I burned my thumb on pan while cooking pasta on camping trip – then I was put in coma & my legs amputated

A MAN was put into a coma and had his legs amputated after burning his thumb on a frying pan.

Max Armstrong, 40, burnt himself while on holiday in December 2024 and “didn’t think much of the injury” it until it was too late.

The amputation took place on December 23 and took a total of three hours[/caption]

The Colorado native was camping with his friends at Kiowa, in the centre of the state, and was only trying to cook pasta when he sustained the injury.

Describing himself as constantly “being outdoors” Max had received scrapes, and cuts before and wasn’t too stressed about the burn.

Max said: “I grabbed a skillet wrong and my thumb touched the hot part, I could feel it burning as I moved it to the table but I didn’t want to drop it.

“After dinner, I cleaned up the burn, put a bandage on it and left it.

“Sadly, dinner was enough for the burn to get strep A.”

The business owner, from Franktown, said it was a hunting trip with friends that “turned into a bit of a nightmare.”

A few days after his injury, Max started to notice some terrifying symptoms.

His left leg became noticeably swollen, his toenails darkened and became purple, and he was overwhelmed by intense, agonising pain.

On the sixth day, he was rushed to the hospital and immediately diagnosed with sepsis – a life-threatening medical condition.

Sepsis can occur when the body’s immune system responds to an infection in an extreme and harmful way – even if it’s a seemingly small injury, like a frying pan burn.

In the hospital, Max’s eyes started to roll upwards and Doctors at AdventHealth Parker confirmed strep A bacteria and entered the burn, triggering sepsis.

“At this point, the burn on my thumb had become pretty ugly, it had turned black and looked like it was eating away at my thumb,” Max continued.

“The doctors were asking me lots of questions, but my eyes started rolling back in my head and I started talking nonsense.”

Due to the severity of his condition, he was placed in an induced coma for six days and moved to a better-equipped hospital.

His family were warned there was a chance he might not make it but to their relief on December 13 he woke up from his coma.

Max’s mother and his wife Megan were at the hospital to see him and were thrilled when he woke up.

He said: “My family was extremely happy, I could hear them cheering and then the nurses came in and started cleaning me up.”

Unfortunately, while in his coma the sepsis has continued to eat away at his feet and spread to his legs.

He said he remembers looking at his feet and to his horror, they were both completely black.

When someone’s limbs turn darker during sepsis, it can be because there has been a lack of oxygen in the area.

This can lead to tissue death and gangrene which, when severe, may require amputation.

Max went from camping with his friends to waking up in a hospital in Denver after a coma, only to be told both his legs needed to be removed.

The amputation took place on December 23, 2024, and took a total of three hours to complete.

Max added: “Initially when I woke up, I thought my legs were still there and then I came to realise that they weren’t.

“I felt down my leg and realised that my legs weren’t there, I asked the nurse and she confirmed that I had my legs amputated.

“She told me that my family was waiting for me and kept on reminding me of them which anchored me.”

The 40-year-old spent a 16 days in Sky Ridge Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation hospital recovering and being taught how to use a wheelchair – a device he would now depend on for the rest of his life.

He went to physical rehabilitation classes three times a day learnt crucial upper body exercises.

“Now I am in a wheelchair my shoulder and triceps are my lifeline,” he explained.

After enduring a long and harrowing journey, Max was finally able to leave on January 29, 2025, and is adapting to life as an amputee.

Since his story has been shared, Max has received an enormous amount of support and thousands of dollars have been raised on his behalf.

The GoFundMe is aimed to help with the long road to recovery and Max has shared his appreciation online to anyone who has donated.

On the site, he wrote: “I’ve been humbled and overjoyed at the contributions to my GoFundMe.

“You all truly are heroes in my journey to walk and hike again.

“I cannot begin to express how much it means to me.”

What are the symptoms of sepsis?

SEPSIS is a life-threatening reaction to an infection that happens when your immune system overreacts and starts to damage your body's own tissues and organs.

