40 Day Health Challenge recruit reveals he’s ‘feeling more confident’ as big weight loss revealed

A 40 Day Health Challenger has told how he is “feeling more confident” since starting the plan last month.

The makers of TV show Operation Transformation have teamed up with The Irish Sun and Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio for a new health series to kick off 2025.

Personal trainer Karl Henry revealed his stats for this week

For 40 days, those taking part will aim to eat well, move more and focus positively on mental health – and there’s new digital episodes dropping each week.

And John Drislane, from Cork, said he is already noticing big changes in his physical and mental health.

The 32-year-old said: “I’m feeling more confident, my asthma has improved, my skin has improved.

“So really for me, I was struggling. A year and a half ago I was on a lot of steroids and everything.

“And obviously before starting the challenge I was on the steriods and I had a bad first week but it’s been amazing.

“I’m getting back and my asthma is improving. I don’t need to take my blue inhaler, my Ventolin, as much.

“The running has really helped me and the exercises. Look, I struggle sometimes with press-ups and stuff but we are getting there.

“My overall health and my mental health have really improved.”

GP Dr Sumi Dunne praised John for his progress in the challenge.

She said: “You’re now saying you’re using your rescue inhaler, which is your blue inhaler, less because things are improving for you overall healthwise.

“You still have it, it’s there as a rescue but you are not using it as much.

“And nobody did that, you did that.”

Personal trainer Karl Henry showed how the stats backed up how he was feeling.

He said: “You were 101.4kg on day one and when we weighed you this morning you were 98.6kg.

“12 pounds down in 26 days.”

John, who works for a vending machine company and DJs occasionally, previously said that getting back into a size medium is his “ultimate goal”.

He added: “Obviously the weight is my main thing and that’s going to be the challenge for me to get back down to where I was.

“I’ll have to fit back into my medium clothes again, and that would be my ultimate goal.

“But my mental side of it will be the challenge. It’s just to get my head right, get my head straight and do the proper stuff that I need to do.”

John said the 40 Day Health Challenge is the “best opportunity” he’s ever been given.

He said: “I think the professional help from Karl Henry and the others is something I need for the future.

“I think it’ll just help me because once I get back, I know I’ll be able to stick at it.

“I think this is the best opportunity I’ve ever had.

“Just to actually meet professionals like them and hopefully get the tips to carry on for the rest of my life.”

HOW TO WATCH THE CHALLENGE

THE latest episodes of the 40 Day Health Challenge are now available at the 40dayhealthchallenge.ie.

Readers can also follow all the action and get the latest updates, meal plans, exercises and mental health tips from Thesun.ie and Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio during the 40 days.

Meanwhile, a competitive couple taking part in the 40 Day Health Challenge have told how they are “getting younger together”.

Husband Jim O’Sullivan and wife Deirdre have won the hearts of the nation as they take on the challenge side by side.

The mum-of-four, who is currently battling stage 4 breast cancer, told how she expected the challenge would need to be adapted for her.

Deirdre said: “I thought there was going to be a plan adapted for somebody like me who was living with chronic illness.

“For me the 40 Day Health Challenge has meant that I feel back in society. I don’t feel invisible anymore.

“I feel like I can be part of everything that’s going on, to suit my level of ability.”

The former hairdresser wants to inspire other people with chronic illnesses, to not be afraid to live and to not shy away from challenges.

Retired school principal Jim got more than he bargained for when he offered to drive Deirdre up to the 40 Day Health Challenge HQ.

Deirdre said: “To have your best friend by your side doing that is incredible.

“It makes the 40 Day Health Challenge a way of life as opposed to any kind of an extra stress on us.

She joked: “I do actually love seeing him in pain.”

In the latest episode on day 26, the Cork based couple celebrated a new win.

Deirdre, aged 54, reduced her metabolic age from 45 to 39 after following the plan.

The experts told husband Jim, aged 56, his metabolic age was down from 55 to 42.

Personal trainer Karl Henry praised the challengers on their progress.

Karl said: “Couples around the country are going to be motivated now.

“A 39-year-old and a 42-year-old in the house. From the couple to a crowd and back to a couple again. We’re getting younger.”

Jim told how stress “can eat” away at him, but the challenge has allowed him to “let that stress out”.

The experts revealed that Jim, who was 90.2 kilos on day one, is now 85.4 kilos.

Jim joked: “My problem is that when I put on weight, it goes straight to my belly and backside.

“So I’m like a pregnant duck at that stage. It’s a case of here’s my head and there’s my bottom.”

A dark-hooded figure had poured petrol through the letter box of No.8 before starting the inferno.

The inferno fire came after David Platt stole money from the notorious gangster Harvey Gaskell.

Harvey’s thugs were out for David after taking money which belonged to him – putting his whole family in danger.

While Lilly and Max eventually made it out, Max’s life was left hanging in the balance.

But in Wednesday’s third and final visit to the cobbles, the youngster – who was in an induced coma – opened his eyes.

However, his dad David wasn’t able to be at his bedside as he was detained at the police station.

His brother Nick Tilsley turned him in to the authorities, believing he was behind the blaze.

David was arrested by Kit and questioned as he pleaded for an update on Max’s health condition.

Meanwhile, Abi was released after Kevin provided evidence showing she was at the garage.

The episode ended as Leanne Battersby was the next resident to be hauled in by Kit, after previously asking Steve McDonald for an alibi.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 and ITVX.

Corrie cash crisis: shock exits for 2025

ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.

This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.

    Colson Smith – Craig Tinker

The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig’s on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.

    Sue Cleaver – Eileen Grimshaw

After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I’m A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she’s already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.

    Luca Toolan – Mason Radcliffe

Bosses decided to axe the teenage character after just 16 months after he first joined the show. Recent scenes saw Mason stabbed by his criminal brothers after his pal Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.

