Leaked voice note claiming Southport killer Axel Rudakubana was attacked in his cell by inmates is debunked by MOJ

A VOICENOTE claiming that the Southport murderer Axel Rudakubana has been attacked behind bars has been debunked.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed to The Sun that the 18-year-old has not been assaulted while in prison.

A spokesperson for the department, which oversees the prison estate, said: “I can confirm that reports of Axel Rudakubana being attacked in prison are inaccurate.

“He has not been attacked.”

A WhatsApp message, flagged as “forwarded many times”, appears to claim that Rudakubana was set upon by two men serving time for murder.

The message was then widely shared on Elon Musk’s X despite it being incorrect.

The Sun revealed this week that Rudakubana will be “target no 1” for attacks behind bars with lags looking to seek revenge for the horrific Southport attacks.

He stabbed to death Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, at a Taylor Swift dance class in an incident which shocked the nation.

He was sentenced to life behind bars on Thursday with a minimum of 52 years and is currently being held in Belmarsh prison in south east London.

Mr Justice Goose said at Thursday’s sentencing hearing that it was highly unlikely that he would ever be released from prison.

The teenager will be 70 by the time that he can apply to leave jail, and even then it is incredibly unlikely he would be let out.

Mark Fairhurst, national chairman of the Prison Officers’ Association, said Rudakubana would likely be held in isolation in a segregation unit for his own protection as he will be “target No.1” for other inmates.

He is expected to remain at Belmarsh until he is assessed.

He could either stay at the notorious jail or be sent to other Category A prisons across the country including Full Sutton in York or Frankland Prison in Durham.

Mr Fairhurst said Rudakubana would have the same rights as every other inmate and would be offered isolation.

He would be entitled to showers, phone calls home and exercise even in isolation.

His fellow inmates

Southport killer Axel Rudakubana will face a lifetime of hell behind bars.

He said the evil killer is currently being held at high-security Belmarsh Prison in Woolwich, south east London.

His fellow inmates include:

Urfan Sharif

Urfan Sharif was handed a minimum 40-year term last month for murdering innocent Sara in a two-year “campaign of torture” that saw her beaten, burned and bitten.

He was jailed alongside Sara’s stepmum Beinash Batool, 30, and uncle Faisal Malik, 29, who was convicted of allowing the death of a child.

Khairi Saadallah

Khairi Saadallah stabbed three people to death in a Reading park in 2020.

He is serving a whole life order in Belmarsh.

David Copeland

Neo-Nazi David Copeland who bombed a gay pub, Brixton Market and Brick Lane in 1999 killing three people and injuring 140.

Hashem Abedi

Hashem Abedi – brother of Manchester Arena bomber Salman – has spent time at Belmarsh after being handed a minimum 55-year life term for murdering 22 people in the May 2017 attack.

Mr Fairhurst said: “If there was any intelligence he was at risk then he would be put in the segregation unit under isolation or to some other part of the prison where he is away from everyone else.”

He added: “His life will be absolute hell. He is target No.1.

“He’ll be looking over his shoulders for the next 52 years. Any chance they can get him they will.”

Notorious prisoners have been targeted by other lags in the past with inmates using improvised weapons to maim their victims.

Sara Sharif’s killer dad had his throat slashed while in the notorious jail despite being under close supervision by guards.

Two inmates ambushed Urfan Sharif, 43, in his cell and cut his neck with a jagged tuna can lid just weeks after he was sentenced.

The pair were sickened by his abuse of Sara, who was beaten, burned and bitten over two years before her death in August 2023.

Soham murderer Ian Huntley had his throat slashed with an improved knife while at high security Frankland Prison in County Durham in 2008.

Three years earlier he had been scolded with boiling water at Wakefield Prison while on the healthcare wing.

As he has just been sentenced to life imprisonment, Rudakubana will be on “suicide watch” with officers keeping a constant eye on him to ensure he does not hurt himself.

The teenage killer will also likely have three prison officers with him when he leaves his cell at all times to ensure he, and other prisoners, are kept safe.

You’ll hopefully be working your way through the movies and telly, but try these three perks too…

NETFLIX PERK #1 – FREE GAMES

First up is Netflix’s vast library of free games.

By having an active Netflix subscription, you’re entitled to download a load of premium mobile games.

You can bag them on your iPhone or Android and play to your heart’s content.

Netflix says it has over 80 exclusive games on offer, and they’re all part of a standard Netflix subscription.

You can also play them on multiple devices using the same account.

To find them, just go to the Netflix app on your phone and navigate to the Mobile Games row.

When you tap on the game and try to claim it, you’ll be redirected to the Apple App Store on iOS for iPhone or the Google Play Store on Android.

