WAYNE ROONEY was left embarrased for Marcus Rashford after seeing him train solo at Manchester United’s training ground.

The United legend spotted the wantaway striker working with one of the club’s fitness coaches during a recent visit to Carrington to watch his son, Kai, in action.

The England international was working out in close promixmity to the pitches used by the junior Red Devils, which left Rooney with second-hand embarrassement.

During a recent episde of the Stick to Football podcast, he recalled: “I went into Carrington on Sunday to take my kids to game day and Marcus Rashford was out on the training pitch with the fitness coach.

“But he was right over towards where the parents were walking past for the kids’ games.

“I looked at him thinking how embarrassing it must be for him as parents walked past. He’s there and all the parents are walking past him.

“I was surprised when this started over two years ago, but now I’m not.”

Rashford stunned the Old Trafford faithful last December by revealing he wants to leave the club for a “new challenge” in an unauthorised interview.

His bombshell came after he was exiled from the first team by manager Ruben Amorim, who has been critical of his efforts in tratining.

And Rooney believes it’d be best for both parties if Rashford’s wish for a “new challenge” is granted.

He said: “I’ve spoken to Marcus a couple of times and I’ve given him my thoughts and feelings that he needs to leave the football club.

“Because whatever is going on in his life and at Manchester United, he’s not the same.

“For him to have a fresh start, he needs to leave the club.”

Rashford’s apparent lack of effort in training has stunned Rooney, who added: “The fact your manager is coming out saying you’re not training right is crazy.”

“It’s well known I asked Sir Alex Ferguson to leave the club but I still came in every day and trained.

“With Marcus, it’s been going on for two years, it’s really sad. You have your personal pride.

“Take the manager out of it, I’m coming in thinking, ‘I’ve got Roy Keane there, Ryan Giggs [and] Gary Neville.

“‘I want to show them that I deserve to be here.'”

United will be back in action this evening, travelling to Romania to take on Steaua Bucharest in their final Europa League group match.

PRINCESS Kate arrived in Wales today for her first engagement in the country since revealing her cancer diagnosis.

The 43-year-old was appointed as its new patron, a position previously held by Princess Diana in its fundraising stage.

The first patronage Kate ever took on was East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH) and she maintains a close relationship with the organisation to this day.

Sources said the Princess is looking forward to building a similar relationship with Tŷ Hafan and the children and families it serves in Wales.

Kate played with eight kids during her drop in and spoke to four parents who lost children, as well as painting a hand print on the wall.

Kensington Palace arranged for a donation of musical instruments to be provided to the charity to allow them to conduct more music therapy sessions.

The Prince and Princess of Wales last went to Wales in October 2023 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush to the UK and mark the start of Black History Month.

The visit is part of Kate’s “gradual return to work” after her last minute decision to join Prince William at a Holocaust Memorial Day event.

It is not a sign she is “fully back to work”, but this type of pace is going to continue, insiders added.

Tŷ Hafan translates from Welsh to ‘Haven House’ in English.

It provides free care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families, both within the hospice and in homes and communities in Wales.

Irfon Rees, Chief Executive of Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan and it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today.

“As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us.

“No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales.

“We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone.”

It comes after Kate hugged Holocaust survivors at a reception telling them it was a “treat” to see them again.

She had an emotional reunion with Yvonne Bernstein and Stephen Frank – two Holocaust survivors she photographed in 2020, ahead of a UK National Ceremony to mark 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

As she sat catching up with Yvonne, the two women held hands, with Yvonne stroking the Princess’s arm and thanking her for coming at the reception held at London’s Guildhall.

Kate, in a black coat over black wide-leg trousers and a black sweater with a five-string pearl necklace, said: “It was such a treat for me to come and see an old friend.”

She had greeted the 87-year-old Yvonne saying: “It’s so nice to see you”.

And after hearing that Yvonne had suffered some health problems, she added: “You’ve had such a hard time, haven’t you?”

Kate also shared a warm hug with Stephen, 89, who thanked her for sending him a Christmas card and the two chatted about his family.

William sat with Polish born Alfred Garwood, who survived Bergen-Belsen as a child and Bosnian genocide survivor Sabina Kadic-Mackenzie, who now lives in Liverpool.

Both the Prince and Princess discussed their desire to teach their children about the Holocaust, with William saying: “George is getting to the age where he’s starting to understand things.

“So it’s getting interesting to talk to him about what happened.”

Nothing derails a shopping trip quite like a standoff with a locked display case. In this scenario, are you more likely to ask a store associate for help or buy the product from another retailer like Amazon? According to a 2024 Consumer World survey, 13 percent of shoppers would flag down an employee, while 55 percent said they’d buy the locked-up product elsewhere. To bridge this gap, CVS is (slowly!) rolling out a new feature that would grant shoppers access to caged merchandise. But there’s one caveat: You’ll have to download the CVS Health app.

CVS has no plans to stop locking up its products; however, a handy new feature in the CVS Health app could make it easier for shoppers to get hygiene products and over-the-counter medicine without the help of a call button or store employee.

“People really, really dislike locked cabinets,” Tilak Mandadi, executive vice president of ventures at CVS Health, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

The new feature would allow customers to unlock display cases from the comfort of their phones. So, how does it work?

Firstly, you must be a loyalty program member. Customers “need to be logged in [to the CVS Health app], on the local store Wi-Fi and with their device’s Bluetooth enabled to activate the feature,” according to The WSJ report.

As of this writing, a pilot version of the feature is being tested at three stores. From there, Mandadi said the company plans to expand to 10 to 15 stores. If beta testing goes well, the feature will become available at all locations.

Some say the new feature is merely a means to get more app downloads.

However, analysts claim that the long-awaited feature may be merely a strategic incentive to get the CVS Health app on more phones. “You’re talking about behavior change. If most people shop in-store, they have a certain way of doing it,” analyst Don Scheibenreif, the vice president of consulting company Gartner, told The WSJ.

With the app, he argued, “They have to have compelling reasons for you to open it and use it in the store.” And that’s where this polished new feature comes in.

The CVS Health app currently registers 14.1 million monthly active users — about a 22 percent increase from 2024, per Mandadi.

Meanwhile, Walgreens is doubling down on its locked cases.

While CVS is looking towards the future, Walgreens isn’t backing down from its locked display cases, despite declining sales. In a January 2025 earnings call, Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said shoplifting is still a “hand-to-hand combat battle.” In terms of a solution, Wentworth said the company doesn’t “have anything magnificent to share” at the moment.

“When you lock things up, for example, you don’t sell as many of them. We’ve kind of proven that pretty conclusively,” he said, per CNN.

Either way, Walgreens is looking to get “creative” about retail theft, though action steps remain to be seen.
