“There will be no in between”: ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ Beat ‘Solo Leveling’ in Its Own Game

Popular manhwa series have taken center stage with the live-action and anime adaptations of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint coming up. Not just ORV, we already have the ongoing Solo Leveling anime and the upcoming ‘The Beginning After the End’ anime. Every time a new series gets popular or catches the public eye, a flurry of competitive analysis begins to spring up.

And, that’s exactly what’s happening in the manhwa sphere, as everything gets compared to Solo Leveling. Even though Solo Leveling sits at the top of the manhwa world with its massive popularity, the others are catching up soon enough. Interestingly, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is even a step ahead, although it’s a risky step.

Solo Leveling was the introduction to the world of manhwa for many fans. From mainstream popularity to the anime adaptation, it’s forging a path for its successors. Even though Solo Leveling has gotten preferential treatment so far, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was the first one to get the live-action adaptation.

The live-action was first announced in 2019, followed by the casting reveal in 2023. After all the anticipation, the trailer of the live-action adaptation, titled The Prophet: Omniscient Reader, was recently released. The visuals are getting praised, but the same can’t be said about the other aspects of the story. Some elements from the manhwa are missing in the live-action trailer.

For instance, even though we see the beginning of Dokja’s new adventure, the Dokkaebi are nowhere in sight. The characters were also seen using guns instead of swords. Although, on the bright side, the trailer was barely 30-seconds-long and the visuals look promising as far as the quality goes. While there’s still something to look forward to with ORV live-action, the same can’t be said about Solo Leveling

Fans are on the fence with the Solo Leveling live-action announcement

For quite some time, there were rumors about a potential Solo Leveling live-action. As soon as it was confirmed that it’s currently in production, fans were far from happy and expressed their disappointment on X.

Considering how the setting of Solo Leveling is fantasy, a good live-action adaptation will skyrocket the budget due to the visual effects. The dungeons and everything that appears inside them will need heavy use of CG, something that can make or break the live-action, depending on the quality. Not just the dungeons, but Sung Jinwoo’s shadow soldiers present a similar risk.

The risks outweigh any other possibilities with the upcoming live-action for now. This makes the fans’ concerns extremely valid and understandable. On the other hand, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint live-action has both good and bad aspects so far, it’ll be interesting to see how the real deal unfolds.

The Prophet: Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint will be released in July 2025. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint can be read on Webtoon, and Solo Leveling can be read on Tapas.
