BRITAIN’S drive to Net Zero by 2050 is an impossible fantasy which will bankrupt the country or drive down living standards, Kemi Badenoch will warn today.
The Tory leader will claim politicians of all stripes are misleading voters and have yet to produce a full plan of how to go carbon-free.
She will say the UK is “falling between two stools” of high costs and too little progress.
Her intervention comes as Tory insiders claim her leadership has failed to gain pace in the face of the threat of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.
Ms Badenoch will say: “I badly want to leave a much better environmental inheritance for my children and for yours.
“But it doesn’t look like the West is going to get remotely close to Net Zero by 2050.
“This is what happens when politics turns into fantasy.”
Ms Badenoch will outline how she will tell the truth about the eco plan, warning: “It can’t be achieved without a serious drop in our living standards or by bankrupting us.”
She will add: “We need to be honest with the public who think that Labour have a plausible plan. They do not.”
