My kids’ school is asking parents to pay £5K for a trip & even showed a video of how good it will be before telling us

A MUM has been left raging after her daughter came home from school saying she wanted to go on a trip to Ecuador – which would set them back £5,000.

She explained in a video on her TikTok page that the state school had even shown the children a promo clip for the trip without even telling the parents first.

The trip to Ecuador would be for an entire month too[/caption]

And doing so just increased the amount of excitement the pupils – including her 14-year-old daughter – had about the trip, and therefore increased the amount of pressure on parents.

“My 14 year old – she would be just 16 by the time this trip takes place,” the mum said in her video.

“And her school felt it necessary to have a meeting about this trip and tell them how amazing it has been, when they’ve done it in previous years and how if your parents can’t afford it then you can fundraise.

“You can set up little small business enterprise and raise the money yourself.

“Five grand in a year and a half?”

She insisted she was “absolutely flabbergasted” at how the school had presented the trip to the students.

“My daughter got in the car last week and said, ‘Mum, I want to go to Ecuador‘,” she recalled.

“‘Ecuador? You’ve never mentioned Ecuador?’

“‘Oh it’s going to be amazing. We’re going to go trekking, we’re going to plant trees, we’re going to paint schools’.”

The mum-of-three added that she doesn’t doubt it would be a “fabulous opportunity for those that can afford it”, but worried she’s being the “a**ehole” for saying she doesn’t think her daughter should go.

In addition, the trip is for a month.

“The longest she’s ever been away from me is two weeks and she was on holiday with her dad and I spoke to her pretty much every day and I was getting pictures and videos of what she was up to,” she continued.

“This is a month in a rainforest!

“It’s a 17 hour flight.

“They did have a Paris trip planned for French art… going to the Louvre and they were doing some sightseeing and that was £600 for five days.

“And me and her dad, we agreed we were going to do half each. £300 for a school trip for five days, I didn’t think that was bad.

School Rules + Laws in the UK

“They cancelled that.

“Since then they’ve put on a skiing trip which was thousands of pounds but luckily she can’t ski and she’s got no intention of going on that.

“But they have really sold this Ecuador trip to these kids.”

“Please give me your opinions, I would love to know what your opinion is on if they’ve gone about this the right way,” she concluded.

“Should I be saying something to the school about how they’ve got all the children’s hopes up?”

People were quick to comment on the video, with many agreeing that the school had gone about things the wrong way.

I have no problem saying ‘no’ but it just makes the parents out to be a**eholes

TikTok mum

“Definitely should have spoken to parents first,” one wrote.

“That’s a disgrace, talk about putting pressure on parents!” another agreed.

“And what trip, costing £5000, is beneficial to their education?” a thid questioned.

“Schools should not put financial pressure on parents.

“Are the teachers paying £5k each to go?”

“Yet if I wanted to take my kid on the same trip and itinerary for a month during term time then I would be fined,” someone else pointed out.

“I’m a teacher of 30 years and that price is utterly disgusting, especially in the current economic environment,” another commented.

“Well said!”

“Just say no,” someone else suggested.

To which the mum replied: “They haven’t made it easy to do that with how they have sold it to the kids.

“I don’t have a problem saying no, it just makes the parents out to be a**eholes.”

However, others urged her to consider sending her daughter on the trip.

“Both my daughters came home from school wanting to go to Cambodia for £9,500 – same kind of trip,” one wrote.

“We fundraised for a year. Best experience of their lives.

“Great for their future honestly.”

“My son did the world challenge trip to Nepal in 2015, cost £2150. Worth every penny,” another said.

“People in my class managed it, about 4 or 5 of them really wanted to go so they did a bunch of fundraising stuff and managed it in about a year,” a third commented.

“It’s possible!”

CALL the Midwife’s Helen George has revealed the fate of a fan-favourite character hangs in the balance.

A huge twist saw her marriage turned upside down on the BBC drama as Trixie had a huge decision to make.

Her husband Matthew Aylward took up a new business opportunity in New York[/caption]

On the show, her husband Matthew (Olly Rix) has taken the opportunity to move to New York City for business.

This was after he lost control of his late dad’s company in the last series of Call The Midwife because of increasing debts.

After a period of hesitation, she decided to go with her husband to the Big Apple.

Her character is now splitting time between London and the American city after she took on an executive role in Poplar.

This was in an attempt to save Nonnatus House as the Board of Health wanted to shut it down.

She informed Sister Julienne that the pair do plan on returning to England, however the actress has no idea what the future holds for the couple.

Speaking to Radio Times at its Covers party, she was asked about what will happen with her character’s marriage.

However, it seems that Helen has no idea if Matthew will ever come back to Poplar.

Helen commented: “Who knows!”

