TikTok/ The Wee Scotty CleanersLaundry experts have revealed that salt is the secret to keeping dark colours looking new[/caption]
The duo also own a launderette, so definitely know a thing or two about washing tricks.
In a recent post, the cleaning experts revealed that just a sprinkling of salt in the drum can help maintain your clothing’s colour while it spins round the washing machine.
They explained: “If you have black jeans or a [darks] wash and you want to keep it looking great and stop your blacks from fading, especially your jeans, get your jeans turned inside out and put a tablespoon full of salt in with you’re washing.
“It stops your blacks fading and it stops you getting all those lines up and down your jeans because the salt locks in the fabric dye that is already there.
“A wee spoonful of table salt in your washing and I can guarantee you, your blacks won’t fade.”
You can pick up a 750g tub of table salt from Aldi for as little as 65p, making this an extremely affordable hack.
Even better? There are 50 tablespoons in every tub meaning it only costs 1p per wash.
Hazel and Claire’s clip as already racked up more than 100,000 views, with social media users loving the hack.
One gushed: “I’ll definitely be trying this with my son’s black jeans. Thanks for the tip.”
A second revealed: “I’ve always put it in my black jeans pocket.”
“Brilliant. Thank you. Husband’s work trousers are black cargos”, wrote a third
Meanwhile, a fourth added: “I always use salt with black clothes.”
Hazel and Claire run their own launderette and shop in Moffat, Dumfriesshire, called The Laundry Room.
The duo are also a viral sensation on TikTok (@theweescottycleaners) thanks to their cleaning hacks – with their videos earning them millions of views.

A YOUNG woman was left with horrific burns after using her Primark water bottle.
Jess Wilson suffered from burns so badly that she couldn’t walk after failing to check a key detail.

Kennedy NewsShe was left with sever burns along the bottom half of her body[/caption]
The 17-year-old student had just filled her hot water bottle up ready for a 45-minute drive to a football match she was playing in that morning.
However, after placing the bottle on her belly beneath her seatbelt, the device suddenly ruptured – expelling boiling hot water all over Jess’ stomach, thighs and intimate area.
Jess, who lives in Middlesbrough, began screaming in agony as her mum Kelly Hall – a 45-year-old nurse – rushed her daughter into a cold shower and wrapped the burns.
The horrifying photos show more than a dozen large, painful blisters covering Jess’ red raw lower body.
After she was rushed to hospital, doctors popped Jess’ newly-formed blisters and dressed her wounds – but the student has been left unable to walk since being admitted on January 25 when the incident took place.
The family have since discovered the Primark hot water bottle was manufactured in 2019—while experts advise changing your device every two years.
It means the product was four years ‘out of date’, which Jess has since learned she could have checked for using a symbol usually on the top of the bottle.
The brand’s guidelines also note that boiling water should never be used; the water should be allowed to cool first to avoid scalding.
Jess has no idea what scars she will be left with – and is urging others to bin their own hot water bottles to prevent further accidents.
Jess said: “I woke up freezing cold. I was getting ready [for football] and just had my little shorts on.

Kennedy NewsJess said there was one detail she should have known before picking the hot water bottle up[/caption]
Luckily, on this day I decided to wear my joggers and I’d never worn them before.
“I grabbed the first hot water bottle I found, boiled the kettle, put the boiling water in, closed the bottle and took it out to the car.
“I use them quite often. At school, I used to put them in my school trousers when it was really cold.
“I sat down and put it on my belly, with the bottom facing down. I put my seatbelt over the top of it and then it just popped everywhere, all over my thighs and intimate area.
“The bottom of the bottle had just split completely.
“I just remember screaming and screaming. I had a water bottle in the car and just emptied it over myself. I was shaking.
“Luckily, my mam’s a nurse and she heard me screaming. She stripped me down, put me in a cold shower, wrapped the burns in cling film and a wet towel.”
Jess’s dad rushed her to The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where doctors treated the extensive wounds across her stomach, thighs and intimate area.
Jess, who has been in hospital since Saturday, hasn’t been able to walk since being admitted and has ‘no idea’ what permanent scarring she will be left with.
Jess said: “I’ve not been able to move at all. I just haven’t had the energy to lift my legs up.
“We won’t know if it’s going to permanently scar yet, it’s too early to tell.
“It’s the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’ve had loads of injuries through football and never felt anything like this.”
Jess has since learned that hot water bottles have an expiry date at the top of every device, with the large number in the centre of the symbol indicating the date of manufacture.
It is recommended that hot water bottles should only be kept for two years, while the item Jess was using went ‘out of date’ in 2021.

