BUSY parents are struggling to find time for exercise – with 71 per cent hunting for micro-workouts they can fit around chores.

Research of 2,000 mums and dads with kids under 18 found 47 per cent think a good time for a micro-workout would be while waiting for food to cook.

And 35 per cent could get some done while waiting for the washing machine to finish its cycle.

Nearly four in 10 (37 per cent) have even used household items to get a quick workout in, lifting bags of sugar or mugs to get some blood pumping.

It also emerged they estimate there are as many as 38 minutes every day when they could be doing something to get fit – like when they’re brushing their teeth or waiting for the kettle to boil.

Following the findings, Matalan has teamed up with exercise legend Mr Motivator to come up with a range of exercises busy parents can complete during their day, to keep them moving.

Coined the ‘Daily Dozen’, the 12 moves include a water bottle bicep curl, laundry basket upright row and a dining chair squat.

The day-glo icon said: “We all have the same 24 hours in a day, it’s just a matter of learning how to use them most effectively.

“It may not sound like much, but even one single minute of activity can make a real difference.

“And the good thing about exercise is, it builds up – you start with one minute, then you find yourself going up to five, and before long you’re picking up some really healthy habits.

“The ‘Daily Dozen’ workouts I’ve come up with are 12 simple exercises that can be completed regularly around the home, to suit almost anybody.”

The study also found parents would also prefer working out at home (40 per cent) than in a bespoke gym or leisure centre (30 per cent).

For 58 per cent of these, it’s because their home is in their ‘comfort zone’, while 48 per cent reckon it would help them fit it in around other tasks around the house.

But 71 per cent are too tired for a full workout, while 48 per cent reckon it’s too cold out, according to the OnePoll.com figures.

Matalan’s spokesperson added: “Parents often prioritise their families over themselves, but even a few minutes of physical activity can recharge the mind and body.

“Incorporating short, manageable workouts into your day is a powerful way to stay healthy.

“Every little effort, from a quick home workout to a brisk stroll, contributes to better health and well-being.”

KEVIN O’CALLAGHAN believes his absence from the Kildare set-up is down to his presence on social media.

The midfielder was a notable omission when Brian Flanagan announced his panel for the 2025 season.

O’Callaghan, 27, has confirmed to SunSport that he was logged out by the man who guided Kildare to an All-Ireland Under-20 title in 2023.

Flanagan’s tenure in the senior hotseat got off to a fine start on Saturday as his side recorded a 15-point win over Fermanagh in NFL Division 3.

But O’Callaghan is unlikely to play under the man who has succeeded Glenn Ryan for a four-year term.

And the Celbridge ace reckons off-the-field matters were behind Flanagan’s decision to cast him aside.

He said: “The only thing that makes sense to me is that my social media is the reason I was dropped.

“It couldn’t have been related to my performances. Maybe he thinks it’s something that would bring negativity to the group.

“I’m not sure but it’s the only reason I can think of.

“It was a shock to me. I was completely caught on the hop by it.

“I’d be the first to hold my hands up if my performances dipped but if anything I think they’ve gone the other way.”

O’Callaghan is categorised as a fitness trainer on Instagram, where his account has over 25,000 followers.

He usually uses the platform to offer online coaching and post healthy food recipes.

The social media activity has previously been described as ‘a side hustle’ by O’Callaghan, who works as head of sales for Fitness Equipment Ireland.

In a player profile for the match programme when Kildare hosted Cavan in last season’s NFL opener, he made ‘a joke that went viral’ with a reference to himself as an ‘influencer’.

O’Callaghan said: “My page was created as a free platform to help people lose weight and help other athletes, especially younger ones, who might not know certain things about the food and gym side of it.

“I’d like to think I’ve used my common sense in how I manage it. I’d never post after a loss or anything like that.

“I know when to keep the head down and not bring any negative attention to myself or the group.”

The 2024 season was a dismal one for Kildare, who were relegated from Division 2 before being dumped out of the Tailteann Cup by Laois at the quarter-final stage.

But O’Callaghan feels he played the best football of his career under Ryan, who stepped down following the five-point loss to the O’Moore men.

He was named Kildare’s Player of the Year for 2023 after starting all 13 competitive games that season as the Lilywhites were pipped to an All-Ireland quarter-final spot by Monaghan.