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens there. At the moment, I don’t know, and I’m excited to find out what happens.”

After Olly Rix departed the long-running show, the outlet reported that bosses had left the door open in case he wanted to return to the drama.

However, it remains to be seen whether fans will ever see Trixie and Matthew on-screen together again.

Meaning that question marks remain over their marriage on the BBC One period show.

The fourteenth series of the show has proven to be particularly dramatic for a number of characters.

Call The Midwife: A breakdown

Call The Midwife first came onto the airwaves in 2012 and has been seen by millions. But what is it about?

Series one: Set in early 1957 and it explored the ‘Baby Boom generation, which included themes of poverty and post-war immigration.

Series two: Set in 1958 and it showed gas and air being introduced for pain relief for the first time. It ended with the Nonnatus House building being condemned.

Series three: Set in 1959 and it depicted gruesome conditions such as cystic fibrosis, polio and it showed the midwives in the context on prisons.

Series four: Set in 1960 under the threat of nuclear warfare and the emergency response guidelines issued by the local Civil Defence Corp. Other themes included LGBT rights, and syphilis.

Series five: Set in 1961 and it shows the care of patients with conditions such as Typhoid and strokes. We also saw the effects of thalidomide, the introduction of the contraceptive pill.

Series six: Set in 1962 and domestic violence was at the centre of the season. Other themes included FGM (female genital mutilation), mental health issues and interracial marriage. It was also notable for the introduction of Reggie, a recurring character with Down Syndrome.

Series seven: Set in 1963 and we see Nurse Lucille Anderson for the first time. We also see the show address conditions such as dementia, huntington’s disease, leprosy and meningitis

Series eight: Set in 1964 and it bravely covered the issue of abortion, which was not legal for another three years in 1967. Sickle cell disease, cleft lip, cleft palate and intersex people also featured.

Series nine: Diptheria was at the centre of the ninth instalment in 1965, and it was notable for featuring a blind expectant mother. But the role of Nonnatus House within the community also came into question.

Series ten: Set in 1966, Nonnatus House has a rival in the form of the private Lady Emily Clinic in Mayfair. PKU, diabetes and the controversy surrounding abortion were central themes.

Series eleven: Set in 1967 amid the housing crisis and a scabies epidemic. The show was rocked by a train crash right next to Nonnatus House.

The midwives welcomed Sister Catherine (Molly Vevers) into the ranks of Nonnatus House, but she has a tragic backstory.

This is as Nancy (Megan Cusack) left her job to become closer to her betrothed partner Roger (Conor O’Donnell).

There was also a potential romance blossoming between Rosalind (Natalie Quarry) and Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) before he traveled to Jamaica to see his estranged wife Lucille.

This comes after Matthew failed to return for the highly-publicised Christmas specials.

Trixie mentioned Matthew in the plot as she planned to return to the Big Apple after Christmas in the special.

However, it looked like fans would not see the handsome character on their screens any time soon.

Body found in hunt for missing sisters who vanished together

A BODY has been found in the hunt for two missing sisters who vanished together.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen on January 7 at 2.12am in Market Street at Victoria Bridge.

The sisters, aged 32, had crossed the Victoria Bridge to the Torry district of the city[/caption]

Their disappearance prompted a major search and rescue mission but officers have been unable to find the pair nearly three weeks on.

Police Scotland announced on Monday that “extensive and detailed searches” of the river and harbour had concluded, according to reports.

But the force said wider inquiries to find the sisters are ongoing, including searches of coastal areas in the north and south of Aberdeen.

Earlier, officers said the two women had visited the bridge where they were last seen the day before their disappearance.

They were seen at Victoria Bridge at around 2.50pm on January 6.

CCTV shows the sisters, who are part of a set of triplets, spent five minutes at the footpath and Victoria Bridge but did not engage with anyone else.

It also emerged a text message was sent from Henrietta’s mobile phone to the sisters’ landlady at 2.12am on January 7, from the area of Victoria Bridge, indicating they would not be returning to the flat.

The phone was then disconnected from the network and has not been active since, police said.

The following day, the sisters’ personal belongings were found in the flat and the landlady reported her concerns to police.

After visiting the bridge on January 6, CCTV footage shows the sisters making their way through the city centre, via the Union Square shopping centre, back to their flat in the Charlotte Street area.

Police said there is nothing to indicate they left it again until shortly before they were last seen at the River Dee.

When they were last seen on January 7 they crossed the bridge and turned right on to a footpath next to the river heading towards Aberdeen Boat Club.

His most recent victory came in the Grade 3 Limestone Lad at Naas last weekend.

Jockey Paul Townend said after victory ‘the dream is still alive’ with regards to top future targets.

But unfortunately they have now all been dashed just as the jumps season reaches overdrive.