Symptoms of sepsis in an adult include:

  • Acting confused, slurred speech or not making sense
  • Blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin, lips or tongue – on brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
  • A rash that does not fade when you roll a glass over it, the same as meningitis
  • Difficulty breathing, breathlessness or breathing very fast

Symptoms in a child include:

  • Blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin, lips or tongue – on brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
  • A rash that does not fade when you roll a glass over it, the same as meningitis
  • Difficulty breathing (you may notice grunting noises or their stomach sucking under their ribcage), breathlessness or breathing very fast
  • A weak, high-pitched cry that’s not like their normal cry
  • Not responding like they normally do, or not interested in feeding or normal activities
  • Being sleepier than normal or having difficulty waking

They may not have all these symptoms.

If you think you or someone else has symptoms of sepsis, call 999 or go to A&E.

‘I feel so exposed’ – Mary McAleese blasts social media as she warns world is ‘nastier’

FORMER President Mary McAleese has slammed social media and warned the world has become a “nastier space”.

Patrick Kielty returned to Montrose tonight with a regular episode of The Late Late Show, after two weeks of specials.

Appearing alongside former RTE star Mary Kennedy, Mary McAleese discussed their friendship, the state of the world and the upcoming Irish Presidential election.

The two Marys are now hosts of The Changing Times podcast, and had a lot to say.

Mrs McAleese said: “Social media has just made dialog almost impossible.

“Everything is reduced to nasty little snide comments that you can fit into, whether it is 140 things on a what used to be called tweet.

“I don’t do tweets, or Twitter any of those things. I stay away from social media.”

Mrs McAleese admitted she hates social media sites, adding “I feel so exposed on them”.

She continued: “I think the world has become in terms of dialog, it’s just become a nastier space.

“Though, ironically, having said that, the place that you and I both come from, Northern Ireland- when I look at the two young women now who are First and Deputy First Minister, they’ve gone the other way.

“They smile at each other. They’re happy in each other’s company.

“Miles apart politically, political ambitions, very different attitudes. Very different, but they’re civil.

“And so there’s a kind of a civility now in Northern discourse that used to be absent, used to be very raw.

“Politics, I think, in certain parts of the world has gone very raw.”

Mrs McAleese discussed her hopes that the “ceasefire will hold”.

She said: “I look at what’s happening in the Middle East. These are neighbours.

“You and I know this, when you live in an environment where you’re always going to be neighbours to each other.

“You’d be better get on with each other, because if you don’t get on with each other, your children, in perpetuity, will never know peace.

“That’s what we lived with, you and I, that’s what we lived with in Northern Ireland.

“And I just look at that, and I hope and pray that some of these days, that the peace…

“For example, that the ceasefire will hold, and that the next phase will hold, and the phase after that will lead to the realisation that if you keep wanting 100 per cent of everything, then you end up with 100 per cent of nothing.

“Because that’s how we lived for a long time in Northern Ireland.”

‘NAGGING’

The 73-year-old praised the “extraordinary genius” John Hume for his single transferable speech.

She said: “He nagged us into the reality that if we didn’t compromise, we were always just going to live in misery.

“And it’s that here are neighbours in the Middle East, and the hatred is intense.

“Then sooner or later, that has got to go. It’s got to go, it’s got to be let go.

Mrs McAleese insisted there are people in the world “who want peace”.

She continued: “I mean to look at the people going back to their homes in Gaza today that aren’t there, actually, that aren’t there.

“And to think of the 40,000 who are dead, to think of those poor hostages, some of whom will never come home now because they’ve died in the meantime.

“But to look at the reconciliation when they meet their families, and the joy of love. If we can get to that.”

Mrs McAleese highlighted the lack of female representation in the new government.

She said: “There’s something systemic that we need to look at there.

“On the other hand, in every other area of life, every other profession, every other calling in life, women are little by little, chapter by chapter, writing new chapters.”

Alleged victim of student accused raping ten women told police he dragged her back to flat

AN alleged victim of a PhD student accused of drugging and raping ten women told police that he dragged her back to his flat, a jury heard.

She said she was drinking wine with Zhenhao Zou when she began to find him odd and wanted to leave.

In her police interview played to the jury, she said the Chinese student dragged her back by her clothes, before pushing her to drink vodka.

She claims he then raped her while she was unconscious at his flat in Elephant and Castle, South London.

She said: “I had no strength to fight him off.”

Zou, 27, is accused of drugging the women and filming himself raping them.

