“Nobody wanted it”: Barbara Corcoran Hit the Jackpot With a $50K Shark Tank Deal That Made Her Almost Half a Billion Dollars

Shark Tank, along with its exciting pitches and fantastic judges, has long captured the interest of viewers. Whether it be an entrepreneur or just a college-going student, the show provides a lot of learning opportunities for everyone. Fans have selected their favorites from Mark Cuban to Kevin O’Leary, but when it comes to making successful decisions on the show, Barbara Corcoran is not far behind.

Many call her out for being stingy and super selective with her investments. But if someone looks at the companies she has invested in, they’ll definitely know why she deserves a seat on the show.

One such investment of hers was The Comfy, which brought her great revenue and established her as a smart investor.

Barbara Corcoran’s one of the most successful Shark Tank deals

Apart from establishing The Corcoran Group, Barbara Corcoran is also known for her sharp business tactics and knowledge on Shark Tank. While she initially almost lost the job to someone else, she made sure to let the network know what they would have missed if they had hired someone else. This dedication of hers was what won them over, and she officially got on board with the show.

Throughout the years, she has made some successful deals on the show. But for others, she has been trolled as well—the main reason being that she only invests in products she truly believes in. The best example of this would be a deal she made in 2017, which could easily be one of her most sought-after investments on the show.

This was a company called The Comfy, which made a giant wearable blanket that quite literally blew away the judges. She shared in an interview via The Daniel Mac Show podcast that The Comfy has made her more revenue than any other investment she has done on the show. She added that the company made “$468 million in three years” and that “nobody wanted it… I never anticipated.”

She asserted that the deal almost slipped through her hands, but believing in the product was the right decision on her part. The Comfy, started by brothers Brian and Michael Speciale, entered Shark Tank in its ninth season and asked for $50,000 for a 20% stake in their company. Corcoran made the decision to invest, and just five weeks after the show, the brand hit $1 million in sales. Less than a year later, sales had soared to $15 million.

While the venture capitalist has invested in several deals, The Comfy can easily be considered one of her most sought-after and successful deals on the show.

Barbara Corcoran may have a million-dollar empire behind her but when it comes to travel she prefers spending in a smart way. She owns multiple luxurious properties across several countries and also travels between them. But when it comes to paying for a first-class ticket, even though she can afford them she tries to save up.

She detailed just the same during an interview with The Jamie Kern Lima Show as reported by Money Control and explained her reasoning. She said:

The way I figure it is, a coach [economy] ticket [costs] about 25 percent of a first-class ticket. I get the free miles and I can give them away. I have everybody in my family flying on my free miles.

For her, knowing that her miles can help someone else travel makes the decision worthwhile. She also ensures that her homes are always occupied by offering trips to friends and family.
