The ‘kidwalk’ nepo babies taking over the catwalk & why they’re causing even MORE controversy than their famous parents

THEY say it’s not what you know, but who you know.

And when it comes to the world of fashion it’s never been more vital for rising stars.

For wannabe models, hearing tales of models like Jourdan Dunn being scouted by a top modelling agency in her local Primark or Kate Moss being discovered at an airport is a mere dream.

A chance that their leggy teenager selves could be plucked from obscurity and thrust into the glittering fashion world.

But those young hopefuls will never get a look in as nepo babies have swept the industry.

At this week’s Couture Fashion Week in Paris attention has been pulled away from intricate, one of a kind pieces that take months to create by hand and the focus has been on the nepo children of A-List celebrities.

The fashion industry and its loyal followers have been enraged this week with the arrival of models and front row guests of elitist off spring, spotted at prestigious fashion shows like Chanel, Saint Laurent and Valentino.

And the handbags are out.

Whilst being a nepo baby model is nothing new, think the likes of nineties supermodel Cindy Crawford daughter Kaia Gerber and Kate Moss’ daughter Lila Moss, this year celebrities spawn has flooded Paris.

Fellow supermodel icon, Heidi Klum, not only has her daughter Leni, 20, controversially modelled alongside her in a lingerie advert brand Intimissmi, which lead people to question: “Which normal mom would pose together with her daughter in lingerie?”

But now the Victoria’s Secret angel has another child taking on the fashion world.

Her son Henry Samuel, 19, whose father is musician Seal, made his catwalk debut this week at the Lena Erziak Haute Couture show.

Draped in all black suiting on lookers swooned at his good looks and modelling skills as he strutted down the runway.

Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon grabbed headlines at Saint Laurent for appearing in a black lace body stocking with nothing underneath but her briefs.

The 28-year-old, who goes by the name Lola, tried to keep the winter chill off by draping a black leather trench coat over her mostly-nude body.

Having walked in catwalk shows for Versace and Marine Serre, Lourdes is no stranger to the fashion pack.

But Lourdes isn’t the only of Madonna’s brood to be at fashion week, in September 2024 her oldest son, David Banda, 18, strided down the catwalk at Off-Whites show in New York.

Another big name in showbiz, Kylie Jenner, shocked fashion lovers by managing to bag a front row seat at Chanel’s fashion show this week

The 27-year-old business mogul, reality star and daughter of Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner, who has also been seen this week dining in Paris with boyfriend Timothee Chalamet, wowed in a signature Chanel tweed two-piece paired with mini bag and cat-eye sunglasses.

Whilst this isn’t her first appearance at Couture Week, following appearances at Schiparelli including that Lion head dress, she is the first of her famous family to sit front row at a Chanel runway show.

Other ‘frow’ goers this week include Tali Lennox, daughter of singer Annie Lenoux.

Following in his parents footsteps the 22-year-old took the runway in a bizarre outfit of too-tight polo shirt, low slung baggy jeans and oversized trainers.

Victoria, who famously took to the catwalk for the first time in 2000 at London Fashion Week and David Beckham who is also no stranger to the fashion world with his own clothing ranges at H&M as well as modelling for brands like Armani.

BGT presenter Amanda Holden’s daughter Lexi Hughes, 19, also made her first runway appearance last year.

She wowed London Fashion Week attendees at Vietnamese designer Tran Hung’s show wearing a cream mini dress embellished with large flowers.

Model Ella Emhoff has a very influential step-mum, Kamala Harris

Even former Vice President Kamala Harris’s step-daughter, Ella Emhoff, 25, has taken the catwalk numerous times fashion houses Coach and Balenciaga.

Whilst undoubtedly the famous kids have enormous influence and ability to shine a light on brands with armies of millions of loyal followers that brands would be stupid to turn away.

And of course with their inherited good looks and model genes flowing through their veins, they are an easy choice.

However, they haven’t had to work tirelessly for years like their parents or other models trying to make it in the brutal industries.

Most models have to go through castings (and rejection), fittings, starting at the bottom, doing 24-hour days and battling with strict diets and fitness regimes.

No wonder people are up in arms about the over-saturation of nepo babies turning the catwalk into the ‘kidwalk’.

And aside from taking jobs that should go to hard-working models, these celebrity children are taking the shine off the clothes, too.

Truffert is rated in the £20million bracket and the Toffees could find the money for him.

Moyes is keen on a loan first but unlikely to get him that way.