Police have identified two of ten alleged victims, Inner London crown court heard.

He denies 11 counts of rape plus other sex and drug charges.

The sexual predator student drugged and raped ten unconscious women then took photos to keep as souvenirs, a court heard.

Zou is accused of “stupefying” the women using vast amounts of alcohol or drugs to render them incapacitated.

The 27-year-old would then carry out sex attacks, which he filmed to keep as “souvenirs”, jurors were told.

Inner London Crown Court heard Zou would watch the videos back for his “own private sexual gratification”.

SOLE SOLUTION (1.25 Sandown, nap)

He did well to rally when winning at Hereford last time after looking in trouble turning in. That sort of staying power will be a real asset in what should be pretty testing conditions. He makes his handicap debut off a fair mark and looks hard to beat.

MARBLE SANDS (2.50 Musselburgh, nb)

was a good second at Cheltenham last time in a strong contest and this looks an excellent winning chance. He sees out this trip strongly and goes on any ground. He has won here before and the handicapper has dropped him by 1lb.

ETALON (2.00 Sandown, treble)

He landed his last win over this course and distance and has fallen down the weights after some modest efforts this season. He likes soft ground and something like his best would deliver in this modest contest.

Templegate’s TV verdicts

SANDOWN

1.25

SOLE SOLUTION did well to rally when winning at Hereford last time after looking in trouble turning in.

That sort of staying power will be a real asset in what should be pretty testing conditions.

He makes his handicap debut off a fair mark and looks hard to beat.

De Kingpin was second past the post at Newbury on just his third hurdles spin in December.

That was over a slightly longer trip so he should get home and has more to come.

Just Lucky Sivola found three miles a bit far when a fair third at Ascot latest.

He had earlier scored over this trip at Hereford and looks on a fair weight for Cobden and Nicholls.

Kalif D’Airy has been knocking on the door and came home well when just denied at Fakenham last month.

He goes on soft ground and has fair place claims.

2.00

ETALON landed his last win over this course and distance and has fallen down the weights after some modest efforts this season.

He likes soft ground and something like his best would deliver in this modest contest.

Martator won five in a row before a couple of flat efforts as the handicapper may have caught up with him.

His best form has been in better ground that we’re likely to get here.

Solo is down the weights and was a solid fourth at Ascot latest.

He has winning form around here and, while he ideally wants a longer trip, this will be more of a slog than usual which will help.

Classic Maestro would like even more rain as heavy suits perfectly.

He has run well in each of his three chases and trainer Jennie Candlish puts a 5lb claimer up today which makes him competitive.

2.35

JANGO BAIE couldn’t have been any more impressive when winning on chase debut at Cheltenham last time.

He easily saw off a useful performer in Springwell Bay who lagged in himself next time out.

Nicky Henderson’s potential star saw out this trip strongly up the hill.

The ground will be slower here but it was bottomless when he won a Grade 1 hurdle at Aintree last season so that won’t be an issue.

Kalif Du Berlais has put in a couple of exciting efforts of his own since a clumsy fall on chase debut at Carlisle.

He showed good battling spirit to get up at Newbury before leaving that form behind with a smooth Cheltenham success.

He’ll have to raise his game again but that’s entirely possible.

Handstands landed his second Grade 2 case in heavy ground at Ffos Las 21 days ago and won’t be a pushover. He stays well.

Mark Of Gold also took a Grade 2 last time, at Ascot, but that was not a strong contest.

3.07

RED DIRT ROAD ran a cracker to win from the front in good company at Aintree last time.

He wasn’t stopping at the end of 2m4f in testing ground and can make another bold bid at what could be tasty odds.

Henri The Second was impressive when winning over course and distance by 18 lengths last time.

He’s been shunted up 8lb but it could have been more and he’s proven in these conditions.

Deep Cave is a proper stayer who was on the premises at Windsor 13 days ago.

That was a decent race and he should give another good account.

Shoot First found the Long Walk Hurdle too much last time but earlier won a big handicap at Haydock over 3m.

Any market support for the Charles Byrnes runner would be telling.

3.42

O’CONNELL was impressive when scoring over 3m4f at Market Rasen last time on the back of an excellent victory in the mud at Carlisle.

