Sick surgeon ‘raped & abused 300 kids often under anaesthetic’ for 25yrs after litany of missed chances to stop him

A VILE surgeon has been accused of raping nearly 300 children while they were under anaesthetic for 25 years in the biggest paedophile case in French history.

Joel Le Scouarnec, 73, who has already been sentenced to 15 years behind bars in another shocking case, will face the courts again this month.

The disgraced surgeon has been accused of abusing hundreds of children between 1989 and 2014.

Le Scouarnec will face more than 100 rape charges and over 150 sexual assault charges when his trial starts in Vannes, north-west France.

Worrying questions have been raised after it was revealed a litany of chances to stop the monster were missed.

An FBI warning had alerted the French authorities that the former surgeon had been visiting child abuse websites.

Le Scouarnec was handed a four month suspended sentence for that vile crime in 2005 but his career was not affected.

It was revealed the French health ministry was made aware of this conviction in 2006 but did not remove Le Scouarnec from his job.

His case has raised questions around a supposed coverup by his colleagues and hospitals he worked at.

Le Scouarnec’s previous conviction had sparked a huge debate at the Quimperlé hospital when one of his colleagues accidentally discovered his sentence, according to France Info.

This worker wrote a letter to the management saying they had “doubts about (his) ability to remain completely calm when in contact with young children”.

Despite this, a unanimous decision was made to keep him at work with no extra checks.

His case had also been escalated to the French health ministry’s disciplinary department in November 2006 but no action was taken.

The ministry even allowed Le Scouarnec to continue working in 2015, despite passing the legal retirement limit.

The nearly 300 reported child victims that the disgraced doctor will be back in court for, were supposedly mostly abused in the hospital he worked in.

Le Scouarnec stopped working at the hospital when he was finally imprisoned in 2017 when his six-year-old neighbour reported rapes.

The former doctor was arrested and sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2020 for raping and sexually assaulting four young girls.

Two of these victims were his nieces, one was his neighbour, and the fourth was a former patient of his.

After his 2017 arrest, investigators made shocking discoveries at his home.

Sickening child-sized sex dolls and over 300,000 child abuse images were discovered.

Authorities also found diaries that detailed sexual acts with children, in which he described himself as “exhibitionist, voyeur, sadist, masochist, scatologist, fetishist, pedophile”, according to Le Parisien.

He added: “And I am very happy about it.”

His diaries reportedly described the apparent crimes in great detail and without an ounce of regret or empathy.

Le Scouarnec denied these words were a reality and claimed they were just his sick “fantasies”.

Authorities believe the sick man often acted on his apparent victims while they were asleep and he was operating on them in the hospitals he worked at, in Morbihan, Finistère, Indre-et-Loire, and Charente-Maritime, according to Le Parisien.

Some of his apparent victims, who are now older, claimed the doctor touched them inappropriately even when their parents were also in the room.

The sick doctor could now face 20 years behind bars, which is the maximum sentence – excluding repeat offences – for aggravated rape in France.

The child sex cases that have rocked France

FRANCE has been shaken by several shocking child abuse and rape cases.

Joel Le Scouarnec, 73, will face the courts again in a new court case accusing the former-surgeon of abusing nearly 300 children.

He was previously sentenced to 15 years behind bars for sexually assaulting four children.

The surgeon has been accused of assaulting kids between 1989 and 2014.

Authorities believe he could have also done this to children as he operated on them under anaesthetic.

The Outreau case from the early 2000s also shocked France.

An extensive paedophile network was revealed after a criminal case in northern France.

A couple confessed to abusing children between 1997 to 2000 but after they pointed fingers at friends and neighbours, the huge web was unraveled.

Among the 18 suspects were a priest who lived in their apartment building, a court bailiff from a neighbouring town, his wife, a taxi driver, a labourer, and his son.

FRANCE’S SHAME

This has not been the only horrifying rape case to shock France.

The country’s most notorious serial rapist, Dominique Pelicot, was sentenced for organising the sickening mass rape of his wife, Gisèle, for nine years.

