Ever wondered what it would be like to step into the pixelated world of Minecraft for real? Well, grab your pickaxes and brace yourself because Jason Momoa’s A Minecraft Movie is on its way to turn the extremely popular video game into a big-screen adventure. As a group of misfits gets thrown into the beloved cubic world, they must put their best foot forward to survive.
With a reported budget of over a hundred million dollars, A Minecraft Movie just might have the potential it needs to bring in big bucks at the box office. However, will it be able to make a place for itself among the big names like Rampage and Sonic? The predicted opening weekend collection sure suggests so!

A Minecraft Movie looks forward to finding the gold at the box office

The box office has been looking a little dull lately, but worry not, Warner Bros.’ next animated adventure just might save the day. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, A Minecraft Movie will hit the theaters not long from now, and with a unique concept to accompany it, it might be exactly what the film industry needs right now.
According to Deadline‘s predictions, the film is on track to make around $140 million worldwide on its opening weekend. That’s one hell of an interesting number if you ask us. Moreover, Variety predicts a domestic opening weekend worth $70-80 million. The reported budget sits at a comfortable $150 million.
Needless to say, it has a good chance of doing real wonders at the box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing video game movies of all time.
With a reported $140 million in the bank in its opening weekend, it just might breeze through the ranks and leave films like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Dwayne Johnson‘s Rampage in the dust.
Rampage‘s opening weekend ended with $35.7 million (domestic), while the blue hedgehog grossed over $60 million. The films ended their runs with $427 million and $490 million, respectively. Does A Minecraft Movie have what it takes to be the next cool kid on the block?
A Minecraft Movie was life-changing for Jason Momoa

Known for playing tough, larger-than-life characters like Khal Drogo and Aquaman, Momoa never knew that working on a comedy would turn his life upside down in the best way possible.
In an interview with RTÉ Entertainment, the actor admitted that while he knew what he was signing up for, he never really thought of the effect it would have on him.
Calling it “life-changing,” Momoa revealed that he was really excited to go to work every day thanks to all the laughter around him. He said,
I didn’t expect it to be almost life-changing for me. I’ve never done a comedy. What I felt like every day going to work, excitement, the amount of laughter I had…It was just something I’ve never experienced – where I loved the job and then you love watching the movie. I’m very excited for people to see it.
He added that “every day was beautiful” on the set where he “laughed so much.” As it turns out, he is “kind of hooked, addicted to comedy”! Only time will tell how the masses react to the film, though.
A Minecraft Movie will be released in theaters on April 04.
