NFL Croke Park game deal edges closer with negotiations at advanced stage as announcement before Super Bowl possible
A DEAL to finally bring an NFL game to Croke Park could be announced as soon as this weekend with a match being planned for later this year.
The NFL and the GAA have been in talks to bring American football to Croker with negotiations now at an advanced stage.
Last May, the Irish Sun revealed that GAA President Jarlath Burns had travelled to Pittsburgh to meet with officials about bringing the Steelers to Croke Park for a match.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are owned by the Rooney family with former club President Dan Rooney previously serving as US Ambassador to Ireland under Barack Obama.
Dan Rooney has long campaigned for an annual NFL game in Ireland at Croke Park.
The Irish Sun understands that Sport Minister Patrick O’Donovan today updated the Cabinet on negotiations to bring American football to Croke Park.
Government sources said that a business case has been discussed between the Department of Sport and the NFL however, no deal has been signed yet.
It’s understood the GAA would like to hold the first American football game in September or October of this year with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers the likely line up.
This would be a full professional NFL league match similar to the games held in London every year.
The NFL are keen to expand the game here with hope that the Croke Park game would become an annual fixture in the football calendar.
While a deal is yet to be signed off, the Irish Sun understands that those involved in the discussions are hopeful of making an announcement this weekend ahead of the Super Bowl.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will fight it out in the Super Bowl on Sunday in what is one of the most watched sporting events in the world.
Ireland has never hosted an NFL game but the Aviva Stadium hosts college football once a year which is a regular sell-out and sees thousands of fans travel to the city.
The Steelers’ owners want to bring the NFL to Dublin with the Pittsburgh team previously playing a pre-season friendly in Croke Park in 1997.
From decapitation strike to shock & awe… 5 ways Trump could blast Iran & one simulation says US could LOSE war
THESE are the five ways Donald Trump could wipe out Iran after the US President issued strict orders to “obliterate” the country if they ever assassinate him.
This comes after an apparent Iranian plot to kill the commander-in-chief, who has already survived two attempts on his life, was uncovered in November.
Donald Trump has ordered the US to ‘obliterate’ Iran if he is ever assassinated[/caption] Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah[/caption]Two hitmen were arrested as part of an alleged for-hire plot to take out Trump before the November 5 election.
Trump has since revealed he has left a detailed plan with his team on what to do if he is ever assassinated by his enemy.
He said: “I’ve left instructions if they do it, they get obliterated, there won’t be anything left.”
The US President also signed an executive order calling for his government to impose serious pressure on Tehran.
America could have several chilling plans up its sleeve to hit back at any attacks made by Iran.
DECAPITATION STRIKES
Trump could bring back an attack he used back in his first term.
The US President used a “decapitation strike” to take out Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
These strikes are military actions that use a missile or bomb to deliberately target and kill leaders.
Therefore, the US could use its weapons strategically to target Iran’s leaders rather than dropping bombs on cities or homes.
TARGET NUCLEAR SITES
Specific leaders might not be the only target of potential US missiles.
Trump could also turn to his Israeli pals as the two nations previously prepared a joint mission to blitz Iran’s nuclear bases.
In December, Netanyahu’s government confirmed it would capitalize on a rare opportunity to strike Iran after the Islamic nation’s allies have been dropping like flies.
The US did not confirm whether it would join Israel’s anti-nuclear mission, but Trump is said to be “weighing options” to buckle Iran’s nuclear project – and airstrikes are on the table.
Israel has previously launched an attack on Iran which reportedly hit a missile production site – but avoided its nuclear facilities.
Iran has always denied it is trying to develop nuclear weapons and claimed its space program and nuclear activities are for civilian purposes.

