BARCELONA could play the final two games of their La Liga season in a THIRD DIVISION stadium.

The club’s billion-pound expansion of their iconic Nou Camp home – which will become a 105,000-seater ground – was set to be completed in February.

But it was recently announced the works on the Catalan colosseum won’t be finished until MAY at the earliest.

Barca have been playing their home matches at the Estadi Lluis Companys but could be forced to play elsewhere if the Rolling Stones seal a return to the venue.

The Catalans are set to welcome bitter rivals Real Madrid and Villarreal to the Nou Camp in their final matches of the season.

But they’ve been handed a potential lifeline by third division side Gimnastic de Tarragona.

The Primera Federacion side have offered the La Liga giants use of their 14,591 capacity Nou Estadi Costa Daurada stadium for the final games of their domestic campaign.

Nastic president Lluis Fabregas told Diari de Tarragona: “Nastic could give up its facilities at the Nou Estadi for this match.”

Barca, however, will be hoping they won’t have to make use of the third tier side’s home.

The club are reportedly on the verge of striking an agreement with the local council to permit 24/7 works to the ground over the coming months.

Barca president Joan Laporta recently moved to quell concerns about the club’s return to the Nou Camp, saying: “[It] will be as soon as possible when possible.”

During an appearance on RAC 1, vice-president Elena Fort said: “[The] return will be before the end of this season.”

Barcelona will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting relegation battlers Alaves.

The nightmare scene took place in Sao Thome das Letras, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. 

Hair-raising video footage – which seems as if it was taken straight from a horror film – was uploaded to social media on 28 December – haunting and baffling viewers.

One user said: “Spider heaven!”

Another user, who appeared to have witnessed the horrific occurrence before, said: “It was in my brother’s backyard in Tiradentes. Always in the late afternoon. I was scared when I first saw it.”

The incident was later picked up by local media on 24 January, catching the attention of biology boffins who tried to explain what happened.

One expert and biologist, Kayron Passos, untangled the situation for local media, giving his explanation for the countless arachnids floating in the air.

He said: “It’s a spider orgy, the females have something called spermatheca, where they store the semen of different males to fertilise the eggs.”

“This way, the female ensures that she will have several different offspring and increase genetic variability,” the scientist added.

Passos also explained that even after fertilising the eggs, female spiders continue to collect semen for later use. 

He said: “This behaviour increases resistance, making these offspring more resistant to diseases.”

Experts have concluded that the spiders were having a spider mating orgy – performing the ritual whilst stuck together on a very large web. 

Arachnologist Ana Lucia Tourinho, who has a PhD in Biological Sciences and works at the National Institute of Amazonian Research, also shared her opinion.

“Spiders generally do not stay together, but some species exhibit this social behaviour of forming colonies. 

“The strategy of staying together in a group increases the food supply for the offspring and juveniles.”

The researcher, who has been studying spiders for more than 27 years, added: “The colony usually forms every year, most of them in the colony are relatives, they are usually generations of mothers and daughters together, but after they mate they will disperse.”

In 2019, residents in the same state of Minas Girais reported seeing the same scary phenomenon of “raining spiders”.

Photos and videos posted to social media showed the haunting ritual in which hundreds of the creepy crawlers dangled in the air.

João Pedro Martinelli Fonseca, who filmed the affair, told a local newspaper that he was “stunned and scared”.

Experts told how this unnerving behaviour was more common during hot and humid weather in the region.

In 2013, another similar incident made international headlines when residents in Santo Antônio da Platina in southern Brazil witnessed the same raining spiders around telephone poles.

LIAM Payne’s last project, the Netflix talent contest Building the Band, will drop this year.

The former One Direction star, who died in October after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is one of the guest judges on the programme which will go out later this year.

Liam wrapped filming on the programme, hosted by Backstreet Boys singer AJ Maclean, just months before he passed away leaving the multi-million pound show in limbo.

An insider said: “The streaming giant spoke with Liam’s family as they didn’t want to progress the project without taking their feelings into consideration.

“The sense they got was that this was a celebration and a positive image of Liam, doing what he did best as a true boyband star.”

The streaming giant confirmed its huge slate for the coming year at a star-studded event in central London.

Previously, a source said: “Netflix will sit down with Liam’s family when the time is right to speak about the series and when it could be released.

“Everyone involved is devastated and their heart goes out to his family.

“There is no rush or pressure to release the series.

“It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death.”

Building the Band, which sees Liam joined by fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, featured in the line-up.

The competition — hosted by Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean — culminated in three live shows that were filmed in the summer at Manchester’s Aviva Studios.

Netflix today promised the programme had: “one big goal: to find the next great music band.”

