It’s been a rough month for the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds. First, the giant frog-like creature had the unfortunate honor of being the game’s introductory punching bag monster. And as if our collective beating of it wasn’t enough then, it’s about to get even worse.

Capcom has turned it into the star of a new event quest. And the quest essentially encourages hunters to farm it into extinction. The new Tongue-Tied event runs from 11-18 March and offers rare Armor Spheres as rewards. So we can just imagine that the Chatacabra is about to endure another brutal week at the hands of eager players.
Capcom is putting the Chatacabra population in danger

Since Monster Hunter Wilds launched on February 28, the Chatacabra has been subjected to an almost extinction-level hunting spree. Considering the fact that the game has sold more than 8 million copies, we can assume that it has been beaten down by us players a little too far.

The funniest part is that most players have probably moved on to hunting other monsters. But Capcom has now brought us all back with the Tongue-Tied for earning some valuable Hard and Advanced Armor Spheres. Given how rare and valuable these items are, the event is an enticing grind for hunters.
Armor Spheres are notoriously difficult to farm in Monster Hunter Wilds and we most get them as quest rewards. Advanced Armor Spheres provide 200 upgrade points, while Hard Armor Spheres give a massive 1,000 points. These items are essential for maxing out higher-tier armor. Since the quest can be repeated before its expiration on March 18, hunters have been relentlessly farming it.

Despite being labeled as a Tempered monster for the event quest, the Chatacabra isn’t exactly striking fear into the hearts of players. It has been given more health and deals increased damage, but its basic attack patterns are still the same, so we can just repeat the same tactics against it.
The post-launch content train is already running

The community response has been both amused and ruthless. Many players on social media and Reddit have joked about the Chatacabra’s bad luck, with some comparing it to Monster Hunter: World’s Greatest Jagras event. Regardless, no one has refused all the free upgrade materials from this event quest.
The Tongue-Tied quest is part of Monster Hunter Wilds’ ongoing post-launch support, with Capcom rolling out weekly event quests and additional DLC. Once this event ends on March 18, a new set of event quests, including Ballet in the Rain, Sand-Scarred Soul, and Like a Fire Hidden by Sand. These new quests will have a new and unique set of rewards.
Capcom has also confirmed that a free spring update will introduce Mizutsune, a fan-favorite monster, alongside new content and additional event quests. So we can expect post-launch support for Monster Hunter Wilds to be just as good as Monster Hunter World. Let’s just hope the poor Chatacabra is left alone for a while after this.