Other top-flight clubs want the wing-back but the Goodison Park strugglers have come on strong and will try to close the deal before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Truffert debuted for Rennes in 2020 after coming through the Ligue 1 club’s academy.

He has gone on to play 176 times for the Red and Blacks.

Truffert earned his France debut in September 2022 during a clash with Denmark.

The wing-back received the call-up following an injury to former Everton favourite Lucas Digne.

Adesanya’s fighting future was thrown into major doubt thanks to a second-round KO defeat, which prompted scores of fans to call for him to hang up his gloves.

But the fan favourite has hinted he’s far from done in the octagon.

Along with a video of the aftermath of the bout, he wrote on Instagram: “Rolled the dice…snake eyes.

“I’ll be back, gone to get some milk.”

Fan favourite Adesanya was initially unsure of his future in the immediate aftermath of the defeat.

“I don’t know [what’s next for me],” he told ESPN. “I have to chill and think about things. I’ll relax a little bit.

“Help the team-mates that have fights coming up and see what I wanna do.

“I was going to that anyway, but now I’m forced to. Shoutout to Nassourdine for that.”

I got a ridiculous £320 fine for taking my kids on holiday in term time – but the trip was educational in my opinion

A MUM has shared her shock after receiving an “absolutely ridiculous” fine for taking her kids on a term time holiday.

Danielle Sands and her partner received a total fine of £320 for taking their three kids away on the “once in a lifetime” trip.

And they aren’t the only ones who have taken the risk of a term time holiday – as more and more parents would rather face penalisation than the extortionate costs of a holiday during the school break.

The Department for Education (DfE) revealed statistics that showed 443,322 fines were issues for unauthorised school time holidays in 2023/24 – a sharp increase from the 356,181 the previous year.

Posting a video to her TikTok account, @daniellemsands23, Danielle said she’d hoped the school would see the family trip was educational, and she’d written to them to detail the tours and activities they had planned before jetting off.

While in Lapland, the children were taken to see the Northern Lights, and learned about the science behind them – taking a book along with them with information on the earth’s magnetic currents.

They’d also taken a husky safari and gone snowmobiling, where they learnt about the historic importance of dog sledding and the different means of travel in Finland.

They family had seen reindeer, gone skiing and ice skating, and crossed the Arctic circle – all activities Danielle felt developed her kids’ education.

“It’s something that my children was never ever gonna gain by sitting in a classroom,” she said, “children would only ever get to read this from a textbook.”

But when the family returned home, the parents were disappointed to see they had been slapped with a fine.

Danielle said her partner works many long hours, often at work by the time their children wake up and back after their bed time, and she questioned when their “family time was allowed”.

She said the couple have accepted that for future holidays they will just have to “play the game” and book during inset days or bank holidays.

And Danielle isn’t the only mother who’s been penalised for a term-time trip.

Self-professed bad mum Whitney Ainscough jetted off on two family holidays during school time last year – despite risking a criminal record.

The social media influencer known as @itsmebadmom on TikTok was ‘fuming’ when she received a £60 fine in the post on 26th July 2024 for her June holiday from her eldest’s school.

Whitney said she paid the fine for her first holiday but on 17 January opened a letter that she assumed was a second fine, only to find she might be facing a criminal record for taking her children out of school.

Now Whitney is planning to take them to Euro Disney during term time, a trip she also claims is educational.

The DfE website says: “Every moment in school counts and days missed add up quickly.

“Evidence shows that pupils who have good attendance enjoy better wellbeing and school performance than those who don’t.

“In the majority of cases, schools and local authorities will try and provide support to help you improve your child’s attendance first, but if this isn’t effective or the absence is for unauthorised term time holiday, parents may face paying a fine.”

What school fines can parents receive?

THE main issue that can lead to parents receiving a fine is missing school.

Currently, it’s the decision of the local council whether or not to issue a parent a fine for their child missing school.

However, from August this year, the fine for absences will up to the school to consider – when a child has missed 10 or more sessions for unauthorised reasons.

And the fine will be £80 if paid within 21 days, or £160 if paid within 28 days – this is issued to EACH parent.

It’s the first time the fine has been increased since 2012, and is in line with inflation.

If a parent receives a second fine for the same child within three years, this will automatically be charged at the higher rate of £160.

Fines will be capped at two fines within a three-year period.

After this limit has been reached, prosecution or a parenting order may be considered.

According to the official government website, there are only five reasons your child should be absent from school if the school is open.