This beast had recruited at least 70 men from online chatrooms to rape his wife and filmed the assaults – even including their next-door neighbour.

He stored around 20,000 images and videos of the perverted acts on a stick.

A huge trial of all the men complicit in Gisèle’s rape was held in 2024.

A total of 47 men were found guilty of rape, most against Gisèle, while two were convicted of attempted rape and two of sexual assault.

How you can get help

Women's Aid has this advice for victims and their families:

  • Always keep your phone nearby.
  • Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine.
  • If you are in danger, call 999.
  • Familiarise yourself with the Silent Solution, reporting abuse without speaking down the phone, instead dialing “55”.
  • Always keep some money on you, including change for a pay phone or bus fare.
  • If you suspect your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a lower-risk area of the house – for example, where there is a way out and access to a telephone.
  • Avoid the kitchen and garage, where there are likely to be knives or other weapons. Avoid rooms where you might become trapped, such as the bathroom, or where you might be shut into a cupboard or other small space.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse, SupportLine is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm on 01708 765200. The charity’s email support service is open weekdays and weekends during the crisis – messageinfo@supportline.org.uk.

Women’s Aid provides a live chat service – available weekdays from 8am-6pm and weekends 10am-6pm.

You can also call the freephone 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.

‘Bright’ schoolgirl, 15, dies after being pulled from river amid ‘beautiful’ teen tributes after ‘parent’s nightmare’

A SCHOOLGIRL who was pulled from a river after being reported missing yesterday has tragically died in hospital.

The 15-year-old girl, who has been named locally as Imogen Cleary-Vong, was rescued from the Moyola River in Castledawson, Co Derry after she was reported missing at around 5am yesterday morning.

Lough Neagh Search and Rescue team, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the river early yesterday and the young girl was pulled from the water and rushed to Antrim Area Hospital.

However, the PSNI confirmed that the teenager was sadly pronounced dead in hospital later, adding that “the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time”.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said crews mobilised at 5:18am, deploying two fire appliances from Magherafelt, the water rescue team from Crescent Link in Derry and specialist rescue teams from Central Fire Station in Belfast.

A spokesperson said: “Firefighters using water rescue equipment, thermal cameras and the rescue boat attended and working with other agencies, they removed one casualty from the water and into care of the NIAS and she was transferred to Antrim Area Hospital.”

Imogen, who was a pupil at Saint Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt, has been remembered as the “beloved daughter” of Michael and Pauline and “loving sister” of Dylan and Cody.

A notice online said: “Deeply regretted by her father, mother, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family circle and friends.”

It added: “Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God’s love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen.”

Funeral details for the young girl will be confirmed at a later date and the wake has not yet commenced.

Heartbreaking tributes have poured in for Imogen, with mourners taking to social media to remember the “beautiful wee soul”.

One person said: “What a beautiful girl and such a loss for her family.”

Another said: “So sorry for your loss Pauline, husband and boys. A beautiful girl. Forever young.”

A third added: “Absolutely heartbreaking news. A beautiful young lady. Pauline I am so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all at this sad time.”

‘EVERY PARENT’S NIGHTMARE’

Castledawson councillor Denise Johnston said the tragedy was “a shock” to the community.

She told the Belfast Telegraph: “She was such a bright, intelligent young girl, who had so much to live for.

“For her parents, they will be living every parent’s nightmare, losing their only daughter.

“No-one can quite believe such a beautiful young life has been lost in such tragic circumstances.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police responded to a report in relation to a female in the water in the Castledawson area.

“Officers attended the scene, together with colleagues from other emergency services, where the female was rescued from the water.

“Sadly she later died in hospital. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”

Bear Grylls’ strapping son is the opposite of a nepo baby as he reveals very normal job to fund travels

Collage of Bear Grylls with his son and a young couple embracing.

BEAR Grylls’ strapping son proved that he is no nepo baby as his dad revealed his very normal job.

Proud papa Bear, 50, shared that his son is travelling the world and had worked hard to fund his trip.