We know he has plenty of staying power and should handle conditions. He looks ahead of the handicapper even after a 9lb rise.

In D’Or is in flying form and had four lengths in hand when scooting in at Ascot last time.

This would be the biggest win of his owner/rider’s career if he could pull it off and there’s every chance.

Gustavian went close at Aintree in good company on Boxing Day.

He copes well with soft ground and could get his own way out in front.

He’s high on the shortlist although he’s won only once in 20 chase starts.

Gelino Bello is another with place claims. He came back from a year off hurdles at Wincanton and should be much fitter for that run.

MUSSELBURGH

1.42

MAITRE EN SCIENCE has some fancy form in France and can strike on debut for Harry Derham.

He won a stronger race than this across the Channel when last seen and should have more to come.

Static has held his own in Grade 2 company and looks solid each-way. Decent ground suits and he’s reliable.

Nardaran is interesting for Paul Nicholls.

He was an expensive buy who looked in need of his yard debut when fourth at Kempton’s Christmas meeting.

He should come on for that in the first-time cheekpieces.

Hosaamm dug deep when winning at Wetherby last time.

That was just his second hurdles run so there should be more to come but this is stronger company.

Luker’s Tipple has a place shout after a good second at Cork latest.

2.17

OLD GREGORIAN is in excellent form and followed two wins with a close-up second at Kelso last time.

He’s creeping up the weights a little but Lucinda Russell wisely puts up 5lb claimer Alan Doyle today who has ridden him to victory already this season.

This trip suits on good ground and he’ll be right in the mix.

Afadil won this 12 months ago under Freddie Gingell and is back from a lower mark.

His form has been largely poor since that success but this will have been a target for a while and he is likely to show his true colours.

Maghlaak was a good third at Ayr earlier this month and the first-time cheekpieces may help him deliver more.

All The Glory has plenty of weight but landed a couple of handicaps nicely before finding an Ascot Grade 2 a bit much last time.

2.50

MARBLE SANDS was a good second at Cheltenham last time in a strong contest and this looks an excellent winning chance.

He sees out this trip strongly and goes on any ground. He has won here before and the handicapper has dropped him by 1lb.

The Kalooki Kid looks the main threat after his convincing success at Doncaster latest.

The ground will be a bit livelier today but he’s another with course form and a 7lb rise for his last victory gives him a chance.

Saint Segal got his act together when scooting in by 11 lengths at Newbury 45 days ago.

He jumped better there and has place claims from a career-high mark.

Minella Drama has his own ideas but he was impressive at Aintree on comeback and has been given a little break.

LEOPARDSTOWN

3.30

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS galloped all over most of these when winning the Savills here at Christmas and can repeat the feat.

He looked as good as ever last time, jumping well and pulling away from Fact To File after the last.

Willie Mullins’ superstar can complete the hat-trick of wins in this.

Fact To File looks the one to chase his stablemate home again.

He’s a genuine Grade 1 performer who has been beaten only by the reigning Gold Cup champion since his chase debut.

He looks more of a Ryanair type and is likely to be run out of it in the closing stages again.

I’m a big fan of Monty’s Star and think he has solid claims of making the frame at Cheltenham.

If that’s the case you would like to see a decent showing from him here and he can reward each-way support.

Ruth Langsford breaks silence on ‘difficult and painful’ split from Eamonn Holmes and reveals she is back on the market

TV’S Ruth Langsford has bounced back from her marriage split — saying: “You can crumble or pick yourself up.”

She was speaking publicly for the first time about her split with telly host Eamonn Holmes.

And it has not put her off finding love again.

Loose Women star Ruth said: “I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever.”

She and Eamonn, 65, who co-hosted ITV’s This Morning for 15 years, broke up last May.

Ruth, 64, told Woman & Home magazine: “Relationship breakdowns are very difficult, but you deal with it and have to move on.”

“You can let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”

Eamonn moved on quickly and went public with his girlfriend, relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, 42, in October. Friends say he may soon propose.

He has been seen using a wheelchair due to mobility issues.

Ruth, who was with Eamonn for 27 years, said: “I’m not delighted my marriage is over, but I’ve accepted it.

“I’m trying to now embrace the fact I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.

