Woman, 33, pleads not guilty to murdering lover in Xmas Day horror attack just weeks after he welcomed sixth child

A WOMAN has denied murdering her lover in a Christmas Day horror attack just weeks after he welcomed his sixth child.

Kirsty Carless – also called Kirsty Cribb – appeared at Stafford Crown Court today.

The 33-year-old pleaded not guilty to a single charge of murder.

She was remanded into custody ahead of a hearing at the same court on May 12.

A trial date has been set for July 14.

The horror unfolded on Christmas Day just weeks after Louis welcomed a baby daughter.

Locals heard a woman screaming “no, no, no” and crying loudly in the early hours.

Louis’ on-off lover Carless was arrested at the property before being charged over the weekend.

His parents, who lived with the dad-of-six, had been on holiday in the Maldives when they were told about the tragedy.

One local told The Sun: “The young man who died was a lovely lad. He lived with his dad, who is a builder, and his step mum, who worked at a local care home.

“They kept themselves to themselves, and were a decent, hard working family.

“Louis had a baby daughter who he loved to bits.”

The Aston Villa fan’s devastated family paid tribute to the “devoted fisherman”, who was “well-loved” in the community.

They added: “As a family we are devastated at losing Louis. Life will never be the same without him.

“He leaves a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew him.

“Christmas is a time we have always spent together as a family, to lose Louis at this time is even harder.

“Louis leaves behind his Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister, along with his six children.

“He has four daughters and two sons who he loved dearly. Louis had a big heart, he loved those closest to him.”

Staffordshire Police has referred itself to the IOPC watchdog “due to recent police contact”.

The force previously confirmed they were called to the home following reports of a man suffering a cardiac arrest.

A post mortem has taken place but a cause of death has not been revealed.

Fashion pro reveals ‘life-saving’ tip to stop clothes & shoes stinking between washes – it sounds bizarre but it works

WE all know that frustrating moment when your favourite top starts to develop that unpleasant odour under the armpits, and it feels like it might be time to say goodbye.

No matter how many times you wash it, the smell just won’t budge – which, for most people, means it’s time to start hunting for a new go-to top.

However, one fashion expert has shared a ‘life-saving’ tip that she claims will keep your clothes smelling fresh between washes.

Better yet, this hack can even be used to give your shoes a much-needed refresh.

Katie Little Patz took to her TikTok page to reveal the clever trick, describing it as a “little trade secret”.

Talking to the camera, while demonstrating how to do it, Katie says: “Do you spray your sweaters with vodka? This is a little trick of the trade.”

“I don’t know if everyone knows this, but you can spray your sweater in this region if you struggle with, you know, different scents, if you will.

“All you need to do is take a spray bottle, put a little vodka in it, and you spray the inside of your sweater in the area that you might need help in.

“This will keep your sweaters fresh and long-lasting.”

“I’m on a 10-day trip to Europe, and I have had no problem.

“It’s really a lifesaver. If you deal with this, then you know.”

She also captioned the video: “Did you know vodka can kill bacteria that causes odour on your clothes?

“I have tried EVERYTHING and this is the only thing that truly works.”

Her video gained lots of attention with many rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One asked: “Will I smell like I stumbled home from a night out if I do this or does the vodka smell go away?”

To which Katie replied: “Promise, once sprayed, it’s a very neutral scent.”

As long as it’s unflavoured and at least 80 proof, don’t waste the good stuff

A second also questioned: “does it work on cigarette smell from the thrift?”

And Katie answered with: “It definitely helped me with clothes I’ve thrifted.”

Someone else said: “You don’t mention which one works better, Grey Goose or Smirnoff.”

Katie replied: “As long as it’s unflavoured and at least 80 proof, don’t waste the good stuff!”

However, she also warns: “I wouldn’t recommend cashmere; the fibres are too delicate.”

“Steaming the sweater or using a cashmere-safe fabric spray can also kill the bacteria!”

Another also asked: “Do you need to mix with water at all?”

Katie responded: “No, I find it works best without any dilution!”

More winter laundry tips

Tackling laundry in the winter can be a challenge, but these handy tips can help you stay on top of it:

  • Use a Dehumidifier: Place a dehumidifier in your drying area to speed up the drying process and prevent dampness.
  • Spin Cycle Boost: Run an extra spin cycle on your washing machine to remove excess water from clothes, reducing drying time.
  • Indoor Drying Rack: Invest in a good-quality indoor drying rack and position it near a radiator or in a well-ventilated room.
  • Tumble Dryer Balls: Add tumble dryer balls to your dryer to help clothes dry faster and reduce static cling.
  • Space-Saving Hangers: Use space-saving hangers or a retractable washing line to maximise indoor drying space.
  • Microfibre Towels: Lay microfibre towels over your drying rack to absorb extra moisture from hanging clothes.
  • Partially Dry Outside: On dry days, hang clothes outside for a short period before bringing them in to finish drying.