The celebrity adventurer has three sons – Jesse, 21, Marmaduke, 18, and Huckleberry, 15 – who he shares with wife Shara.

It’s their middle child Marmaduke who has flown the nest and has been travelling the world.

But to fund his trip, and rather than asking his famous father for the cash, he took a job in a butcher’s shop to pay for his travels.

His mum and dad flew out to Australia to visit him before he headed off to his next exotic location.

Sharing the moment on Instagram, Bear posted a slew of pictures of himself and Marmaduke with wife Shara.

In the sweet snaps the TV star’s son can be seen towering over his dad.

The proud father then wrote next to the snaps: “So sad but also happy for Marmaduke – saying goodbye to him here in Australia as he heads to Asia for 4 months.

“He’s worked hard in a butchers in London, earned his way and is now going off for his own adventure… have fun, stay safe, come home soon. We miss you…”

Bear is returning to TV this week with Celebrity Bear Hunt..

The programme sees 12 celebrities dropped into the Costa Rican jungle, where they must fend for themselves and avoid capture by super-skilled Bear.

Boris Becker was forced to withdraw on medical grounds, while Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen feared he was having a heart attack

Conditions are so savage Netflix bosses had a team of survival experts and ambulances on standby, plus anti-venom injections in case contestants were attacked by poisonous snakes.

Stars including Mel B, Danny Cipriani and Big Zuu join Laurence and troubled tennis legend Boris, who was hoping to reignite his career following a stint behind bars for bankruptcy offences.

Speaking before joining the show, which is also hosted by Holly Willoughby, Boris said: “I survived prison.

“I wanna compare that to the wild.

“It is about overcoming and not falling down.”

But his time on the show was cut short when he picked up an injury on the first day.

Executive producer Ben Mitchell revealed: “Boris, after years of playing tennis, as you’d expect, he’s kind of ravaged by injury, so his mobility was impaired.

“He jarred his knee and we didn’t want him to risk causing any kind of further damage so he was shipped out, which was a real shame.”

Contestants who have slummed it on I’m A Celebrity will also be jealous when they see the Bear Hunt camp, where the stars stars.

Forget hammocks and meals of rice and bean, these celebs are treated to a fully stocked kitchen, booze, a yoga room, real beds, luxury showers and a proper loo.

A show insider told The Sun: “The camp is what you’d expect if a celebrity went glamping.

“There were all the creature comforts – even a secret smoking area round the back where all the real gossiping took place away from the cameras.”

Celebrity Bear Camp drops on Netflix at 8am on Wednesday.

Who is Kingfisher on The Masked Singer 2025?

FANS of The Masked Singer are stunned to find out the true identity of the Kingfisher.

In a double unmasking that aired on Saturday February 3, 2025 the secret identity of the Kingfisher and the Snail were revealed.

Who is Kingfisher on The Masked Singer 2025?

Kingfisher’s identity has remained a secret for weeks but in a shocking double unmasking the Kingfisher was revealed as Sir Grayson Perry.

The judges were shocked and as Perry removed his costume Davina McColl dropped into her seat, with her face full of disbelief.

Grayson Perry is and artist known for his ceramic vases, tapestries and cross-dressing.

During his first stint on The Masked Singer stage, the Kingfisher performed a rendition of The Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie.

The masked star has joined an impressive line-up of crazy characters who managed to fool the judges, including Toad in the Hole, Teeth, and Snail.

There are many characters left that are hoping to join the The Masked Singer winners list.

Celebrities including Danny Jones, Nicola Roberts, Natalie Imbruglia and Charlie Simpson have all been crowned winners of previous shows.

What were the clues?

As part of the popular guessing game, each masked star shares a selection of clues to help the judges and viewers uncover their identity.

Kingfisher’s hints included:

  • An East End accent
  • Dog treats
  • A blue fish
  • A net
  • A radio
  • A tag that reads Harry
  • Road map A to B
  • “There’s nothing better than a nice, relaxing day down by the water”
  • “I have caught a prince or two in my time”
  • Kingfisher said: “I’m no warbler, but I have been known to showcase my kingfisher chorus from time to time”
  • “I’m a colourful kingfisher who has led a colourful life”

Kingfisher also shared a riddle which read: ”Fishing and planting, digging and mowing, to reap the rewards, you’d better get sowing.”