Although it sounds similar to the X-Factor, which brought Liam together with his 1D bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson in 2010, Building the Band delivers a twist.

All the auditioning singers on the show perform in booths where they’re unable to see one another, so they’re initially forced to connect through music and talent alone.

Tributes to Liam Payne

SHOCKED fans, former co-workers, loved ones and friends flooded social media with sad tributes to Liam Payne after news of his death emerged.

Harry Styles’ mum Anne was among the first from One Direction’s camp to share her reaction, posting a photo of Liam and writing ‘Just a boy…’ alongside a broken heart emoji.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden shared an image of the pair together with the words: “Such an awful tragedy.

“Sending love to his family and all those who loved him.”

X Factor star Olly Murs told fans he was “devastated” and “lost for words”.

He wrote on social media: “Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams so to see his life now end so young hits hard, I’m truly gutted and devastated for his Family and of course his son Bear losing a dad x”.

Liam Gallagher said he was “very sad” and told his followers on X: “Life is precious Kids, you only get to do it once, go easy.”

Former X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary has also expressed his shock and spoke on This Morning.

He said: “I remember him as a 14 year old turning up to audition on The X Factor, and blowing us away singing Sinatra. He just loved to sing.

“He was always a joy, had time for everyone, polite, grateful, and was always humble.”

BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball reacted to the “devastating news” on her show and told fans she hugged her own son Woody tight this morning.

JLS band member Marvin Humes reflected on his memories with the singer, sharing: “I first met Liam in 2008 with the JLS boys whilst auditioning for X Factor..he was 14 years old..

“We instantly clicked and looked at him as a little brother..that year it worked out for us but not for him and then 2 years later he went back to audition and One Direction was born..the rest is history..

“Absolutely heartbroken by the tragic news..Liam you wanted to be a global superstar and you did it bro..just can’t believe that things have ended this way..it’s shocking..my thoughts and prayers are with all your family and friends brother..RIP.”

Niall Horan’s brother Greg shared an emotional tribute to Liam, praising him as a “top young man”.

He added: “You will be forever missed. Liam, words can’t describe how much I want to grab my brother and mind him now while the world shows their memories of you and him and the boys.

“My heart goes out to your family parents and sisters and your son Bear and your 1D brothers.

“10th October we met and we started out that evening as 5 families into one big one 1D family thank you for all the laughs bro watch down on all your family and mind them lots of love kiddo x x x 1D 4 LIFE x x x”

German DJ Anton Zaslavski, otherwise known as Zedd, has taken to X with a devastated statement.

The producer, who worked with Liam on his 2017 hit Get Low, wrote: “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real…absolutely heartbreaking…”

American singer, Charlie Puth, who was friends with Liam and also collaborated with him on a song called Bedroom Floor, has posted a series of Instagram stories dedicated to him.

Alongside photos of the two of them together in their younger days, Charlie wrote: “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me.

“He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone…

“I am so upset right now, may he rest in peace. I am so sorry…”

Irish singer duo Jedward also took to social media, saying: “RIP Liam Payne. Condolences to friends and family.”

In another tweet, they added: “Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear. And all the One direction Family. RIP Liam Payne.”

American media personality Paris Hilton shared: “So upsetting to hear the news of Liam Payne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend.”

ITV weather presenter Alex Beresford shared a news video about Liam’s tragic death on Instagram, adding: “Can’t believe this! RIP Liam.”

Meanwhile Love Island star Molly Marsh penned: “I’m so taken aback, rest in peace.”

James Cordon also paid his own tribute, describing the star as a “loving and kind soul”.

The Gavin and Stacey actor wrote on Instagram: “Talking about Liam in the past tense is utterly heart-breaking.

“I will treasure the moments I got to spend with him. My thoughts are with his family today x.”

Payne previously appeared on Cordon’s The Late Late Show in America.

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirwall – who won X Factor with her bandmates one year after One Direction took part – described him as “the first friend I made in this industry”.

She said: “We fell out of touch as the years went by, but back in 2008 he was the first friend I made in this industry.

“Both of us so young, so ambitious, both hoping we’d ‘make it’. I hope you are at peace now”.

Camila Cabello described his death as a “tragedy” and said he “made an impression” on her when she was a young girl.

Only later are they introduced when style, looks and choreography are brought into play.

Earlier this year, executive producer Cat Lawson described the series as a “brave and bold undertaking”.

He added: “We hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first.

“With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates?”

Fans who were in the audience in Manchester previously took to X to share selfies with Liam taken at filming for the live shows.

One, named Lauren, wrote: “Liam was so sweet.”

Another added: “Meeting Liam  . . . was the best thing ever!!

“He held my hand and gave me his most precious smile.”