The dos and don'ts of hot water bottles
ASSUMING your hot water bottle is in date, Consumer expert Alice Beer has tips on how to minimise the risk of burns…
Filling the bottle
Do:
Fill with a mixture of cold and hot water
Squeeze as much air as you can out of the bottle before closing it – If there’s air left in the bottle, the water can heat the air, meaning it expands, which may burst the bottle.
Screw in the stopper until hand-tight
Check the bottle for leaks
Don’t:
Don’t use it if it’s cracked, worn, or leaking
Never fill with boiling water
Don’t heat by using the microwave or oven
Don’t fill more than two-thirds full unless the bottle is designed to be fully filled
Using the bottle
Don’t place in direct contact with your skin – Always have a cover, towel or clothing.
Avoid putting pressure or weight on the bottle
Don’t sleep with the bottle in bed overnight
Mum Kelly said: “I’ll never forget that scream she made. Ninety nine per cent of people we’ve spoken to didn’t even know the symbol on a hot water bottle meant an expiry date.”
Jess added: “For an hour of warmth, it’s not worth it. The amount of people I’ve spoken to who had no idea about the expiry date, we just want to raise awareness.
“I’ll never use a hot water bottle again. I’d tell people to get rid of them – it’s just not worth it.”
A Primark spokesperson said: “We were really sorry to learn of this customer’s experience.
“We take the safety and the quality of our products very seriously and all our hot water bottles have been tested to, and pass the UK and European standards for safety, quality and labelling.
“All our hot water bottles come with user instructions on both the product label and the hot water bottle itself, which includes a warning not to use boiling water and to replace the hot water bottle every two years.
“As a responsible retailer we want to do all we can to help consumers use their hot water bottle safely, which is why we have information at point of sale in our stores and a safety guide on hot water bottle usage on our website informing customers on how to check the manufacturing date of the hot water bottle.”
5 ways to keep your house warm in winter
Property expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.
1. Curtains
“Windows are a common place for the outside cold to get into your home, this is because of small gaps that can let in air so always close your curtains as soon as it gets dark,” he said.
This simple method gives you an extra layer of warmth as it can provide a kind of “insulation” between your window and curtain.
2. Rugs
“Your floor is another area of your home where heat can be lost and can make your home feel chilly,” he continued. “You might notice on cold days, that your floor is not nice to walk on due to it freezing your feet.
“Add rugs to areas that don’t already have a carpet, this provides a layer of insulation between your bare floor and the room above.”
3. Check your insulation
Check your pipes, loft space, crawlspaces and underneath floorboards.
“Loose-fill insulation is very good for this, and is a more affordable type of insulation, with a big bag being able to be picked up for around £30,” Joshua explained.
4. Keep your internal doors closed
“Household members often gather in one room in the evening, and this is usually either the kitchen or living room,” Joshua said.
“This means you only have to heat a small area of your home, and closing the doors keeps the heat in and the cold out.”
5. Block drafts
Don’t forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and letterboxes, as they can let in cold air if they aren’t secure.

THERE’S been a fresh blow for the Strictly tour, as fans slammed the show over ‘missing’ stars and ‘expensive’ seats, after Wynne Evans was axed.
The Mega AgencyThere’s been a fresh blow for the Strictly tour, as fans slammed the show over ‘missing’ stars and ‘expensive’ seats, after Wynne Evans was axed[/caption]
PAWynne joked about having a threesome with Janette[/caption]
Wynne previously apologised after he was heard using the term “spit roast” to co-star Jamie Borthwick while standing beside Janette.
But Wynne’s apology hasn’t saved his place on the tour and bosses have now removed him, despite initially giving him a final warning. And now disappointed fans have spoken out online, following Wynne’s axing.
One person wrote: “I’m just a bit disappointed by how absences have been handled. The tour is pretty expensive for good seats but for one the actual winner of the show wasn’t there.
“That’s fair enough Chris said from the get go he had his own tour and wouldn’t be attending but in doing so it made Dianne a bit of a spare part.
“She was in most of the routines and she was amazing but she deserved to be more celebrated as the winner on the tour and she wasn’t. She was like a backing dancer to people she had actually won against.
“Another thing was that Vito (a fan favourite and finalist) also wasn’t on the tour. I saw that he had injured himself but have since seen him in Glasgow doing the dance classes with Shirley!
“There’s been little to no update on his whereabouts and it seems like he’s preoccupied with his calendars and private dance events.”
Someone else wrote: “I’m supposed to be seeing the tour next weekend and honestly im not even sure what to expect at this point.
“The tickets were extortionately priced so we’ve had to keep scouring and sit higher tier just to afford it, which we were willing to do as have enjoyed the past tours but honestly im not sure if we can justify it again going forward. The merch prices are also ridiculous and the items themselves not even very good from what I’ve seen.”
A third echoed: “They need to have backups.
“If a celeb drops out, they need to put someone else in their place.
“I’ve been to every tour except the first one. In the past they had a mix of celebs from current and past seasons. They could have a few previous contestants on standby in case people drop out.
“I personally think it’s outrageous that you might go to a show and see less contestants in the show because they can’t be bothered to organise having stand ins and still pay them, pre make VT’s etc. If they increase the price, they need to maintain the quality of everything otherwise it’s just money grabbing.”
Wynne came under fire for allegedly telling a “crude” joke to one of the show’s make-up artists.
Insiders claim the opera star made a joke that the folds of his double chin “looked like a vagina”.
A source said: “It was a bit of a vulgar dad joke.”
Vile comment
Wynne was recorded suggesting a three-way sex session with presenter Janette Manrara, using the term “spit roast”.
His remark came at a photocall to launch the Strictly live tour, which pro Janette, 41, is hosting.
He reportedly pulled a suggestive face at actor Jamie Borthwick as Janette moved between them — which is when Evans allegedly made the joke.
Wynne has apologised saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
Another wrote: “I always find it a bit bizarre that the winner doesn’t have to go on the tour ngl. Surely there should be a clause in the contract that says “if you win the show, you are required to do the tour”.
It comes as Wynne Evans broke his silence following his axe, and issued a statement online.
Wynne said on Tuesday evening: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that l’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.
“Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