Who did the Masked Singer judges think Kingfisher could be?

In a bid to unmask the star on a previous episode, judge Maya Jama threw Harry Redknapp into the mix and fellow judge Davina McCall suggested that Paul Whitehouse was hiding behind the costume.

The judges also believe that Kingfisher could be Chris Packham or Alan Titchmarsh.

Previous guesses from the panel included You’ve Been Framed legend Harry Hill, comedian Bob Mortimer, and Joe Lycett.

It was even suggested that Simon Cowell could be underneath.

Judge Mo Gilligan said: “I would’ve bet my house that that was Harry Hill.”

After fooling the judges Perry said: “I was playing that up massively because I know Harry Hill. I was playing (along), it’s fun, it’s a game!  I thought I’d play the role of being a TV comedian!

On being eliminated, he confessed to feeling ‘gutted’ to leave the show.

“I had two really lovely songs lined up for next week. I was going to sing Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins, and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the place!

“I’d already been practising. I could hardly get through without blubbing.

‘”And then I was going to do Stick Season by Noah Kahan. That’s a great song. Lots of words though. Very hard to learn but I had it nailed and I was really looking forward to it.”

Who did The Masked Singer fans think Kingfisher is?

Fans of the show are convinced that children’s TV star Simon Farnaby is the voice of Kingfisher.

Taking to X, one viewer wrote: “Kingfisher sounds like Simon Farnaby to #maskedsinger #MaskedSingerUk.”

A second said: ”Kingfisher is Simon Farnaby. Absolute FACT.”

Top guesses from fans so far is Simon Farnaby[/caption]

And a third fan added: ”Kingfisher sounds just like Simon Farnaby #maskedsinger.”

Fans have also since jumped on the nature link and suggested Paul Whitehouse’s Gone Fishing co-star Bob Mortimer could be behind the mask.

Most fans are convinced that Horrible Histories and Ghosts star Simon Farnaby is hiding behind the fishy costume.

Other fans have said that they are “100% sure” that Harry Hill is the disguised celebrity.

Those listening to the lyrics at home also predicted that comedian Harry Hill was behind the mask.

Sharing their theories online, one penned: ”That’s definitely Harry Hill, he has a good voice.”

And a second joked: ”Kingfisher is 100000% Harry Hill let’s stop guessing now I’ve cracked it x #TheMaskedSingerUK.”

Who has left The Masked Singer 2025 so far?

Much to the delight of telly fans, The Masked Singer is back in 2025.

Twelve celebrities have been hidden behind intricate costumes, with their identities concealed.

Sadly, not all of this year’s whacky and wonderful characters can make it to the end of the show, as there can only be one winner.

Here’s who has been unmasked so far:

Teeth – this character baffled judges and viewers with their changing voice. They were finally unmasked as former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc. None of the panel managed to guess it was her

Tattoo – despite Davina McCall saying “you sound the same” after this character was unmasked, none of the judges guessed it was 80s singer Carol Decker, whose hit China In Your Hand was a No1 hit for five weeks

Toad In The Hole – a massive diva strop saw the character storm off the stage after the judges voted them off. They later returned to be unmasked as singer Macy Gray

Pegasus – the mythical horse was revealed to be Prue Leith, with judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessing her identity

Spag Bol – this character was first to be unmasked and was none other than Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.

Plus there was one extra unmasking this season, with Giant Joel – a caricature of host Joel Dommett – unveiled as double-double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah.

Chelsea star arrives at court to stand trial after ‘racially abusing police officer in row over taxi fare’

CHELSEA star Sam Kerr has arrived at court to stand trial after allegedly racially abusing a police officer in a row over a taxi fare.

The 31-year-old is accused of lashing out at the cop in Twickenham, South West London, in January 2023.

Kerr, who is currently sidelined from Chelsea with an ACL injury, has arrived at Kingston Crown Court where she is due to stand trial.

