Man in court charged with murder of popular scrapyard boss found dead at home

A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of a popular scrapyard boss, who was described as a “gem of a boy” by devastated friends.

William Sharp is accused of murdering James ‘Jim’ Jarvis, 55, who was found dead at his home in Glasgow‘s Possilpark last Wednesday.

Officers swooped on the two-storey semi-detached house on Monar Street around 9:20 a.m. where Mr. Jarvis’s body was discovered.

The property was cordoned off, along with a nearby street about a quarter of a mile away, where a black Volkswagen Golf owned by Jim was found earlier that morning on Auckland Street.

Sharp, of Glasgow, appeared for the first time in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, March 10.

In addition to the murder charge, the 38-year-old faces charges of assault with intent to injure, theft, theft of a vehicle, and five road traffic offences, including driving without insurance and a valid license.

He made no plea to the nine charges and was remanded in custody for further examination.

Sharp is scheduled to appear again within eight days.

A shocked neighbour spoke to the Scottish Sun, describing Jim as a hardworking man who volunteered for a drug outreach program that helped addicts.

The neighbour said: “It’s a huge shock. Jim was a nice guy.

“He could be a bit standoffish at first, but warmed up once you got to know him. Jim did a lot of work counseling addicts. He was very committed and hardworking.”

Meanwhile, a pal paid tribute to the deceased, who is believed to have lived alone.

Pat Clark, 75, told The Scottish Sun: “Jim was a gem of a boy.

“He left the scrapyard around three years ago. I heard he had been headhunted for a job at another place nearby.

A large police presence was seen in the area, with both streets cordoned off with white and blue police tape.

Forensic officers have been at the property, scouring the area while police stood guard at the gate.

Numerous police vehicles were parked outside the house and along the street, blocking public access.

“He looked so well when I last saw him 18 months ago. Jim always had a smile on his face.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of James Jarvis in Glasgow.

“At around 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, officers attended an address on Monar Street and found the body of the 55-year-old.

“The 38-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, March 10, 2025.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