These are as follows:

  1. Your child is too ill to attend that day
  2. You have asked in advance and been given permission by the school for your child to be absent on that day due to exceptional circumstances
  3. Your child cannot attend school on that day because it is a day you are taking part in religious observance
  4. Your local authority is responsible for arranging your child’s transport to school and it is not available on that day or has not been provided yet
  5. You are a gypsy/traveller family with no fixed abode, and you are required to travel for work that day meaning your child cannot attend their usual school

How Dragon’s Den reject turned investment snub into successful haircare brand stocked in Boots and making £6.5m revenue

A DRAGON’S Den reject has revealed her company is projected to generate £6.5 MILLION revenue this year.

Lucie Macleod, 24, failed to secure £190,000 investment in exchange for a 3% equity stake in her TikTok-viral haircare company, Hair Syrup.

The business is set to make £6.5 MILLION revenue in the coming financial year[/caption]

But it turns out that the young entrepreneur didn’t need the dragons after all.

Following her three hour interrogation on the show in July, Hair Syrup continued selling like hot cakes and even landed in Boots in October.

Lucie dreamt up the business in 2019 while studying English Literature at the University of Warwick – and has since fulfilled over 250,000 orders.

She was frustrated with her “unhealthy, frazzled hair after years of bleaching and heat damage” but struggled to find an affordable product that could hydrate her locks and nourish her scalp.

The haircare entrepreneur began mixing ingredients in her student kitchen and, after countless hours of effort, actually found a formula that “completely revitalised” her hair.

In May 2020, Lucie posted her findings on TikTok to her three followers, and the video ended up raking in more than 600,000 views.

People began begging her for bottles of the miracle oil, so Lucie, from Pembrokeshire, set up shop in her parent’s conservatory during the pandemic and used TikTok to promote her products.

She was making big bucks in a matter of months.

“I spent about 10 hours a day packing,” she told Fabulous in 2023. “I was up every night until 2am. It was very stressful, and obviously with my degree it was very, very hard.”

Hair Syrup is one of the video sharing app’s most popular brands, with the business’ page having over 325,000 followers at the time of writing.

“Within six months it was going really nuts, literally just from TikTok,” Lucie said.

“The sales started coming in really quick and in the first month, I’d hit 100 sales, which is a lot considering it was something I was doing out of a conservatory.

“It was literally just me packing and sending everything out. When it was busy, every week was a 90 hour week.”

BBC came knocking in early 2024 after noticing Lucie’s online success, and she presented to the dragons (the panel of investors on BBC’s Dragon’s Den) in July.

Dragons' Den stars - past and present

Dragons' Den has been on our screens since 2005 and sees entrepreneurs enter the Den to try and win investment for their businesses from the Dragons.

Over the years there have been many wealthy investors sitting in the famous seats, here’s a rundown of them all and how long they were on the show for.

“I felt like the brand was getting really big and a little bit out of my control and above what I could handle,” she said.

“I thought I’d love to have a dragon on board to help me take the brand in a new direction.”

But when she was under the lights, Lucie found the pitching process “very intense” and not what she expected it to be.

Investment juggernaut Deborah Meaden forensically questioned the profitability and dividends of Hair Syrup, causing the other dragons to bow out – including beauty mogul Trinny Woodall.

I spent about 10 hours a day packing. I was up every night until 2am

However, fashion retail entrepreneur Touker Suleyman made a last-minute offer.

He proposed investing £190,000 for a 3% stake, but only if he could get his investment back in three months while keeping his equity in the company.

Lucie accepted the offer, despite the other dragons inferring her not to.

Then, Touker shockingly withdrew, forcing the young entrepreneur to walk out of the den empty handed.

Lucie has turned her unsuccessful pitch on the BBC show into hilarious TikTok content[/caption]

After Lucie’s rejection on Dragon’s Den in summer last year, Hair Syrup has gone from strength to strength.

It is now stocked in Boots – something Lucie says has been a dream since starting in 2020 – and has a team of 14 staff, as well as two warehouse units in Pembrokeshire.

Hair Syrup is on track for £6.5 million revenue in the coming financial year.

Not only that, but Lucie has turned her unsuccessful pitch on the BBC show into hilarious TikTok content.

“They were harsh girl, I’d have been sobbing if I was you,” one customer joked in the comments of one video.

“Even though they didn’t invest, the lessons you take away will probably be more valuable then you realise,” another assured.