The Australia international has pleaded not guilty to racially aggravated harassment.

Scotland Yard previously said: “Samantha Kerr, 30 (10.09.93) of Richmond was charged via postal charge requisition on 21 January with a racially aggravated offence under Section 4A Public Order Act 1986.

“The charge relates to an incident involving a police officer who was responding to a complaint involving a taxi fare on 30 January 2023 in Twickenham.”

Kerr has scored 99 goals in 128 matches since joining Chelsea in 2019.

During her time there, the team has won four Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups and the Women’s Community Shield.

But the striker was crocked in January last year at the club’s warm weather training camp in Morocco.

Kerr is her country’s all-time record goalscorer with 64 goals in 125 games for the Matildas.

She has also been nominated for the Ballon d’Or Féminin – the top prize in women’s football – every year since its inception in 2018.

Kerr is in a relationship with fellow footballer Kristie Mewis with the couple getting engaged last year.

They announced in November they are expecting a baby together.

I’m 54 & show off my tum & legs – trolls call me embarrassing & say I should be arrested, but I’m not a sexless granny

A 54-YEAR-OLD woman who has been branded ‘embarrassing’ for flashing her fit bod online has confidently hit back at cruel trolls.

Lou Featherstone regularly shares pictures and videos showing off her tum and legs to her 98,000 Instagram fans, earning cheers from women who love her bold and bright looks.

But despite this, recent videos of the ageless beauty boogying outdoors have caused a stir, with her comment sections swamped with pleas to dress more.

Not only this, but some slammed her age, called her ‘embarrassing’ and others said she should be ‘arrested’.

While not all are keen on her flaunting her stuff on the streets, Lou reckons it’s all for empowerment – for herself and other women.

The Londoner spilled to What’s The Jam: “My whole mission is to empower women to be themselves, find their confidence, and embrace their power in midlife.

“It’s such a huge time of transition, and menopause is a journey.

“I try to inspire and motivate women to turn this next chapter into the best time of their lives instead of the dry, sexless, painful, grief-filled chapter we’re told it will be.”

Lou’s method to help inspire and motivate women might be a little different to the norm, as she wants to prove that mature women don’t have to be ‘boring’.

The content creator, who often shares fun and daring content online, was recently stopped in her tracks after a company offered her a shower chair – a device often associated with those of geriatric age.

But instead of being offended, Lou decided to take it in her stride, as she shared: “Initially, I said no to the job because I didn’t think I was old enough for a shower chair – and honestly, I was a bit insulted!

“But then I realised that if I was truly about busting age myths, I couldn’t only do it while I was fit and healthy.

“I’m either authentic in my message or not.

“So I took the job and decided to take the chair down to the local fountain in the park and recreate the most iconic shower scene I could think of – Flashdance!”

Keyboard warriors out in full force

The cheeky clip quickly went viral and has now racked up 250,000 views.

But while many people commented with praise, mean trolls were also out in full force.

One said: “Put clothes on, please. Eww.”

Not everyone wants to dance in a fountain in public – I do it to inspire and show people what’s possible

Lou Featherstone

Another jibed: “Someone arrest her.”

Whilst someone else commented: “Great to do this, but please cover up the old body… ya ain’t in yer 20s, love!”

At the same time, a fourth growled: “I don’t want to see your bare nanna cheeks.”

‘We have to stop tearing each other apart’

Lou has now defended her ‘shower scene’ shenanigans and noted that most of the mean comments came from fellow women.

But the Instagram user has used this to fuel her mission to express the benefits of self-love and accepting others, all while condemning the “outdated” comments.

The 5 Best Body Positive Influencers To Follow

  1. @_nelly_london – Nelly has been on a journey with breast corrective surgery and has also shared her experience with eating disorders, her honesty and openness makes her a great follow.
  2. @lottiedryna – She regularly shares content on living with IBS and finds bloat-friendly outfits to share with her followers.
  3. @stephanieyeboah –  Stephanie Yeboah’s body positive content has the most incredible message – everyone is worthy of being loved, plus she has the best fashion inspo going.
  4. @isabelladavis6 – Bella’s content spans more than just body image and is ideal for women wanting a community of women supporting women.
  5. @jessontheplussize – She advocates for women wearing what they want no matter their body shape.

