Man City agree to £50m deal for Porto star Nico Gonzalez as Pep Guardiola takes January transfer splurge to £177MILLION
MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly agreed to sign Nico Gonzalez in a £50million deadline day transfer from Porto.
Pep Guardiola has already splashed the cash on three first team stars this month.

Abdukodir Khusanov joined in a £34m move from RC Lens, while Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis completed a swap from Palmeiras.
And forward Omar Marmoush became the club’s most expensive signing of the window when he finalised a £64m transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, following City’s latest blow – which came in the form of a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal – Guardiola has pushed to complete one last deal.
Fabrizio Romano claims the reigning Premier League champions have reached a £50m agreement with Porto for the transfer of Gonzalez, a central midfielder.
The 23-year-old will likely fly to Manchester today to finalise the move, sign his contract and complete a medical.
Gonzalez officially joined Porto from Barcelona in 2023 and has since made 68 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists.
Prior to his move to Portugal, he spent two years in Barca’s first team and made 37 appearances.
Guardiola admitted his City players were “fragile” following their defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

He said: “The feeling is why we have not done in the last 20, 25 minutes what we had done well for the first 60.
“Now we have to reflect and talk with the players and hope that it doesn’t happen again.
“It can be fragile because it happens so many times. But we have a duty to learn and there are always margins to get better.
“It’s happened all season, we are giving away too many things, we are aware this cannot happen, it happened.”

A source told The Sun: “Lucinda was asked to come and do Love Island again and she was really ready to give it another go.
“But she ended up being in holding for too long and wasn’t happy about it.
“She decided it would be too late for her to go in and make a connection.
“It was a tough call but she decided to head home.
“She thinks it’s for the best and this season just wasn’t for her.”
And now Lucinda has shared a very cryptic post, in which she confirms that this year Love Island: All Stars “wasn’t for her”.
A video of her in a car beaming with excitement and happiness was shared on TikTok with a very defiant message.

The short and upbeat clip got tongues wagging in the comment section, with one person saying: “The mountain in the background looks familiar, are you sure??”
CHANGED HER MIND
Someone then speculated: “I think she was going to go on but has changed her mind now so she’s leaving.”
While a third said: “Camps Bay/Clifton are very distinct.”
A fourth then echoed that the area she was driving through looked familiar when they said: “Ya we know Cape Town lol.”
“Next year girl,” said a fifth.
While a sixth penned: Maybe she wanted Scott and now he’s gone.”

During her time on the show Lucinda was coupled up with three different guys including Danny Bibby, Brad McClelland and Aaron Francis.
After her UK Love Island stint, Lucinda headed down under for Love Island Australia around one year ago.
Entering the Aussie villa on day two, she was then crowned runner-up on day 29 alongside then-beau Zac Nunns.

Who is Robert Brown and what happened to his ex-wife Joanna?
ROBERT Brown killed his ex-wife Joanna Simpson in a crime that rocked Britain.
His horrifying killing will be explored in Channel 5’s A Killer Makes a Call, which airs on February 4, 2025.
![A wedding couple at their ceremony.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/newspress-collage-xqbr6w3e8-1738601763814.jpg?1738601799&strip=all&w=960)
Making a monster
Brown is thought to have been born in either 1964 and 1965 and was raised in Edinburgh.
His father worked in shipyards while his mother worked at the Bank of Scotland.
While growing up in Scotland, Brown became a three-time UK trail-running champion.
He grew up to become a pilot, having wanted to fly planes since he was a child.
Brown piloted long-haul flights between San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hong Kong while working for British Airways.
Marrying Joanna Simpson
Brown met Joanna Simpson after she divorced her first husband.
Her parents immediately took a dislike to Brown when they met him on the Isle of Man, having reportedly found him “rude” and “arrogant”.
Joanna and Brown moved in together in September 1998 and got engaged on Christmas Day that year.
They tied the knot in Ascot on February 13, 1999, despite Joanna’s parents protesting the match.
Joanna reportedly phoned her parents from her honeymoon in Cape Town and said that the marriage had been a mistake.
Two months later, Brown discovered that she was pregnant and gave birth to her first child in December 1999.
Joanna had another baby in May 2001.
Brown’s evil crime
In January 2007, Joanna went to a solicitor after Brown accused her of having an affair.
Eventually, the couple split and Joanna was encouraged by the outcome Radmacher v Granatino case which saw prenups being seen as enforceable in the UK.
Her parents had encouraged her to sign a prenup with Brown.
However, Joanna was killed by Brown on October 31, 2010.
Brown buried his Joanna in Windsor Great Park, after dropping his children off at his pregnant girlfriend’s house.
The killer phoned the police about a “serious domestic incident” and was arrested on suspicion of being involved in Joanna’s death.
He accompanied police when they recovered Joanna’s body from the woodland area in Windsor Great Park.
Brown was diagnosed by the defence psychiatrist as having an adjustment disorder, which involves a “maladaptive response” to a stressor.
He was eventually found guilty of manslaughter, but not guilty of murder.
The killer became eligible for parole halfway through his sentence but was met with a widespread campaign against his release.
Labour MP Jess Phillips was one of the most prominent people leading the charge to keep Brown behind bars.
Eventually, it was stated that Brown would not be automatically released and he was unable to overturn the decision.

A Killer Makes a Call
Brown’s terrifying crime will be examined in the Channel 5 documentary A Killer Makes a Call.
The hour-and-a-half episode will feature exclusive interviews with people who helped bring Brown to justice.
Viewers can watch the episode when it airs on February 4, 2025, at 10pm.

The old Kop was knocked down in January 2023 and replaced with a temporary structure, but a new stand is finally on the way after a couple of setbacks including planning permission being denied by the council on environmental grounds.
Designed by world-renowned firm Populous, who worked on Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, the new stand will embody Wrexham – the city and the club.
It will have a 5,500 capacity with potential to increase further, and includes safe standing.
There will also be accessible seating, hospitality and include player and official facilities, so fans will be able to welcome their team onto the pitch through a player tunnel in the stand.
It will also be built in compliance with Uefa Category 4 stadium requirements, which means it will be able to host European Under-19 Championship matches in 2026, with the tournament hosted by Wales.
Wrexham state the design of the stand will amplify noise created by supporters and it will be high enough for fans to see it from the city centre.
The exterior pays tribute to the city’s “Terracottapolis” nickname, with the brickwork reminiscent of the red brick used in the local are.
It will also feature two dragons carved into the brick, representing the two dragons on the Wrexham crest.

Michael Williamson, Wrexham CEO, said: “The new Kop Stand marks a special moment in the history of the STōK Cae Ras, allowing us to restore the traditional four-sided enclosure of the stadium, providing new and improved facilities and experiences for our fans and visitors to the stadium alike.
“The distinctive design of the new Kop Stand embodies the history and heritage of Wrexham – rooted in the local community creating a timeless, authentic piece of civic architecture that complements other landmarks.
“It will provide an iconic landmark standing at the gateway to the city giving it a true sense of place.
“The stand reflects the key role the football club can play in the rejuvenation and redevelopment of the city through its role in the Wrexham Gateway Project.
“The upgrading of facilities to meet UEFA Category 4 specifications are central to our wider vision of bringing international sport back to Wrexham and the benefit this will bring to the local community of hosting these events in North Wales.”