Mullins said in his Sporting Life column: “Unfortunately Anzadam picked up a little injury at Naas and won’t be ready for Aintree.

“I don’t feel it’s prudent to try and rush him back for Punchestown so he’ll miss the remainder of the season.”

While Anzadam was short in the betting for the Champion Hurdle, Mullins had indicated the five-year-old was more likely to head to the Grand National Festival.

More to follow.

Line of Duty, The Crown and Top Boy stars team up for gripping new Netflix drama – as release date is confirmed

NETFLIX has confirmed the release date for its gripping new crime drama Adolescence, and it’s set to be one of the most talked-about series of 2025.

Starring an impressive lineup, including Stephen Graham (Line of Duty), Ashley Walters (Top Boy), and Erin Doherty (The Crown), the four part series will arrive on the streaming platform on March 13, 2025.

Stephen Graham is playing the father of a young boy accused of murder[/caption]

The drama tells the harrowing story of a family thrown into turmoil when 13-year-old Jamie Miller is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl from his school.

Stephen stars as Jamie’s devastated father, Eddie, while Ashley takes on the role of Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, who is leading the investigation.

Meanwhile, Erin plays the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case, tasked with uncovering the truth behind the shocking crime.

Adolescence is co-created and written by Stephen alongside acclaimed screenwriter Jack Thorne, with Philip Barantini (Boiling Point) directing.

The one-shot filming style which made Boiling Point so immersive will be used in this show to heighten the tension.

At Netflix’s recent ‘Next on Netflix’ event Stephen shed light on the inspiration behind the project, referencing the tragic rise in knife crime among young people across the UK.

He explained: “Over the past decade, we’ve seen an epidemic of knife crime involving young lads. And for me, there were cases that really stuck out—where young boys, because they are just boys, not men—were killing young girls.

“I kept asking myself, why? What’s happening in our society? We’re so quick to judge, to blame parents, but what if that’s not the full story?”

Adolescence will place a sharp focus on the parents of young offenders and the wider societal issues at play that contribute to these crimes.

The show’s director believes the way the series is shot will make it impossible for viewers to look away.

Philip shared: “We’re all guilty of watching TV with one eye on our phones, but with Adolescence, you won’t want to miss a second.

“The tension is relentless, and the actors are living in the moment—there’s no cutting away, no escaping the intensity.”

Also joining the cast are Mark Stanley (Happy Valley), Faye Marsay (Ten Pound Poms), and Christine Tremarco (The Responder).

Everyone can see the people but you need a high IQ and 20/20 vision to work out who’s the robot in this brain teaser

THIS is the fun bot-based brain teaser to test your eyesight and logic skills.

Everyone can see the three people lined up, but only those with 20/20 vision and a high IQ can figure out which one is in fact a robot.

Illustration of a visual puzzle: identify the robot among three hikers.
Jagron Josh
Can you figure out which of these friends is a robot?[/caption]

The three friends look to be off on some kind of adventure.

The right-hand man and woman have rocked up in their hiking gear, kitted out with boots and shorts.

They’ve even come equipped with trusty staffs.

The woman seems much more excited than the fella – who is looking pretty shifty.

The man on the left has arrived laden with logs.

Good thinking for when they set up camp – but a bit of a burden for the trek there.

But the question is – which one of these pals is all nuts and bolts beneath the skin?

You’ll have to look closely to figure it out.

Don’t worry if you’re struggling – we can’t all be geniuses – but here comes a clue.

It might help to take in the campers’ surroundings – not just the people themselves.

If you really can’t sort the flesh from the tech, head to the bottom of the page for the solution.

People who are able to solve the puzzle quickly possess good observational skills and high cognitive speed.

It tests your ability to process a high volume of visual information and the ability to concentrate under high amounts of pressure.

Psychologists at The University of Glasgow found that staring at an optical illusion can improve eye sight by allowing you to see small print.

How can optical illusions and brainteasers help me?

Engaging in activities like solving optical illusions and brainteasers can have many cognitive benefits as it can stimulate various brain regions.

Some benefits include:

  • Cognitive stimulation: Engaging in these activities challenges the brain, promoting mental agility and flexibility.
  • Problem-solving skills: Regular practice enhances analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Memory improvement: These challenges often require memory recall and can contribute to better memory function.
  • Creativity: They encourage thinking outside the box, fostering creativity and innovative thought processes.
  • Focus and attention: Working on optical illusions and brainteasers requires concentration, contributing to improved focus.
  • Stress relief: The enjoyable nature of these puzzles can act as a form of relaxation and stress relief.

As promised, here’s the solution.

The man on the RIGHT is the robot – and you can tell from the tyre tracks he’s trailing behind.

Now you’re firing on all cylinders, have a go at some more teasers below.
