Wonder Madilo, a leading member of the NDC Communications Team, has accused the former Finance Minister of overseeing one of the worst periods of economic mismanagement in Ghana’s history.
Speaking on GHOne TV, he criticized the government’s handling of key financial institutions and infrastructure projects, suggesting that reckless leadership has plunged the country into an economic crisis.
“For instance, if you take an institution like ECG, ECG is running into debt. ECG has never been in debt to the tune of that figure before. ECG today is in debt,” he said.
He also pointed to the financial struggles of another key state institution, questioning how its debt levels had reached an unprecedented high.
“If you see these things, you are worried. Bank of Ghana declared losses just in one year last year. An institution we have always known to at least, if we make profit at all, be stable. But to run us to that level, it was worrying,” he stated.
Madilo also raised concerns about government contracts, alleging that significant amounts of money had been committed to projects without corresponding work being done.
He referenced the much-publicized hospital infrastructure initiative, criticizing the government for failing to deliver on its promises.
“They don’t even feel ashamed about it. They said they have completed four. You promised 111, and four have been completed. We need how much now to complete them?” he questioned.
According to Madilo, the accumulation of these financial missteps has fueled public frustration and eroded any sympathy for the former minister.
“It looks as though there was some level of recklessness we have never seen before in the management of the economy,” he said.
