Luka Doncic played his first game against the Dallas Mavericks since being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and was able to take the victory 107-99. After the game, Doncic and Kyrie Irving embraced each other with their special handshake and ended it with a hug.
Doncic and Irving were one of the most dynamic backcourts in the league and it helped them get to the NBA Finals last year against the Boston Celtics. There were hopes that they could try and get back to the Finals after adding some more depth, but then the Mavericks surprisingly traded Doncic before the deadline, shocking the NBA world.
After the game, Doncic shared some words about Irving.
“Ky is my hermano,” Doncic said via Mavericks reporter Grant Afseth. “We go way beyond basketball. It was good to see those guys. We went to wars together, and it was really fun to see them all.”
It seems like the players have gotten over the trade, but fans are still trying to process how the Mavericks would trade their franchise player just like that. Nonetheless, Doncic seems to be fitting in well with the Lakers now, and he finished the game with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists.
The Lakers have now gotten another impressive win after being the Denver Nuggets during the weekend, and they look like a team that could be hard to stop when the playoffs arrive.
As for the Mavericks, they’re still trying to stay afloat as some of their key players are hurt, one which includes Anthony Davis. Daniel Gafford and Derek Lively II are still sidelined as well, and the hope is that all of them can get on the floor sometime before the playoffs so they can build chemistry. Right now, they’re just going to have to do their best to stay in the mix.