According to O’Callaghan, Kildare team-mates and the previous management ‘never had any issue’ with his social media endeavours.

He said: “I was Kildare Player of the Year less than 12 months before being dropped.

“In fact, I wasn’t even included in a training panel of 65 players. It’s hard to make sense of it any other way.

“Representing your county is a massive privilege that I’ve never taken lightly.

“I’m extremely proud to have done that over the last few years and there’s a lot of work that goes in to make that happen.

“I was taking painkillers for a knee injury just to get through last season and represent Kildare.

“I went off then and got the knee sorted so I would have been perfect for the coming year.

“I’ve just turned 27 as well so I’m technically coming into my prime.”

Flanagan, whose side will travel to face Sligo on Sunday, had no comment to make when contacted by SunSport.

O’Callaghan added: “All I can do now is put my head down, perform as well as I can with Celbridge and hopefully get back into the county set-up.

“I was a supporter of Kildare before I was ever a player so I’ll go back to being a supporter now and I still wish the very best for the team.

“Obviously I’m disappointed not to be there but I’ll be rooting for the lads anyway.”

AS a child, Tim Campbell was kicked out of one school and almost excluded from another.

But the businessman, 47, who grew up in London’s Forest Gate, went on to win the first series of The Apprentice and now sits at Lord Sugar’s boardroom table as an advisor on the show.

In an exclusive chat with The Sun, he reveals that the actions of one teacher set him on course to become Lord Sugar’s protegee. 

He said: “I was at the risk of being excluded from school. I think if I had that exclusion on my record, my life would have been very, very different.

“This young Irish teacher called Mr. Foley put his neck above the line and said, ‘Tim, I’m going to mentor you in how to navigate your way through this, because I see something in you.’ That for me was a sliding door on a number of different levels.

“He showed me how I could navigate powerful structures in institutions and that stayed with me for a long period of time.”

After becoming the first UK Apprentice winner, in 2005, Tim made a return to the show two years ago – this time on the other side of the boardroom table, standing in for an injured Claude Littner.

Now a permanent fixture by Lord Sugar’s side, along with Karren Brady , the dad-of-two was initially reluctant to step back into the limelight. 

“I hated being on TV and all the media that came with it when I was a contestant on the show,” he said. 

“Once it had ended I’d buried myself in business and run away from that world, so when Lord Sugar rang me and asked me to step in, I really had to think about it. 

“I had to consider the impact on my family, how social media plays a huge role in life now. It wasn’t even a thing when I did the show.

“The only Tiktok we worried about was the watch we had on.

“It’s a totally different world and I had to think about what the ripple effects would be on my family. 

“When I went on the show it was a purely selfish decision and that was a luxury I didn’t have this time round.”

Despite his chequered school career Tim, who is supporting The Gatsby Foundation’s T-Level campaign, was always raring to get into the world of work and land his first pay cheque. 

So, applying for The Apprentice back in 2005 seemed a natural course of action. 

Looking back, he said: “It was 100 per cent an unconventional choice when I decided to go onto The Apprentice. 

“When I went on, I didn’t have to have a business for Lord Sugar to invest in. I was competing against the others for a job with him.

“There was a ready-made business for me to run when I was selected. It was exciting. I couldn’t wait to be on it.”

Despite his initial misgivings on returning to the show, in 2023, he’s proved a huge hit with viewers for his level-headed approach.

But his kids have a concern about return to fame. “They’re worried they’re going to have to Vaseline the door so that my head gets through because I’m on the television,” he jokes.

“I can’t be anything but down to earth in my house.”

While the show is the same in many ways, it’s unrecognisable in others – including the incredibly attractive casts of recent years, many of whom wouldn’t look out of place on Love Island. 

“I don’t think that’s a bad thing,” Tim jokingly reprimands me.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we certainly don’t make decisions on how they look. 

“The reality is that we have incredibly diverse candidates on our show and the very fact that some people think that they’re physically attractive – fantastic, good luck to them. 

“I know that when we’re assessing individuals, we are not waylaid by their appearance or the colour of their suits, or the flicker of their smiles.”

Guiding the next generation

Given that he now spends a large portion of the year helping shape the next generation of business moguls, it’s no surprise that he’s turned his attention to an even younger generation – school kids.

Tim told me he felt unsupported by most of his teachers during his schooling. 

“Not everyone is suited to the sausage machine approach, which it was then,” he said. 

