Katherine Ryan admits she hired a midwife to queue up at 4am for Taylor Swift tickets for her daughter

KATHERINE Ryan is no stranger to taking a bit of criticism over her parenting style – especially since showcasing the behind-the-scenes of her family in reality show At Home With Katherine Ryan.

But that hasn’t stopped the mother-of-three from going above and beyond for her children, especially teenage daughter Violet, who is at the focus of series two of the UKTV hit.

The star returns for a second series of her reality show this month[/caption]

So much so, that she hired someone to stand in a queue to make sure her eldest child had the best view possible at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour last summer, and keep her happy.

Katherine admitted: “I want to give everyone in my life a premium experience.

“I know people will be taken aback that I hired a midwife to queue at 4am at Wembley as a placeholder.

“But a midwife is the perfect person for the job, because she’s on call, and if someone needs antenatal care in that queue, she’s there.

“It’s just the way I’ve always been with her, Violet and I had many wonderful adventures and I just want to keep that up, even though I do keep cutting her inheritance down every nine months.”

The new series delves deeper than ever into Katherine and husband Bobby Kootstra‘s life at home with children Violet, Fred and Fenna.

One scene sees Katherine break down in tears addressing her relationship with daughter Violet, 15 – who she admits she keeps happy to make sure she remains at the family home.

She continued: “I just don’t want Violet to leave on bad terms or prematurely – and before Bobby came into our lives, we did exist in this benevolent democracy.

“We were like sisters, and then her life has changed so much in the last five years so I don’t like to say no to her.

“I kind of resist it, I don’t know why I should say no to her – I still struggle with that and we haven’t solved that in the series.

“It just makes for an interesting jumping off point for conversations to happen in the UK when people watch it – and I don’t mind being a catalyst for conversation.”

At Home With Katherine Ryan’s second series airs weekly from February 10 at 9pm on U&W.

Dail chaos avoided as Micheal Lowry says ‘time to get on with work’ after Murphy ruling ends speaking rights row

A REPEAT of last month’s Dail chaos has been avoided after Michael Lowry conceded defeat in his bid to act as opposition while also backing the government.

Leaders from the real opposition parties were today celebrating after a ruling from Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy pushed Lowry and three other Independent TDs into the Government back benches.

The election of Micheal Martin as Taoiseach was delayed by one day last month following a Dail rebellion from Sinn Fein, Labour, the Social Democrats, People Before Profit and Independent Ireland.

These parties were furious at an attempt by Micheal Lowry and three other Independent TDs to bag extra speaking time in the Dail by pretending to be opposition while still backing the Government.

A repeat of the shambolic shouting matches between TDs had been expected when Dail returned today after two weeks of negotiations failed to agree a path forward.

However, Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy has ended the row with an 11th hour ruling that declares Lowry and the three other TDs can not form part of an opposition grouping to speak in the Dail.

The Ceann Comairle highlighted comments from Lowry and the other TDs about backing the Government through thick and thin and claimed this means they can not act as opposition in the Dail.

The ruling is a strong move from Verona Murphy who credits Micheal Lowry with helping her to secure the coveted role of Ceann Comhairle.

Tipperary TD Lowry today conceded defeat in the long running row as he said it is “time now to get on with the work.”

He said: “The Ceann Comhairle has made a ruling. We accept the ruling.

“I think what the ruling does is highlight the urgent necessity for Dail reform.

“We now have a situation where four independent members are being specifically named who are supportive of government and obviously their needs have to be accommodated.

“The Government are going to have to review this decision.”

He said the Dail Reform Committee must come up with proposals to enable independents who support governments in the future to get speaking time.

However, Labour’s Alan Kelly claimed that these comments are only an attempt to “save face” from Lowry and Co as he hailed the Ceann Comhairle decision as a win for opposition parties.

He said: “It’s a big day for this Dail.

“It is a big day for this Government because it has been an absolute disaster for them the way in which they’ve commenced.

“I’m delighted that this farce has come to an end.

“The farce is over. The show is over as regards to this issue.”

Deputy Kelly said Michael Lowry, Barry Heneghan, Gillian Toole and Danny Healy Rae must now move to the Government benches and speak in Government time in the same way backbench Green Party TDs did in the last coalition.

Deputy Kelly added: “This was a stroke too far. Micheal Martin got this so, so, so wrong and there was an arrogance in that.”

Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald said the Government have been forced into a “very significant climbdown” after weeks of defending the attempt by TDs to play both sides of the House.

A major bonus is the shed at the bottom of the garden[/caption]

Featuring three bedrooms and one bathroom, the semi-detached property is ideal as an investment or a starter home.

It boasts a great location, a back garden complete with a spacious shed, and ample front-of-house parking.

The seller warned that the property won’t be available for long and said it offers exceptional value for money.

On entering the property, guests are greeted by a bright hallway with wooden flooring.

From there, you can access the living room, kitchen, dining room, and downstairs bedroom.

The downstairs bedroom is an inviting and cosy space complete with a large front facing window which allows natural light to pour in.