These hacks can help you keep your laundry routine efficient and your clothes fresh, even during the colder months.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

Some fans are disappointed though[/caption]

The small bar is a mix of Mini Egg pieces and Dairy Milk Chocolate.

It is the first flavour innovation in the Irish-produced small bar range in over a decade.

And the limited edition bar is the ninth to join the small bar family.

The current flavours include the classic Dairy Milk, Caramello, Golden Crisp, Fruit & Nut, Mint Crisp, Tiffin, Turkish and Wholenut.

The chocolate bosses launched the ‘Choose the Flavour You Favour’ campaign last year to help fans rediscover the range of flavours available.

And the Mini Egg bar will be available for fans to try in just days and add to their favourites list.

Cadbury Ireland’s Standard Confectionery Lead Seamus Harahan shared his excitement about the launch.

He said: “Bringing a new flavour to our much-loved Cadbury Dairy Milk small bars range for the first time in over a decade is truly exciting.

“The combination of Cadbury Dairy Milk, Ireland’s #1 selling small chocolate bar, and Cadbury Mini Eggs adds a fun twist to the iconic Irish produced range – but it is a limited-edition, so you’ll need to be quick to get your hands on one.”

He continued, “Our ‘Choose the Flavour You Favour’ campaign sparked nationwide excitement, debate and discussion last year, further strengthening our market-leading position, reflecting the passion Irish consumers have for our products.

“We are excited to see how people respond to the new limited-edition flavour – and if it can become the flavour they favour!”

And fans are indeed excited for the new addition to the small bars range that has been produced in Dublin since 1933.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: “Ahhhhhhhh, cannot wait to try.”

Another said: “Yummmmmmmm!”

One person added: “Oh wow!!! Cannot wait to try!!!”

‘SO BORING’

However, some fans were disappointed by the announcement that the Mini Egg bar was back but just in a smaller size.

One said: “Was really hoping for a new flavour, not an existing bar just made smaller!”

Another said: “Are these not the same as the large Mini Egg bars in the yellow packet? Just smaller.”

And another added: “Literally exactly the same. So boring.””

“Literally, why bother even advertising it?”

EXCLUSIVE FIRST TRY

But for those who are excited about the limited edition bar, there is an exclusive chance to be the first to taste it.

Fans can try the bar out at a pop up hosted alongside Irish podcasters I’m Grand Mam today.

The hatch will be located at 4 Leinster Street South, Dublin 2, D02XT95 from 8am.

Samples are on a first come first serve basis.

Apple makes major change to millions of iPhones that uses up a load your storage – but there’s a way to switch it off

YOUR latest iPhone update might have just eaten up 7GB worth of storage overnight.

Apple’s new AI-powered feature, Apple Intelligence, is switched on by default on all compatible devices in iOS 18.3.

If you want to make use of the new AI-powered features, then you may need a few storage-freeing tricks up your sleeve

It brings a bundle of new features, like a smarter Siri, custom emoji, message summaries and image generation.

But all those new features require more space on your phone – if your device is eligible.

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Now, you can choose to disable Apple Intelligence entirely, and free up a whopping 7GB.

You can do this in Settings, by going to the new Apple Intelligence & Siri section.

From there, you can toggle off Apple Intelligence.

Doing so will prompt a confirmation, after which the system will remove nearly all AI features.

Although, some new AI tools like the Clean Up feature in the Photos app may remain available.

It’s an easy fix, that only takes a few seconds.

But if you want to make use of the new AI-powered features, then you may need a few extra storage tricks up your sleeve.

Offload unused apps

If you have apps that you rarely use but don’t want to delete permanently, you can offload them.

This means the app is removed but the documents and data are still intact – so it takes up less storage than a fully installed app.

  1. Go to Settings tap on General
  2. Select iPhone Storage
  3. Scroll down and tap on the app you want to offload, and choose Offload App

Optimise photos and videos

Photos and videos can take up a significant amount of storage space.

But a nifty button in Settings can save the high-resolution versions of this media to iCloud.

They’re still on your device, but in a lower resolution until you click on them and load the high-res versions.

To optimise storage, enable the Optimise iPhone Storage option in Settings > Photos & Camera.

Clear Safari Cache

Over time, Safari accumulates cache – just like the internet browser on your PC or laptop does.

To clear this, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings tap on Safari
  2. Select Clear History and Website Data
  3. Confirm your choice by tapping Clear History and Data

This will also remove offline reading list data and free up storage space.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen, then tap in the bar and type a currency (like €200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