    Sue Devaney – Debbie Webster

In November 2024, we revealed that Debbie Webster is set to be killed off after 40 years on the cobbles. The character will die as part of a heartbreaking long-running dementia storyline.

    Charlotte Jordan – Daisy Midgeley

The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she’s hungry to see what other opportunities await.

    Shelley King – Yasmeen Metcalfe

The actress has played Yasmeen Metcalfe on the cobbles for the past 11 years and we revealed in January that she finished filming her final scenes. This follows the departure of her on-screen partner Stu Carpenter.

Meghan Markle’s Billie Eilish video feels off – the moment she acts like a Love Islander made me realise it’s contrived

MEGHAN Markle has channelled a famous Love Islander for her latest Instagram video, according to a body language expert.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared a clip with her 1.6million followers explaining how she lent on Hollywood pals to gather T-shirts from Billie Eilish for a young fan whose home was lost in the LA wildfires.

Meghan filmed a short video inside what appeared to be her home sharing the story[/caption]

“Bare-faced” Meghan tries to come across as “authentic”, according to Judi James, but there were “influencer” style elements which gave it a “contrived feel”.

The video showed Meghan in her £12million home sharing how A-list pals Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine managed to get merchandise from singer Billie for the young fan.

While it was undeniably a kind gesture, Judi said: “This body language and performance is in a social media influencer style known as ‘contrived naturalness’.

“It’s Meghan channelling her inner Mollie-Mae Hague. She’s dropped the ring lights, filters and perfect grooming to appear bare-faced in front of the camera. This aims to signal brand honesty.

“She enforces this by forgoing professional camera-work. The video is all about the immersive amateur look with odd angles, unframed shots and the act of picking the camera up and carrying it into scenes while also talking in a chatty, unrehearsed-sounding way.

“It is a technique that creates feelings of intimacy and friendship-style collusion.”

While the video appeared to be filmed “off the cuff”, Meghan gestured to the carefully arranged piles of Billie Eilish stash on the table.

The body language expert said that we seem to be getting the “real” Meghan in the video, who is chatting to us “like a bestie.”

Judi added: “Meghan breaks all her usual communication ‘rules’ here, looking away as she is talking but then throwing her eyes to the camera in several powerful asides that suggest she’s sharing secrets.”

Meghan explained how she got in touch with a mother and her 15-year-old daughter who were affected by the raging LA wildfires.

The Duchess of Sussex sadly revealed that the teen was badly missing a prized Billie Eilish T-shirt after it was reduced to ash in the tragedy.

The 43-year-old said: “And so I said, well, I don’t know, Billie Eilish. I’m going to figure out how to get you this shirt.

“So I thought of everybody that I knew, and I made a voice note and I was like, please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish.”

She then pans over to the pile of merch that Eilish sent over, exclaiming, “You guys, I don’t even know what all this stuff means, but it’s signed for her!”

Meghan happily revealed she had managed to secure much more than a T-shirt for the youngster.

The mum-of-two, who was visibly excited, showed off the signed goods including different clothing items.

She also held up what she described as a “lunch-box” thing and jokingly quipped she “felt really old” for not knowing what it was.

In the heartwarming social media clip, Meghan said she had met the family while in Atladena with Prince Harry.

The pair were visiting a community where “all the homes were left in ashes” when they stumbled upon the mother and daughter.

Meghan then signed off the video clip by thanking a number of stars who helped make the teenager’s dream come true.

The Duchess gave a shout out to everyone who “showed up in big and small ways” and helped victims of the California wildfires.

“Honestly to Adam Levine and Behati, you guys helped get this over the line.

“Just thank you so much. I’m gonna go and email her mum now. Just wanted to share that with you guys.”

The Los Angeles wildfires that occurred in January 2025 are predicted to have cost in excess of $135bn (£109.7bn).

It comes after Meghan was spotted helping at an LA wildfire relief hub as she hauled in bags of donations last month.

The Duchess, featured in a short video, shared by support charity Altadena Girls, showing the work they’re doing for LA fire victims.

The mum-of-two came laden with bags of supplies, while dressed down in a casual black fit and LA cap.

It comes as Meghan also decided to delay the release of her new Netflix docuseries amid the fires.

With Love, Meghan, was due to air eight 33-minute episodes in January but this has been rescheduled to March 4.

What do we know about Meghan Markle's new cooking show, With Love, Meghan?

MEGHAN Markle's new Netflix documentary trailer shows her cooking with Hollywood pals.

The Duchess of Sussex gave fans an insight into her show, With Love, Meghan, which airs on January 15.

There will be eight 33 minute episodes featuring a host of Meg’s various Hollywood friends trying her simple, yet “elevated”, food.

A montage of various clips in the nearly two minute video showed Meghan walking through vegetable patches and fields.

She was also filmed browsing through florists hand selecting beautiful flowers for table arrangements, showing off her creative side.

The Duchess even tried her hand at beekeeping, fully suited up, as she collected honey.

In the exciting new trailer, Meghan shared: “I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it.

“Surprising people with moments that let them know I was really thinking of them.

“I’m going to share some little tips and tricks. I see what colour I gravitate to, and everything goes from there. And how you incorporate these practices every day.

“This is about connecting with friends.. I love that we’re doing this together for the first time. Making new friends.. and just learning.

“We’re not in the pursuit of perfection. We’re in the pursuit of joy. I have to get it totally wrong, to get it totally right.”

The trailer showcased many “candid” moments, from Meghan accidentally squeezing some lemon juice in her eye, to knocking freshly baked goodies off a plate.

Prince Harry featured at the end of the video, embracing his wife in a warm hug.