“Divorce is very painful. Most don’t do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion. But that’s the nature of my job.

“I’ve always had that and if you can’t cope, you shouldn’t be doing this job.”

She revealed she had also lost weight. Ruth said: “Divorce obviously has something to do with it, but I also went for a hormone rebalance, which helped.”

Ruth hosts Loose Women twice a week and covers Thursday on shopping channel QVC, banking £2.5million last year. She said: “People ask, ‘What’s next?’ I go, ‘What else do you want me to do?’

“Honestly, I’m not looking for more big projects.”

Ruth Langford reveals heartbreaking real reason behind her recent weight loss and reveals cruel trolling over her looks

RUTH Langsford has shared the heartbreaking truth behind her recent weight loss following her split from Eamonn Holmes.

Once Britain’s best loved couple, Ruth, 64, and Eamonn, 65,  announced their shock split last May after 14 years of marriage.

The Loose Women presenter hit out at cruel trolls who comment on her appearance[/caption]

Ruth opened up about turning 65 in March and addressed her new slimmer figure – saying it’s partly a result of her divorce.

The Loose Women star said: “I have lost weight.

“Divorce obviously has something to do with it but I also went for a hormone check and rebalance, which helped.

“It could also hopefully mean that I’m coming to the end of menopause.”

In an interview with Woman and Home magazine, Ruth said she is aware of her imperfections but are also proud of them.

However, the star admitted that not all fans are as supportive as she would like and have negatively criticised her appearance online.

“So many people don’t make it to 65, sadly, so I try not to dwell on age,” she told the publication.

“A man put on a social media post [recently], ‘Ruth’s really looking her age these days.’ I had a little jolt and thought, ‘What, because I’ve got a few lines?’ I’m nearly 65. What am I supposed to look like?

“Sometimes I’ll take a selfie and I’ll look at myself and go, ‘That looks terrible. I’m not posting that.’

“There’s a vanity [there].”

Ruth admitted there are times when she would consider altering her appearance, but remembers her mum and grandmothers advice.

She said: “I’m not saying that I’ll never have a neck lift or a chin lift because, who knows? By the time I’m 68, I might not be able to stand it any more.

“My grandma and mum were against vanity. If ever I said to my mum, ‘My knees are so chubby,’ she’d say, ‘You’re lucky to have knees.’
Perhaps somewhere in the back of my mind I’ve got a conditioning that to do anything like that is vain.

“There are times when I think, ‘Am I just cutting my nose off to spite my face?’ I say I don’t want injectables or fillers but I could look great.”

The Sun was first to report how Ruth, 64, and Eamonn, 65, were pushing for a “quickie divorce” in which she is eager to keep their £3.5million Surrey mansion as part of her divorce settlement.

The Sun later revealed Eamonn is set to lose the custody of the Border Collie cross, who is 14-years-old.

Eamonn, who has a son, Jack, 22, with Ruth, spoke earlier this year of Maggie’s “unconditional love” and the joy she brings to his life.

He said: “I genuinely have never experienced affection like it.”

Meanwhile, Eamonn has sparked speculation he is ready to start afresh with his new girlfriend Katie Alexander.

The Sun On Sunday previously revealed the GB News anchor was keen to get engaged to Katie.

Showing his commitment to his new love, The Sun revealed he drove four hours to make sure he shared a special first Christmas with marriage counsellor.

Winter sun holiday destination crowned No.1 for Brits has very cheap 5-star hotels and flights… plus no jet lag

THE world’s best cities outside of Europe have been revealed in a new study.

Speaking to 1,500 people, Which analysed 2,500 city visits which were outside of Europe.

The research looked at seven key criteria – food and drink, tourist attractions, shopping, accommodation, lack of crowds, value for money and how easy it was to get around.

Taking the top spot was Cape Town, which recently welcomed new direct flights from the UK.

Last October, Norse Airways launched the new London Gatwick-Cape Town route, with return fares around £499.

The three-weekly flight joins both British Airways – who launched two more daily routes earlier this month – and Virgin Atlantic who offer seasonal routes.

And the African city received top marks with five out of five for its food and drink, and shopping.

It was also named the best value, long-haul destination – something echoed last year by the Post Office’s annual report who also named it top for value.

