I’m a travel expert – and here’s why you should book flights in the middle of week
A TRAVEL expert has revealed five key ways to save money on trips abroad.
Jason Whelan is a travel insurance and holiday expert who helps people save money.
Aer Lingus is currently having a sale[/caption]He recently revealed some top tips that could help people save money when heading abroad.
Jason said the most popular travel hack is to travel in the middle of the week.
Flight prices tend to go up at weekends because airlines know it’s the most convenient time for people to jet off.
So, opting to fly on Mondays to Thursdays could help you save cash ahead of time.
The second big tip is to book hotels with free cancellation.
Some hotels include a free cancellation policy if you cancel your booking, meaning that you could be left out of pocket if you find a cheaper hotel and decide to book it.
By reserving a room at a hotel with no cancellation fee, you can opt out without it costing you a penny.
Tip number three is to take the self catering option to save on service fees and dining out.
Self catering apartments usually include a kitchen in a home-from-home style accommodation.
Rather than dining out at every meal, it means that you can eat in and do your own shopping to save money.
The fourth tip is fly at anti-social times, when the price of a flight is likely to be lower.
Flying late at night or early in the morning usually means your flight will be cheaper, as there is less demand for seats.
And the final tip is to wait for a flight sale.
Usually taking place at the beginning of the year and the start of summer and winter, airlines often have major sales.
Ryanair and Aer Lingus have both had recent sales that saved jetsetters hundreds.
There were also three more tips for smart travellers, the first of which was to book last minute.
Flights that are about to be unavailable are often reduced so that they will sell, so booking late is another clever option.
The other tip was to make lunch from a hotel breakfast buffet to avoid paying for lunch when you are out and about.
And the last one is to hide or wear extra clothing on the plane to avoid overstuffing your carry-on bag.
Jason said: “Holidays will always remain a top priority for people and when budgets are tight there are some creative ways to cut the cost.
“However, Travel Insurance is not one of them.
“With annual Travel Insurance policies starting at €19.95, there is no reason for anybody travelling abroad to not have a Travel Insurance policy.”
He added: “We urge all holiday makers to purchase a policy as soon as they purchase their trip to ensure cancellation protection.
“The cost of travel insurance doesn’t get any cheaper if you leave it to the last minute, so there’s really no benefit to delaying, in fact you are missing out on essential protection.
“Travel insurance is too important to be an afterthought.”

ASTON VILLA are reportedly ready to launch a £50million bid for Premier League target Mathys Tel.
The Villans are on the brink of selling striker Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr for £65m.
Aston Villa are ready to move for Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel[/caption] Jhon Duran is on the verge of a stunning move to Al-Nassr[/caption]And Unai Emery is already scouring the market for a replacement.
Chelsea’s Joao Felix is thought to be of interest.
But RMC claims Villa have now joined the heated race to sign Bayern Munich forward Tel.
Despite still being 19 years old, he’s still scored 16 times in 83 games for the Germans.
And Tel is now seeking a permanent move away from the Allianz Arena in search of first-team football.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are all thought to be monitoring the situation.
But Villa could jump to the head of the queue by launching a £50m bid for Tel before the weekend.
Emery is keen to add more firepower after losing Duran to Al-Nassr.

He still runs the risk of seeing star man Ollie Watkins go to Arsenal, who have already had a £60m rejected.
News of the Gunners’ bid filtered through just hours before Watkins started in Villa’s 4-2 Champions League win over Celtic.
The striker’s mind may have been elsewhere as he slipped over and missed a penalty in the second half.
But with Duran heading to Saudi Arabia, Villa are determined to keep hold of Watkins if Arsenal return with a second bid.
The Midlands have already signed Levante right-back Andres Garcia and Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen this month.
Villa remain hopeful of completing a loan deal for Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi before deadline day.
While they have recently waved goodbye to Jaden Philogene, Diego Carlos and Emi Buendia.
My baby’s unique name means shopping around Valentine’s is a nightmare – her pram’s always loaded with anything I see
A MUM who gave her baby daughter a very unique name has admitted taking her shopping around Valentine’s Day is a complete nightmare.
She took to TikTok to share her haul, as she said she just can’t resist buying things themed to her little girl’s moniker.
“My daughter’s name is Love, which makes shopping anywhere this time of year extremely damaging to our bank account because anything that has hearts or is pink or says Love is coming home with us!” she laughed.
She then took her daughter to her nearest Target store to see what romantic items they had in store.
“The good thing is I’m not getting a shopping cart,” she said.
“I’m only using the space we have under the stroller, so that should keep my shopping at a limit!”
She began with an ‘I (heart) you’ vase, as well as an adorable heart-shaped rug, some red and pink water bottle charms adorned with hearts, and some mugs with heart-shaped handles.
The mum then picked up some paint your own wooden hearts for her oldest daughter to do, before moving onto the clothing section.
Once there, she was immediately excited by what she found – a fluffy pair of cream PJs with red hearts on them.
“Oh my goodness. Lovey, we have to have this! You’re coming home with me!” she said.
There were even some heart-shaped water teethers that were perfect for her youngest, who is in the middle of teething, as well as a heart garland to go in baby Love’s room.
She showed the pile of bits in the base of the pram as she added: “I did not spend too much, I didn’t go too crazy, because I’m pretty sure we’re gonna be back again before Valentine’s Day!”
She captioned the video: “I’m scared for how much I would’ve got if I had used a cart!”
And in the comments section, lots of parents admitted they’d done the same with items themed around their kids’ names.
“My daughter’s name is Stormi so we get all cloud things!” one wrote.
“My daughter’s name is Story and she loves books – she has a huge book shelf in her room filled with them,” another added.

“Additionally, we will see a rise of nature-inspired names, such as River, Lily, and Ivy. And a trend in recent years that we also expect to continue, is the rise of classical names, for example, Margot, Dorothy, August.”
