The massive world of Solo Leveling comprises a lot of different aspects and elements that add to the narrative of the series. One such aspect is the type of Hunters who are constantly in a battle against the monsters and magic beasts inside the different dungeons.

Ideally, there are six types of hunters in the world of Solo Leveling, but considering the fact that Sung Jinwoo is in a class of his own, he has evolved into a different type called the Necromancer. Thus, there are a total of 7 types of hunters in Solo Leveling, and they all have different functions and powers that help them deal with the threat.
1. Fighter
The first and probably the most important type of hunter in Solo Leveling is definitely the fighter type who are the first line of defense and offense in a raid. They have special fighting skills that allow them to deal with almost every kind of monster that they can find inside a dungeon.
They mostly take part in close-range combat and can use a variety of weapons against their enemies. They have incredible speed and unprecedented strength and also, some kind of special ability that only adds more substance to their skills as a fighter.

Most of the hunters in the Solo Leveling world belong to the fighter class. Characters like Cha Hae-In, Baek Yoonho, Goto Ryuji, Liu Zhigang, etc., are all fighter-type hunters in Solo Leveling.
2. Mages
As the name suggests, Mages are a special type of hunter who can use magical skills to battle against the monsters and magic beasts inside a dungeon in Solo Leveling. There are different sub-types of Mages who specialize in barrier magic, summoning magic, sorcery attacks, etc.

They usually attack from a long distance and cast spells that keep them away from the monster’s grasp. They can use elements, summon warriors, store special items like weapons, create barriers, etc. However, the only problem with them is that they do not have the skills to fight in close combat.
3. Assassins
Assassins are swift hunters who specialize in killing in the most proficient way. They are incredibly fast and generally carry a small weapon in order to keep their speed and hide their presence. They are one of the most dangerous types of hunters.

There special skill is stealth, which helps them blend with the surroundings and then attack when the time is right. They are extremely lethal and while they lack in the defense category, they more than make up for it by combining magic with their speed.
An assassin-type hunter is the rarest kind of hunter, and thus, there are very few of them. As of now, there are only two assassin-type hunters known in the Solo Leveling story. The first one was Kang Taeshik, who was killed by Sung Jinwoo, and the second is Ippei Izawa, the Japanese S-Rank hunter.
4. Tankers
Tankers are a special type of hunters who can use defense and are thus one of the most important types of hunters during a raid as they are responsible for the defense of the entire team. They are recognized by special shields and armor that they wear in order to enhance their defensive skills.

Tankers have a special ability called Taunt that forces their opponents to attack them without a plan of action, giving the fighters and assassins an opportunity to attack. They also have a special mana shield that creates a magic shield around them, protecting them from danger.
Until now, quite a few tankers have made their presence known in the Solo Leveling anime series. These include Kim Chul, Thomas Andre, Ma Dongwook, Hwang Dongsuk, Yoo Jinhoo, etc.
5. Ranger
As of now, the Rangers are the only type of hunters that have the least number of appearances in Solo Leveling. They also specialize in attacking from a safe distance, but instead of magic, they use proper weapons, majorly bow and arrow. This is why most of the Rangers are archers.

They are positioned at a safe distance from the other hunters in order to cover their blind spots and are given the tasks to deal with any hidden enemies that can attack suddenly. But this also means that they cannot fight in close range.
The only ranger-type hunter in Solo Leveling seen until now is Lim Tae-Gyu, the Korean S-Rank Hunter and the Guild Master of the Fiend Guild. Just like Assassins, they are also a rarity in the Solo Leveling universe.
6. Healer
Healers are a special type of hunters who can use healing magic to save and help the other fighting hunters during their battle. They are probably the most important kind of hunters in Solo Leveling on a raid, and every team is required to take at least one healer along with them in a dungeon.

Although it generally depends on the class, healers can heal almost every kind of injury, remove poison, or regenerate severed arms and limbs. The only problem with them is that they generally do not have any kind of fighting or defensive abilities.
The Solo Leveling universe has seen quite a lot of healers like Lee Joohee, Akari Shimizu, Min Byung-Gyu, Jung Yerim, etc. Out of all these, Min Byung-Gyu is the only S-Rank healer in the story.
7. Necromancer
Necromancer is a special type introduced in Solo Leveling, which is an unofficial category. The Necromancer has the power to raise the dead, use them as their soldiers, and create an army, making them probably the strongest type of hunters.

The dead are converted into shadow soldiers who then reside inside the shadow of the necromancer and can pop out whenever they face danger. Necromancy is the strongest ability in Solo Leveling, and the sheer number of soldiers adds more strength to their ability as a hunter.
As of now, the only Necromancer in Solo Leveling is Sung Jinwoo, the protagonist of the series. Aside from him, his son is also a Necromancer, but he only unlocks his skills in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
Solo Leveling is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
