TESCO is experiencing a shortage of its own-brand tinned beans – with various kinds affected including butter, borlotti, black and chickpeas.
The supply issue has been a problem for most of March, with many shoppers taking to social media to enquire where they are.

One said on X: “What’s happening to your range of own brand tinned beans. Nothing is in stock and for the last few weeks?”
A second added: “Why is no one talking about the fact there is a bean shortage in @Tesco ??? I want ma beans.”
A third enquired: “How come your Lisburn store doesn’t have any tinned beans? Like kidney or black etc??”
And a fourth asked: “I have seen empty shelves for tinned chick peas, black beans and cannellini beans in two different stores in the last week.
“Is there a problem or is this just a coincidence?”
Meanwhile another shopper said: “The Tilbury Calcutta Road shop is not being restocked, four days now, no chickpeas no butter beans no kidney beans.”
Beans of this kind are usually mixed into stews, casseroles and salads.
Shoppers may alternatively be able to buy other brands of beans in Tesco, although they typically cost more.
It’s understood the problem is temporary and affects a small number of Tesco’s own-brand bean lines, but the retailer didn’t say what was causing the problem.
Its own-brand baked beans in tomato sauce are unaffected.
Tesco said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
SUPERMARKETS HIT BY SHORTAGES
Last month supermarket shoppers faced a shortage of bananas because storms stopped cargo ships heading for Britain.
Empty shelves were spotted in Tesco and M&S, with grocery sources telling The Sun it was a national issue.
Meanwhile in December Tesco was hit by a shortage of grapes due to lower harvest yields in Spain.
Shoppers headed online to grumble about the missing kitchen staple.
One said: “Tesco why aren’t grapes available at your Melton store?
“Haven’t been able to get any on my deliveries for weeks!”
Another said: “I haven’t been able to order grapes online for weeks, is there a reason?”
In November, Morrisons was hit by food shortages following a widespread ransomware attack.
The software issue led to the supermarket suffering from a lack of fresh stock including fruit and veg.
