WETHERSPOONS fans will be saying “cheers” to St Patrick’s Day as the chain is set to slash the price of pints to celebrate the occasion.
The pub giant is putting together plans to mark the cultural holiday on March 17.

The price of a pint of Guinness is set to drop from £3.60 to £3.15 in over 670 pubs.
In Wetherspoon‘s Scottish pubs, which do not offer the Monday Club prices, a pint of Guinness will be available from £2.99 to mark St Patrick’s Day.
As St Patrick’s Day aligns with the pubs’ Monday Club promotion, a variety of other drink prices will also be reduced on Monday, March 17.
Highlights include a pint of Ruddles or Worthington’s for just £1.49, a pint of Carling for £2.49, and a single measure of selected spirits (including a mixer) for £1.99.
Additionally, two cocktail pitchers can be enjoyed for £14.25, while a pint of Strongbow or Abbot Ale will cost £2.39 each.
Why do we celebrate St Patrick’s Day?
ST Patrick’s Day is the annual celebration of the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.
According to folklore, Saint Patrick was kidnapped from the UK and brought over to Ireland in the fifth century when he was 16 years old.
He is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland and according to legend, he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of the shamrock.
The day is celebrated all over the world because of the mass emigration of the Irish people throughout the centuries.
Between 1845 and 1854 two million people were forced to leave Ireland due to the potato famine.
They travelled to the United States, the UK, and Canada where the national holiday’s celebrations have continued.
Meanwhile, patrons can continue to enjoy a selection of exclusive international beers at the chain’s pubs.
Since March 5, Wetherspoons has been hosting its annual Spring Beer Festival.
Punters can choose from a range of 30 real ales from countries across the globe.
The Wallaby, from Australia, is on tap, while customers can buy Estuary Session Ales, a Canadian tipple.
There’s also a chocolate porter from Italy and “Hey Pal” from the USA.
A pint costs £1.69 at selected pubs, but the vast majority will charge £1.99 per pint.
The Spring Beer Festival will end on March 16.
How to save money at Wetherspoons
FREE refills – Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day.
Check a map – Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other.
So if you’re planning a pint at a Spoons, it’s worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you’re settling in at the cheapest.
Choose your day – Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights.
For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual.
Pick-up vouchers – Students can often pick up voucher books in their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled.
Get appy – The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table – but you don’t need to be in the pub to use it.
Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.
Check the date – Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.
It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.
As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival.
WETHERSPOONS HIKES PRICES
The Sun exclusively revealed in January Spoons had upped the price of a host of popular drinks and menu items across its pubs.
The chain hiked prices on drinks by 15p while meal deals were bumped up by 30p.
The price rises saw the cost of a Guinness at the London and South Western branch in south west London go from £4.66 to £4.81.
Meanwhile, the price of a Strongbow increased from £3.24 to £3.39.
The average price of a meal deal at Spoons without an alcoholic drink was £4.99 and with a drink was £6.52 before the change.
But the 30p rise means they now cost £5.29 and £6.82, respectively.
Spoons said a number of drinks had not gone up in price, including all draught lagers such as Budweiser, Carling and Coors.
Boss Tim Martin said: “Wetherspoon has always tried to remain as competitive as possible.
“We hope that our prices will still be reasonable in spite of these increases.”
