Bleach: Is Aizen More Powerful Than Ichigo?

Bleach has a lot of strong characters; the series is full of fights that get bigger and better with time. As the power level is scaled up, the best are separated from the rest, and sometimes, it makes us wonder who among them is stronger.

This is especially so when it comes to the notorious antagonist and traitor, Sōsuke Aizen, and the brave and righteous protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki. In Tite Kubo’s Bleach, the question of whether Sōsuke Aizen is stronger than Ichigo Kurosaki is extremely complex, as their power dynamics keep shifting.

We need to pinpoint at which point we need the information to ascertain the stronger one. Let us delve in and understand this.

Aizen had the initial superiority

Sōsuke Aizen begins as the captain of the 5th Division in the Gotei 13, renowned for his intelligence and mastery of Kido. He betrays and plots against Soul Society and embraces the dark side of the Hollows.

When he showed up, Aizen was stronger than Ichigo (even if he did put up a good fight against the other captains). Then, he integrates himself with the Hōgyoku and undergoes several transformations, amplifying his power exponentially.

During this period, Aizen’s strength is one of the highest in the entire series, and he also has quasi-immortality granted by the Hōgyoku, making him an invincible opponent.

Ichigo Kurosaki’s journey is marked by continuous growth. Being the protagonist, Ichigo is thrown into danger constantly, and to protect his friends and loved ones, he keeps getting stronger.

Ichigo is the protagonist who evolves step by step

Ichigo is not a normal human or a Soul Reaper. Initially deemed a human with latent spiritual abilities, he becomes a formidable Shinigami, and it is found out that he has Hollow-related powers very soon.

A little later, we also come to know of his Quincy heritage. The decisive point of comparing Aizen and Ichigo’s strength lies in their epic battles. Ichigo trains to achieve the ‘Final Getsuga Tensho’ technique. This power is massive and lets him face off on equal grounds against Aizen.

Aizen puts up a tough fight but ultimately is defeated by Ichigo, proving once and for all that he has been surpassed. After this, Kisuke Urahara seals Aizen (since he cannot be killed). It is thought that he will never awaken.

But Yhwach is an adversary on a scale that is so massive that Aizen seemed to be a small risk to take. Unsealing Aizen after almost two years meant that he hadn’t advanced in his strength even a little while Ichigo was constantly getting stronger.

Aizen is definitely more inclined to use his wits, but when it comes to raw power and strength, there is no doubt that Ichigo Kurosaki is the sure-shot winner. And we know that he will only keep getting stronger!