“Paths were relatively straightforward but that didn’t necessarily fit for me.”

Return to old school

One indication of how much he struggled with the school system was when he was “kicked out” of St Bonaventure’s Catholic School, East London.

His bad behaviour wasn’t appreciated by his single mum Una, who wanted to see Tim and his two siblings do well in life.

However, the exile didn’t last long, as he is now back as their Chair of Governors.

“It’s empowering to be on the board of governors at my old school,” he said with a smile. 

“In a way, it’s put a lot of things to rest for me that I had found difficult when I went through school. Plus, it’s a civic duty. 

“Essentially, volunteers are running a five to ten million pound business. They’re responsible for recruiting teachers and for kids’ safety. 

“I hold this position in high regard, because I know the impact it has in supporting the head and his senior team in making sure the next generation of boys like me don’t fall through the cracks or get isolated.

“I don’t think there’s anything more important than investment in the next generation.”

He’s been volunteering as a governor for nearly 14 years.

He’s partnered with The Gatsby Foundation for their Talking Futures campaign, which helps kids and parents recognise alternative options to higher education outside of university, such as T levels and apprenticeships. 

And knowing your options is something he reckons The Apprentice helps young people realise.

“The show gets boxed in as a reality programme, but really I think it’s more akin to a fly on the wall documentary” he said. 

“People are getting to witness how it really works when you want to get an angel investor like Lord Sugar or find private equity. 

“Those are things that aren’t usually caught on camera and it gives a unique insight into how people get an investment.

“I’d like to think young people will watch it and be inspired to try to have their own business.

“We know we have a large section of the audience that is under 30. They can learn good ways to do things and bad ways from the contestants, there’s ample doing both. 

“TV is a great way to get people thinking about what they could do and how.”

As a dad, Tim knows how hard it is as a parent to keep up with how education is evolving, especially with a 16-year-old son who is working out the next steps. 

This isn’t a kumbaya moment. There is actually a relatively selfish motive here.

Thanks to The Gatsby Foundation, he and his son have an option to talk to someone about what his path could be – almost like having an education version of Lord Sugar. 

“If every young person gets to the age of 16 thinking the only options are for them is university, rather than thinking about some really high quality technical education qualifications, like T levels, like apprenticeship, like higher technical qualification then that’s remiss upon society.

“It’s bad business not informing the next generation of what’s available. 

“As a businessman, I want to make sure that these qualifications, which have been created in conjunction with business, are being promoted to the next generation of talent that are going to come and work in our organisation.”

It sounds like something Lord Sugar might want to invest in – making sure his next batch of candidates are up to his high standards.

A TEACHER died after she was left “traumatised” by being stripped and left naked in a police cell, an inquest heard.

Jorja Watt, 27, had been looking forward to starting a new job abroad when she was discovered dead at her friend’s home.

The tragedy came just weeks after she had been arrested on a night out on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Jorja, who had been diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, was “stripped and left naked in a cell”, an inquest heard.

Her mum Marie told the court she had been left “traumatised” and feared it would spell the end of her dream teaching career.

As a result, Jorja’s mental health spiralled and she began to take prescription medication in an attempt to “self-medicate”, Lancs Live reports.

Preston Coroner’s Court heard she was found unresponsive at her friend Charlie’s home on September 1 last year.

Charlie’s mum Voirrey Wilde said: “At around 1 o’clock I woke up to Charlie shouting ‘Jorja’ repeatedly.

“I knew something was wrong. I found her slumped on the sofa. Her lips were blue and she was unresponsive.”

A post mortem showed Jorja had several prescription medications in her system at the time of her death – including heroin substitute methadone.

Her cause of death was listed as multi-medication toxicity with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder listed as a contributory factor.

Recording a verdict of misadventure, Area Coroner Kate Bisset said: “I think it is right to record this is not someone who is taking drugs for a high and chasing a thrill.

“Her mental health was a real battle for her and taking medication was an attempt to win that battle.”

Marie described her daughter as “quietly spoken, intelligent and kind”.

She said that although Jorja was a “free spirit”, she had a nice flat and a job at a local college.

The sentiment was echoed by the coroner, who said: “Jorja was very much a free spirit.

“She obviously had a core of real steel in her to complete a degree over six years and maintain a job while going through these struggles and that shows a real strength of character.”