This game will be linked with your Netflix account, giving you access for as long as you have an active Netflix subscription.

NETFLIX PERK #2 – SPATIAL AUDIO

If you’re paying for Netflix’s Premium plan then there’s a special perk that you might not know about.

It’s called Spatial Audio, and it upgrades the sound on certain pieces of content.

“Netflix spatial audio is available on the Premium plan and enhances sound without the need for surround sound speakers or home theater equipment,” Netflix explains.

“It works on all Netflix supported devices,” the company added.

If you don’t have Netflix Premium, you won’t be able to access this perk.

To find Spatial Audio content, just search “spatial audio” in the Netflix app.

NETFLIX PERK #3 – LIVE TELLY

You probably wouldn’t associate Netflix with live telly, but it’s getting there.

For a start, it’s showcased some live television, including some NFL in December – plus November’s Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson boxing spectacle.

Thanks to a deal with WWE, Netflix will be showcasing wrestling livestreams regularly.

You’ll be able to watch WWE Raw weekly on Mondays at 5pm Pacific Time and 8pm Eastern time – which is 1am on Tuesdays in the UK.

I bought an abandoned oil rig lifeboat & turned it into the ultimate tiny home – people are shocked when they see inside

A MAN who bought an abandoned oil rig lifeboat with the goal of turning it into his dream home has showed off the epic finished product.

Despite having no prior construction knowledge, Johnny Sturgeon took on the huge challenge and spent a total of 678 days converting the abandoned 64-tonne lifeboat, called Orla.

Now it’s finally finished, the boat is fully functioning home, with all a lush with a bathroom, kitchen, living room and cosy bedroom, which he showed off on TikTok.

In the viral video, Johnny explained that it wasn’t just the inside that needed some love, but the outside of the boat also needed a lot of attention.

He applied a lick coat of paint, and installed 1,100 watts of solar panels, as well as patching up plenty of holes.

But, it’s the inside of the boat that really leaves people amazed.

What was once a dusty, empty space now looks like a luxurious pad anyone would be happy to live in.

First, he showed off the brand new bathroom, which now has a posh shower and composting toilet, as well as loads of space for storage.

The open plan living and kitchen area is just as impressive.

Complete with a cosy seating area for relaxing, a table for working and eating and more counter space than you might expect for such a small space, it’s easy to see why the DIY whizz was proud to show it off.

“Where the engine once sat is now my kitchen, decorated with tiles I hand-pressed from recyclable materials,” Johnny explained in the clip.

“My sink is positioned by a sliding window which I custom built so I can watch the world go by as I’m washing up,” he continued.

Not only that, but the cosy benches can be used as beds too, he noted.

Meanwhile, his own bedroom is towards the back of the boat and is the perfect snug sanctuary.

And he even managed to keep some of the boats original features for some added charm, like the lifeboat’s original control panel, which he rewired so be used as light switches.

The boat tour quickly went viral on TikTok and it’s currently amassed a whopping 2.5 million viewers, many of whom praised Johnny’s DIY efforts.

One said: “Congratulations on your success! Now go enjoy Orla!”.

And a second commented: “Congratulations, followed your journey from the start. Awesome achievement, enjoy.”

“The transformation is crazy! Spent a lot of time in those boats doing drills and whatnot offshore,” a third chimed in.

“You should be proud of all you have achieve, looks awesome,” someone else added.

Johnny also thanked the social media users who watched the journey and said: “It’s been two years of blood, sweat and many tears.”

“Yes, Orla is a million miles from the shell I bought. But so too am I! I wasn’t a particularly well young man when I started the boat and watching the smile on my face at seeing her complete is the achievement I am most proud of,” he added.

The rise of tiny homes

By Jonathan Rolande

Property expert Jonathan Rolande told Fabulous: The reason we are seeing more creative ways of finding a home: super-high property prices and rents. Younger people are remaining in the family home later in life to avoid paying high prices and to save for a deposit. With increasingly busy lives, staying within a larger family group makes sense, chores such as gardening and housework can be shared.

Garages are rarely used for their intended purpose as cars are far more reliable and less prone to rust and so are perfectly happy outside. On the other hand, the amount of property space per person has been shrinking – converting a garage can make great sense.

Things to consider. (the boring stuff)

Usually easier than building from scratch but still a lot to do to turn a garage in to a habitable space.

You’ll need to check if you need planning (more likely to be required if the garage is detached).

Building Regulations stipulate many things to make homes safe and secure. Consider

Walls, are they cavity?

Roof height

Windows

How will you get plumbing, electrics and drainage connected

Insulation – it will be cold!

Fire safety

Damp proofing

Also consider if, by converting, you are adding or deducting value from the main home. Garages can add value in busy urban areas where parking is limited.
