Tensions arose during the vetting of Deputy Attorney General and Justice Minister-designate, Justice Srem-Sai, following a disagreement between the Chairman of the Appointments Committee and Ranking Member Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The session took an unexpected turn when Afenyo-Markin asked the nominee to demonstrate a traditional dance, arguing that cultural elements were just as important as legal scrutiny.
The Chairman dismissed the request as inappropriate, a decision Afenyo-Markin strongly opposed.
He accused the Chairman of being “whimsical and capricious” in his handling of the proceedings.
When asked to withdraw his remarks, he refused, stating, “Chairman, I won’t withdraw. You rudely overruled me.”