It also has a statement wall with a built in fireplace as well as laminate wood flooring.

Through folding double doors, you can then access the living room, which is ideal for families.

The large space features a fitted fireplace with a wooden surround, and specially built storage and TV units.

It has plenty of convenient built-in storage, so the floor is an open space for seating and tables.

Through another small hallway is the kitchen, complete with a tiled floor and blue-tiled backsplash along the walls.

Offering plenty of counter space, the room has cupboards built at eye and waist level for convenience.

It’s plumbed for a washing machine and is complete with a sink and a window above, with a view of the back garden.

Also downstairs is an elegant tiled shower room with a shower, sink, and toilet.

Up the carpeted stairs are two bedrooms as well as a small landing and a hot press.

The master bedroom has the major bonus of a built in walk in wardrobe, perfect for storage and space saving.

It has a huge window to allow plenty of natural light and has a carpet floor for a cosy feel.

The second upstairs bedroom also has a huge window, carpet floors, and handy built in drawers and wardrobe space.

To the back of the property is a rear garden with plenty of space for gardening, planting, and decorating.

The other major perk is the shed at the bottom of the garden, which could easily be converted into a home office, a gym, or a games room.

The house is located just a few minutes’ walk to nearby Wexford Town, which has all the necessary amenities.

The area is home to pubs, restaurants, churches, schools, and great shopping.

Series two of A Place in the Sun: What Happened Next? launches next month.

It will be on screens from Monday, March 17, at 6pm on Channel 4.

The show’s experts reconnect will reconnect with past house hunters and see how things panned out.

While some are soaking up a slower pace of life, others have been hard at work with renovations.

In fact, one couple even opted to get married on the grounds of their new home.

All seem to be in agreement – they wouldn’t swap their lives now in the sunshine to go back to living in the UK.

There will be a total of 20 couples, with news of three weddings, two finding love and, unfortunately, one divorce.

Danni Menzies returns to the show in episode one, to revisit Chris and Marie.

In 2019, the couple bought a two-bedroomed seafront holiday home in Manilva, southern Spain.

Following Chris facing a life-changing accident a few years ago, they have been making the most of their property since.

Chris and Marie treat Danni to lunch in their apartment, before heading to nearby Gibraltar for a trip on the cable car and meet the monkeys.

Elsewhere, fellow presenter Ben Hillman reunites with photographer John at his idyllic village house in Skopelos, Greece.

Now proudly calling the property home, John’s life has changed dramatically since he bought it in 2019.

He also has some very exciting news to share with Ben…

The show centres around the notion that everyone in the world develops a superpower at the age of 18[/caption]

ITVX has confirmed that a full series boxset of the edgy comedy show Extraordinary will be available next month on the 6th March.

Extraordinary is a British superhero comedy television series and it currently has a perfect score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The show centres around the notion that everyone in the world develops a superpower at the age of 18, however, Jen aged 25, still hasn’t discovered hers.

Starring Irish actress Máiréad Tyers and Poldark star Sofia Oxenham as a pair of chaotic flatmates the show focuses on what it means to feel different.

With each episode following Jen’s journey, viewers are drawn into her worries about fitting into a super powered world when she herself has none.

Fans flocked to social media to share their delight with the show and one stated: “I love the Misfits vibe of this show. Showing that superpowers are not always wonderful.”

Another agreed and said: “Incredible comedy! Absolutely love this show and its characters.

“Don’t think I’ve fallen in love and laughed at a show this much in a long time. I recommend to anyone and everyone, it’s a much watch.”

“One of the best new shows I’ve seen – binged season 1 and 2 in less than a 3 days. I highly recommend this amazing British sci-fi comedy.” enthused another.

One fan added: “Extraordinary perfectly balances humour and heartfelt moments seamlessly, making it easy to fall in love with every character individually and the group as a whole.”

Extraordinary won Best Comedy Programme at the 2023 Broadcast Digital Awards.

The series was also nominated for Best Scripted Comedy and Máiréad was nominated in the Best Female Comedy Performance at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards in March 2024.

The second series followed Jen on her journey to uncover her powers as she enrols at the power clinic.

However, she quickly realises that discovering her power is far more challenging than she anticipated, and her personal life proves to be just as turbulent.

But the season ended on a cliffhanger with Jen falling into a void, leaving fans without a resolution.

And despite all the love shown from fans and critics alike, the edgy comedy was axed after two series.

Fans were left devastated by the news as they took to a Reddit forum to share their disappointment.

One wrote: “Such bad news. One of the most creative and entertaining series of the past few years. I loved every second of it. Sad to see we won’t get a Season 3.”

Another added: “This hurts. It was sort of a comfort show. The characters being chaotic and messy but sticking together really got me.”

A third said: “I loved this show so much, I randomly came across it and binged it. I don’t think I have ever seen promotion for it.

“Maybe a British broadcaster can take it on at least for one more season… I need to know what that void is!”

Extraordinary season one is available to stream on ITVX and the second season arrives on 6th March.
