‘The Beginning After the End’ Has Already Met Its End with a Run Worse Than Junji Ito’s ‘Uzumaki’

The Beginning After the End is one of the best-written Western fantasy novels. It has a massive fan base across the world. The exceptional character development and incredible world-building would capture the attention of the fans and pull them in.

An anime adaptation would have helped it shine further by expanding its fanbase and would have had the potential to be one of te best isekai and fantasy novels, on par with the likes of Solo Leveling.

But contrary to the hopes and wishes of all the fans and the anime enthusiasts who wished to watch the brilliant series being adapted, it turns out that the anime is barely a collection of images with transitions.

Studio A Cat turned TBATE into a PowerPoint presentation

Junji Ito’s Uzumaki was a similar case of a brilliant manga with a disappointing anime adaptation, but it still retained some hope and had the fans paying attention to it for at least four episodes before judging it.

But in the very first episode of the legendary series, The Beginning After the End revealed that it is almost irredeemable. The first episode (called a pilot in general parlance) has the best animation quality and effects to gravitate the viewers toward it.

according to leaks episode 2 might be even worse 💀💀

However, the collection of images with a voice-over and no animation makes the anime feel like a massive joke. It feels like it is an elaborate April Fools’ joke. The first impression is often the best impression, and that is true for anime viewers as well.

The viewers waited and waited for the seemingly still pictures to transition into a full-fledged animation. But it turned out that the frames were terribly insufficient, and it felt like someone was scrolling through a frame every second.

Even worse is the narrative voice of the main character which continues on when the images are still, when it could instead have been short cuts of animations. Overall, the black and white Uzumaki had better animation (or any animation) and quality than the highly anticipated The Beginning After the End series.

The adaptation was doomed from the beginning

The sheer level of disappointment is amplified by the fact that creator TurtleMe had full knowledge of the project’s quality. TurtleMe even hyped the series, and it is shocking that he doesn’t know the minimum quality of animation that is required for an anime.

Even the subpar anime is far above the quality that TBATE showcased in Episode 1. Considering that it was the first episode, we can expect that things will only go downhill (which seems unimaginable).

I thought the animation would be like a generic isekai animation. I was wrong, it is worse

In TBATE’s case, Studio A-Cat’s history of subpar animation should have been a warning sign for TurtleMe and for the fans who had massive expectations from the series. Uzumaki seemed to be a much better series, considering TBATE’s quality

Although it does happen that a studio that is not very famous pulls off a great adaptation, that is not a usual case scenario. The studio’s previous works have been riddled with quality issues, and yet, somehow, this adaptation managed to be even worse than expected.

This is a massive insult to both the fans and the work itself. Instead of bringing the world of Arthur Leywin to life, it delivered a soulless, barely animated mess.

The Beginning After the End (TBATE) is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