The US could also unleash a huge attack on Iran which could potentially wipe out the enemy overnight.
US officials are believed to already have a top secret computerised plan ready for any major conflict in the Middle East.
The government reportedly first penned the Theatre Iran Near Term (TIRANNT) scheme in 2003 during the Iraq War, according to the Daily Star.
A report published by academics in 2007 theorised how the attack could look and believed the US would hit with a “massive multi-front” which would exclude a ground invasion.
The potential attack could weaponize bombers, missiles, and fighter jets to hit 52 targets – including cultural locations, military bases, and infrastructure.
Researchers believed the TIRANNT project could take “shock and awe to a new level”.
PROXY ATTACKS
Trump could also go for Iran’s allies and launch proxy attacks across the Middle East.
Iran-backed groups currently operate in six Middle Eastern nations.
These include Hezbollah in Lebanon; Hamas in Palestine; the Houthis in Yemen; Assad-affiliate groups in Syria; the Al-Ashtar Brigades in Iraq; and several groups in its neighbour Iraq, according to the US Congress.
Iranian forces in these countries therefore could be hit, former Middle East peace negotiator Aaron David Miller told The Telegraph.
“The US has conceded too large a margin to Iran for proxy attacks.
“Washington needs to reduce that margin and send a tougher message to Tehran for killing Americans – attacks against Iranian forces in Iraq and Syria.
LOSING HAND
Despite the America’s powers, a US military simulation predicted it could lose in a war against Iran.
An exercise called the Millennium Challenge was set up by the Pentagon in 2002 to see how it’s military would compare to a Middle Eastern power – believed to be Iran – in a war.
Washington claimed it won a series of live exercises and computer war games in the $250million run.
It was later leaked that the opposition took victory until Pentagon bosses changed the rules, according to the Daily Star.

THIS is the moment a brazen burglar, who can’t be deported, filmed himself driving a luxury motor.
Albanian Dorian Puka, 28, has been jailed and deported twice but returned to the UK in December 2020.

The convicted burglar then parked the £300,000 car on double yellow lines and posed for a picture in front of it.
Puka has claimed asylum meaning the Home Office is currently unable to deport him.
His case needs to be fully considered, which could take years due to the backlog of immigration tribunal appeals.
Puka was originally jailed for nine months and deported in 2017.
He returned to Britain within the year and carried out a spree of break-ins.
The bearded criminal was then jailed for three-and-a-half years and deported in March 2020.
Last month he shared Happy New Year messages from a London nightclub.
Footage showed him smoking a shisha pipe alongside a belly dancer.
Puka also mocked Reform UK leader Nigel Farage last year.
He shared a photo of himself having dinner with a photoshopped image of the Clacton MP giving the thumbs up.
Farage described Puka as a “proper wrong’un” who was “walking all over” British authorities.

EX-TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar could be asked to give evidence in court in a case that aims to block super junior ministers from attending Cabinet meetings.
The coalition’s four super junior ministers could be booted out of Cabinet if the new case from People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy is successful.
Fianna Fail’s Mary Butler, Fine Gael’s Hildegarde Naughton and Independent TDs Sean Canney and Noel Grealish were all appointed super junior ministers in this Government – more than ever before.
These super juniors sit at Cabinet meetings with senior ministers but do not have a vote.
The Constitution rules that a maximum of 15 Ministers can be part of the Cabinet.
In a column in the Sunday Times last month, former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said that the super junior positions were a way for Governments to get around the rule in the Constitution.
Last week, Sinn Fein TD Pa Daly launched a High Court judicial review case which claimed that the four super junior ministerial positions are unconstitutional.
Now, People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy has launched a second legal case against the practice of junior ministers attending Cabinet.
The Dublin TD’s injunction case would block these ministers from attending the Cabinet and could be through the courts in a matter of months.
Deputy Murphy has taken a plenary action in the courts to seek the injunction which means that witnesses could be called to give evidence in the case.
He told the Irish Sun: “In a plenary action there will be oral evidence and crucially for us there will be the capacity to call witness and we can think of a number of people without getting into it who we would like to call as witnesses to explain where this super juniors came from and the rationale for it and to outline how from our perspective it is a stroke that is against the constitution.”
Pressed on whether he wants to call former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to give evidence in the case on the back of his Sunday Times article, Deputy Murphy said: “Purely as a lay person yes what you are saying sounds like a good idea but I do need to talk to the lawyers about whether that legally makes sense.”
Deputy Murphy said that Varadkar’s article had “copper fastened” his decision to try to take the Government to court over the issue.
The People Before Profit TD claims the creation of the super junior positions is “stroke politics” created to “spread around the spoils of office”.
He said: “This speaks volumes about the approach of the government which is that ‘rules are not for us, they are for you and we will simply try to get around those rules’.
“We want to oppose the stroke politics of this government in every possible arena that we can and that’s why I initiated a plenary action in the High Court seeking an injunction preventing the super juniors from attending cabinet meetings and seeking an end to the extra allowances that they get paid.”
The use of super junior ministers has been part of the past several governments with Deputy Murphy saying he regrets not taking the legal case sooner as he confessed: “It’s better late than never”.