One person said: “I was amazed by the low cost of eating out in Cape Town versus London or New York. The food was exceptional.”

Last year, the city’s tourism minister raved about how cheap the five-star hotels were as well.

South Africa Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille said at a trade show earlier this year: “When you come here you are really getting value for money and British visitors are able to afford our five-star hotels.”

Some of the most affordable top end resorts can be found for around £230 a night – a fraction of London’s average of £400.

Non-stop flights take around 11hr20 from London Gatwick and London Heathrow but there is no time difference so you won’t have to worry about let lag.

Also making the Which? top 10 list was Kyoto, with Japan set to be a big travel destination in 2025.

The city beat Cape Town when it came to tourist attractions and ease of getting around.

In third place was Sydney, followed by Chicago and Tokyo.

Some of the nearest destinations to Brits on the list was Marrakech, although came in 25th place.

The Sun go to Cape Town

The Sun’s Deputy Digital Sport Editor Simon Rice reveals how to do a holiday in the South African city.

“The area is famous for its wine, with Franschhoek and Stellenbosch the stand out regions within easy distance of the city.

“We use the brilliant hop-on-hop-off Franschhoek Wine Tram to explore the breathtaking valley, tasting everything from sparkling rosé to rich reds and crisp whites.

“Mouth-watering food and wine is also easy to find back in Cape Town with our favourite at Codfather in Camps Bay with freshly caught oysters, octopus, lobster, scallops and crab.

“Other must-visit spots are Boulders Bay – we watched adorable penguins happily hopping around which is as delightful as it is bizarre.

“And popular attraction is Robben Island, “home” to former president Nelson Mandela for 18 years while he was a political prisoner.

“Make sure to head to Camps Bay Strip too – its where celebs including Prince Harry and Leonardo DiCaprio have been spotted.”

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said: “Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all – each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery.

“In many cases, they are bargains too.

“Cape Town is probably the world holiday destination where your pound will go furthest, while the cost of a holiday in Japan for British travellers has tumbled in recent years thanks to a weaker yen against the pound – there has never been a better time to go.”

A number of US cities ranked poorly, with Miami and Las Vegas at the bottom, with one star for attractions and value for money.

Earlier this year, Time Out revealed their best cities to visit in 2025 which also named Cape Town as the very best.

However, six in the UK made the list with London (5th), Edinburgh (13th), Brighton (34th), Glasgow (36th), Belfast (47th) and Bristol (48th).

Bath was even named a top spot to visit this year by New York Times – here’s how to spend a weekend there.

And here are seven holiday destinations to watch this year, according to Abta.

EMMERDALE have shared a first look at April Windsor’s tragic story as the teen is revealed to have been living on the streets in squalor.

Viewers that tune into Tuesday 4th February’s episode will see April’s anguish laid bare as her heartbreaking story is told.

Fans will learn that April had nowhere to stay after she decided to leave home and found herself in all manner of terrifying situations as a teen alone on the street.

Commenting on the special episode, Emmerdale’s producer Laura Shaw said: “April’s flashback episode is a heartbreaking depiction of life on the street as a teenage girl.

“Continuing to take guidance from the fabulous team at Missing People, it was incredibly important that we didn’t shy away from the agonising journey that April would go through and their help was invaluable in making sure the episode has the authenticity required.

“Amelia Flanagan’s outstanding performance makes this arguably, one of Emmerdale’s stand out episodes of this year and promises to start a new journey for the character of April, forever changed by her time living on the city streets.”

Harrowing images showcase a distressed and dirty looking April sobbing and hunched as she carries a large rucksack with her.

Another shot shows April surrounded by others on the street in a makeshift home as they sit around a kettle looking dishevelled.

Ahead of the episode, Marlon and Rhona will finally be told by the cops that April has been discovered.

PC Swirling will be seen arriving at the family home where he will deliver the all-important news.

Emmerdale has teased that April will be changed forever as a result of her time and experience on the streets.

It comes after her father Marlon was left panicking that she could be connected to abuser Anthony Fox.

With rumours swirling around the village about his abhorrent past, Marlon, Rhona and Bob were all left panic-stricken at the thought of him being involved with April.
