Amin Adam rejects Mahama’s claims of economic mismanagement

Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has refuted President John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that the previous administration criminally mismanaged Ghana’s economy.

Addressing the matter on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Dr. Amin Adam dismissed the allegations, insisting that the economy was in a strong position before it was handed over.

“The new government, right from the beginning, tried to paint a certain picture of the economy they inherited. I think that they just wanted to give excuses by saying that the economy was bad, it was criminally mismanaged, the economy was in crisis,” he stated.

He argued that such claims were a deliberate attempt to justify the new administration’s decisions, including potentially unpopular policies.

“So that the goodwill that they have, they can be able to push certain policies no matter how bitter those policies are. And people will understand because they inherited a bad situation, so let’s bear with them. So that was the narrative they created,” he added.

Dr. Amin Adam insisted that the evidence contradicts these claims. “Everything shows that the economy we handed over to them was a strong economy,” he maintained, pushing back against assertions that the previous government left the country in crisis.
