel Edmonds’ nine-year tenure as host, his top box – then worth £250k – was won just nine times.
Deal Or No Deal airs every weekday at 4pm on ITV1.
ITV has confirmed Towie will celebrate 15 years on air with two new series commissioned this year.
The original reality series has been streamed over 45million times in the last 12 months.

EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy QUITS Sonia Fowler role after 32 years as she breaks silence on shock exit
EASTENDERS legend Natalie Cassidy is leaving the soap for good – after nearly 32 years playing Sonia Fowler.
Bosses were last night keeping tight-lipped as to whether or not her much-loved character will be killed off, but confirmed that she will film her final scenes next month around the must-see 40th anniversary week.
The special week, which kicks off on Monday February 17, will see a huge explosion rip through the soap’s iconic Queen Vic pub, with several much-loved characters getting caught up in the blast.
Natalie, 41, told bosses of her decision to leave the hit BBC One soap last summer, and rumours are rife that her character could be killed off during the soap’s 40th.
An EastEnders source said: “The 40th week was always going to be shocking, but could they really kill off Sonia Fowler?
“Viewers have watched her grow up on screen and she’s been at the heart of some of the soap’s biggest storylines.
“It would be a proper soap shocker if she was to die during the 40th but equally it will be one that viewers will never ever forget.”
Natalie, who joined the BBC One soap back in 1993, aged just ten years, said: “I feel extremely sad to be writing this, but also very excited.
“After another 11 solid years back on The Square, I have decided it’s time to move on to pastures new. EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show.
“Thank you to Chris Clenshaw for the opportunity to be such a big part of the 40th anniversary – it’s an honour. See ya, Sonia, going but never forgotten.”
Natalie’s character Sonia is currently pregnant with killer Reiss Colwell’s baby unaware that he bumped off his ex-wife Debbie, a crime she was later charged with.
Luckily, a jury found her not-guilty of murder after Reiss produced a video of Sonia’s sister Bianca Butcher confessing to the killing.
But with Bianca, played by actress Patsy Palmer, 52, having been imprisoned by twisted Reiss in a lock-up for months, and forced to make the recording, it’s only a matter of time before the the truth comes out.
The source added: “There are so many twists and turns in the lead up to the 40th anniversary week. Sonia has no idea that Bianca is locked-up, and that Reiss is behind it all. But as she prepares to give birth in the coming weeks things will start to unravel.
“Bosses have pulled out all the stops to make the soap’s big 40th the most dramatic and unforgettable week in the history of EastEnders.
“And although it will be the last time we see the character of Sonia Fowler in Albert Square following Natalie’s decision to leave, everyone will have to wait and see if she makes it out alive.”
BIG LOSS
Speaking about Natalie’s departure from the soap, top boss Chris Clenshaw said: “Over the last 31 years in EastEnders, Natalie has been involved in some of the show’s most iconic and explosive storylines.
“Her portrayal of Sonia has made her a firm fan favourite amongst the viewers.
“I won’t be revealing the finite details relating to her exit, but I can say that she will take a central role in the 40th anniversary storylines in a week of truly unmissable drama that will change the lives of those in Walford forever.
“I’d like to thank Natalie for her time at EastEnders, and I wish her all the best for the future.”
EastEnders dramatic 40th anniversary week will start on Monday 17th February and will also feature a special live episode.
Other storylines include hard-man Phil Mitchell contemplating suicide which will see the return of his brother Grant, played by Ross Kemp, and actress Jaime Winstone reprising her role as a young Peggy Mitchell in a special flashback.
Fans will also discover who tried to kill Cindy Beale on Christmas Day and in a soap first, viewers will also get to decide whether Denise Fox reunites with estranged husband Jack Branning or picks secret bad-boy lover Ravi Gulati.
Over the last year, Natalie has spread her wings beyond Albert Square.
She’s launched her own BBC podcast with Gavin & Stacey’s Joanna Page called Off The Telly.
In 2021 she played a one-off role in hit drama Motherland.
And TV viewers are convinced that she is the celebrity hiding inside Bush in the current series of ITV’s The Masked Singer.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and is available to watch from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
