Alan Reynolds wary of threat posed by St Patrick’s Athletic but believes Bohemians ‘have decent firepower ourselves’

ALAN REYNOLDS reckons Bohemians’ defeat to Drogheda United saw the return of PTSD for some of his players.

But he hopes the win over Waterford has lifted their Blues.

Bohs opened their season with a win over Shamrock Rovers but losses to Derry City, Cork City and Drogs have put them on the back foot.

The home defeat by Drogheda raised question marks about the team’s direction as they passed the ball around with no real intent, a throwback to 2024 when they came eighth.

Rennie sighed: “It was four games in and it was like end-of-the-world stuff.

“Drogheda just reminded us of last season whereas we’re trying to draw a line under 2024 but I think the players who were here carry that.

“Since I’ve been here, any time we’ve played Rovers, the one after has been difficult.

“And that says a lot about us as a group, that we can get ourselves up and firing against Rovers. I would have had that at other clubs as well.

“To go and play in the Aviva, in the first one, everyone’s on a high and it wouldn’t be long until we were taken down a peg or two.

“Obviously we were disappointed to lose three, narrow defeats.

“Going to Waterford we were better set up and we’re trying to build on that but it’s been mixed.

“If we keep working as hard as we are it will turn in our favour.

“If you lose your job, are sacked or whatever, it’s that you can look at it and be accountable and say, ‘I’ve done my work here’.

“If it doesn’t work for another reason, it’s not going to fall because you’re not working hard enough.”

Rennie knows Bohs will have their work cut out against St Pat’s at Richmond Park tomorrow.

He said: “They just want to have a go. They have serious talent in the top end of the pitch.

“That’s the way Stephen Kenny wants to play.

“You could see with Ireland, he didn’t really change but I know where we can cause them problems.

“You need to be organised at both ends. We have decent firepower ourselves.”