She admitted: “The comments were horrendous. The worst part? Most of them came from women.

“Our internalised patriarchy has set us up in competition with each other. If we expect men to respect us, we have to stop tearing each other apart.

“I’m a self-love and confidence coach, and so many women are crippled with fear and anxiety because they worry about what others think.

“They live half a life, fearful of judgement, while sitting in judgement of another woman who’s living her best life.

“Not everyone wants to dance in a fountain in public – I do it to inspire and show people what’s possible.

“We are steeped in shame and fear, handed a rulebook as children about how a woman should behave and act.

UK’s longest train route with 36 stops across the country to be cancelled for good

THE longest train ride in the UK that takes around 14 hours will be cancelled this year.

Travelling from Penzance to Aberdeen, the Crosscountry route will no longer go ahead from May.

The longest route from Penzance to Aberdeen is 775 miles long[/caption]

The once-daily route is the longest single train ride in the country, travelling 775 miles with 26 stops along the way.

First starting in 1921, it was only reinstated back in 2023 after it was paused in the pandemic.

However from May 2025 this will be scrapped, with the new longest route ending in Edinburgh rather than Aberdeen.

This will reduce the route by 80 miles, to 695 miles instead.

A Crosscountry spokesperson told local media: “The changes will mean a more convenient service to Penzance for customers; a day trip from Bristol and the west of England become much more viable thanks to the new timetable.

“There will also be considerable operational efficiencies for us arising from the newly-timed services.”

The once-daily new route will leave from Penzance at 11:15am, arriving in Edinburgh at 10:15pm.

Some of the stops include Taunton, Cheltenham, Derby, York and Newcastle.

And some of the most scenic sites along the way include in Bamburgh Castle and the Dawlish seawall.

Tickets could be found for as little as £78.60 each way if booked in advance.

If you want one of the shortest train rides in the UK you can head to Stourbridge with a tiny one-carriage train operating just 0.8 miles.

And experts have revealed the most scenic train route in the UK to be the Scottish West Highland Line.

The UK is also getting a number of new train routes, including:

  • Cardiff to Edinburgh, taking around six hours
  • Oxford to Bristol, the first direct route since 2003
  • Oxford to Cambridge, by 2030

Here is how train travel has changed in the past 200 years in the UK.

If you want the world’s longest train journey it could be done in 21 days, travelling 12,000 miles from Portugal to Singapore.

With 20 trains needed, the overall cost was estimated to be around £1,000.

Sun Travel's favourite train journeys in the world

Sun Travel's journalists have taken their fare share of train journeys on their travels and here they share their most memorable rail experiences.

Davos to Geneva, Switzerland

“After a ski holiday in Davos, I took the scenic train back to Geneva Airport. The snow-covered mountains and tiny alpine villages that we passed were so beautiful that it felt like a moving picture was playing beyond the glass.” – Caroline McGuire

Tokyo to Kyoto by Shinkansen

“Nothing quite beats the Shinkansen bullet train, one of the fastest in the world. It hardly feels like you’re whizzing along at speed until you look outside and see the trees a green blur. Make sure to book seat D or E too – as you’ll have the best view of Mount Fuji along the way.” Kara Godfrey

London to Paris by Eurostar

“Those who have never travelled on the Eurostar may wonder what’s so special about a seemingly ordinary train that takes you across the channel. You won’t have to waste a moment and can tick off all the top attractions from the Louvre to the Champs-Élysées which are both less than five kilometres from the Gare du Nord.” – Sophie Swietochowski

Glasgow to Fort William by Scotrail

“From mountain landscapes and serene lochs to the wistful moors, I spent my three-hour journey from Glasgow to Fort William gazing out the window. Sit on the left-hand side of the train for the best views overlooking Loch Lomond.” – Hope Brotherton
